I really wanted to go this year, but didn't work out. Would love to hear how everyone did.

Bump. Yes, does anyone know how the breed and performance show went and where I can find the results??

Both seemed to go well. There were no major horse or human injuries that I heard of. The breed show seemed smaller than in past years - instead of having 2 rings running for the breed show, there was only one. Perhaps the cost of gas dissuaded some people from coming.
I was just in the performance show, and it seemed to run well.
Results should be posted soon at www.dressageatlexington.com

Interesting way to note it went well: There were no major horse or human injuries that I heard of.Do you expect injuries at every show?

Kristi Wysocki judged the fillies/mares and Lilo Fore judged the colts/geldings/stallions.
It was a fun day! :)

Thanks, Darlyn! Windsor VT did OK this year, but was in an awkward stage as a yearling, so only pinned 3rd whereas he went Reserve Grand last year! All in all, though, our VT horses did pretty well!
It was the first time any of these students had handled at a breed show, and the first time off the farm for the homebred youngsters. It was a great experience for all, and I'm so proud of them! The girls showed our Lingh colt to the high score of the day (85.6%)- pretty impressive for novice handlers!
I'm not sure if entries were down (there was only one ring last year too) - but there were about 70 entrants I think? The Sinatra Song colt that went Grand was lovely, super elastic and expressive at the trot - I think this is the second one to go Grand Champion this year (in addition to Angela's Soldja Boy)?
We will probably be at Devon, though I'm not sure yet what we'll bring. We still have a Sinatra Song to unveil at Raleigh... ;)
A photo of the happy (but very tired) group!

No, but to me, a good show is one in which everyone stays safe. I have been to more than one breed show where there have been some mishaps.

Super job of handling against the pros. Congratulations to all!

Dynamic MF, By Don Principe/Rubinstein, won his 2 yr old colt/gelding class. Dante's Deam MF, by Don Principe/Falconet was second in the 3 yr old Materiale.
Don Principe debuted at Intermediare-2 on Friday, placing second with a score of 66.82%. third in the I-1 freestyle with a score of 69.5%, and won the Intermediare-1 Challenge on Sunday with a whopping 70.250%!!
The progressive barn party was a big hit on Friday evening. Margaritas started the evening with the fashion show and dog show. Marydell Farm hosted, along with Aaron Maye of Pepperwood Farm, the appetizers including a pig roast. Sorry for not remebering the other participants, but there were at least two Mexican barns, and two dessert barns. From what I heard over the weekend, it seems like this was a good idea and probably will be repeated next year.
Debbie and Martie did a fantastic job running the show. Thanks to all those wonderful volunteers and sponsors as well!!

Does anyone know who owns the Sinatra Song colt that was Grand Champion? Dam line? It is so hard for the weanlings to make it into the Grand Champ ring, they get tired.
Congrats!

That is always such a nice show! I am sorry I missed it. And especially the Margarita & barn party! My neice loved the dog show last year. Her photo from the dog show, by Bob Tarr, was on the Mast Head of the Dressage at Lexington website! She would have loved to have come again!
Congrats to everyone and especially to VT's program and to Maryanna! You should be so proud as breeders!
Wow Maryanna, I heard about Don Principe's spectacular test! That is awesome! He is just amazing!
I also wanted to say Congrats to Bettie and Steve Carroll, from North Carolina, who have a wonderful Hanoverian breeding program. I saw that they had some Blues and Tricolors in The Breed Show.
The Carrolls also bred our young 5 yo stallion, EDISON, who was super with scores at 68, 69 and 71 % , 1st and 2- 2nds in his First Level Tests! Wish I could have been there. He is coming along great and loves to show!
Good job to all, looking forward to next year!:)

Oh, I wanted to add, the Carroll's also bred the Domingo mare, Dom Perignon, who is the dam to VT Windsor mentioned above.
We have had 2 really nice Hanoverian foals from a a mare they bred out of Dom Perignon by Wolkenstein II !
I just think the Carrolls are doing a super job. Not only do they have horses doing well in hand, they do well in the show ring too!:)

Volte VT, do you happen to have any pics of the Lingh colt?
And congratulations everyone :).

Jul. 15, 2008, 07:41 AM
Yes, I just put photos of Landmark VT (by Lingh) up on his webpage: http://www.equine.vt.edu/foals/landmark.html
Thanks everyone for the kudos. It's awesome for our students to learn about equine science and the sporthorse industry with such high-quality horses. We are very fortunate to have such generous support from the best owners and breeders in the industry, including Angela, the Carrolls and Maryanna (can't wait to see the Don Principe foal out of our Contucci/Banter mare next year!) :).
Angela - the gorgeous Sinatra Song colt is owned by Meredith McGrath and was shown by herself and her young daughter. Meredith is a local SWVADA member and I know the mare (Wait For Me) pretty well. She is by Weltstern and out of a Churchill [Cor de la Bryere] daughter, who in turn is out of a old-blood Thoroughbred mare (Toronado/Needles/Shannon/Unbreakable). Congratulations! Every Sinatra Song foal I've seen has been simply stunning and this was no exception!!

Is Wait for Me, an older Oldenburg mare owned previously by Jutta Miller??? Mare could be in her teens now?? Think her barn name was Rosie.

Congrats to everyone! VolteVT, did I see correctly - did your colt win the 2008 colt glass (beating the colt that eventually ended up as Grand Champion)? If so, then double congrats!
VolteVT
Jul. 15, 2008, 07:51 AM
talloaks - Yes, that's the mare. I think she's a 1991 model? She had 3 Premium foals for ISR/OLDNA by Donnerluck before Meredith bought her. She used her as a riding horse and showed her through second level before breeding her last year.
DownYonder - Yes, Landmark won the Colts of 2008 class by 2% to beat the Grand Champion initially, but that Sinatra Song colt really turned it on in the Championship classes! Wow he can TROT! :) Also we showed Landmark's mother in the Mare Division (she was Champion Mare and Reserve Champion Mature Horse), so by the time the Grand Championship came around, we were all pretty tired!

Interesting on the mare Wait for Me, she came from Chestnut Lawn Farm and was purchased through one of the auctions that Hans and Jeff Marsh put together!! Know the mare well, those bloodlines have produced consistently, Joan Fleck has the dam and many daughters and they always do well. Congratulations to the owner!!:D

I did my first Material Class (Geldings/colts 4 years and older) and Suitability to become a dressage horse with my 4 year old Hanoverian gelding by De Laurentis. He was such a good boy! We placed 4th in both classes but it was his first outing and we just wanted to prep for Devon.
I was really just thrilled that we cantered and got our leads
