I am in the process of purchasing a yearling whose sire is Dutch and dam is Oldenburg. The sire is AWS approved, but not Dutch or Oldenburg. Because of pedigree, the filly may be registered RPSI. With the inspections coming up very quickly, I need some advice from a breeder standpoint. With the possibility in the future of her becoming a broodmare, would you see it better to have her registered RPSI over AWS? Can you tell me some advantages/disadvantages to either or both? I appreciate your help. This is my first filly! I've always had geldings :)

Is she eligible for a Dutch Certificate of pedigree? That is the way I would go, if possible.

Is the filly registered already or is this to be her "birth" registry for life? Has dna been provided to verify her ancestry accurately before you proceed with the purchase?

If you ever want to breed her I don't think you would want a certificate of pedgree. With a COP I don't think she'd be eligible for any registry's mare book. I could be wrong of course!

RPSI will issue registration papers for a foal sired by a stallion that is only approved by AWS? Are you sure they didn't mean a Certificate of Pedigree instead of registration papers?

If the sire is registered Dutch, and the mare is registetered Oldenburg, she may be eligible for Dutch Register B. Dutch Certificate of Pedigree is for those horses that are crosses of Dutch and QH, or any non warmblood breed.

A Dutch Register B filly can be bred to produce Dutch registered foals.

If the COP is enough to document both Mare and Sire lines, I believe she can be approved GOV.

Mares with only a COP are placed in Pre-Mare Book II. It's a start - their foals would get registration papers and be eligible to compete for Oldenburg awards.

With Register B for Dutch and an unapproved sire, I would expect that the ONLY possibilities for the future are with the Dutch, and ONLY with sires approved Dutch. You'd otherwise be generating a string of horses by an unapproved sire. I don't think any other registry would take the mare above Pre-Marebook level with an unapproved sire in there.

Thanks for the replies. At this point the mare and filly will be going to an RPSI inspection for the mare to be approved and her filly to be registered. They basically have a pedigree requirement, DNA verification requirement, and inspection of mare and foal requirement. All of which will be fulfilled to have the filly registered RPSI.

For those that are interested in learning more about registry and its requirements, they do have a pretty informative website: http://www.rhpsi.com/default.asp, and the folks in their office are very helpful as well. I sent them both reg papers of sire and dam, and they told me exactly what I needed to do to get the filly registered.

Again, thanks for the responses, and wish us luck with the inspection :)

You mentioned that the stallion is approved AWS. Is he also in RPSI Book I or Book II?

No he's not. He's only approved AWS and IRC.
