Wow- the show up in north florida- wish i could go~ its tomorrow- entries are SO small!!! First class is at 8 am, last class is at 9 am! such a shame- I do thing the stall costs were most of the reason, 90.00 for 1 & 135 for mare w/foal..
and gas costs too and not alot of people knew about this one....
such a shame!

What show is this? I'm in FL and I'd like to get a feel for what goes on where.

That link--is it just for the breeding classes? Aren't there u/s classes, too?

Whoops. Scrolled down and answered my own questions. Interesting prize list. Are you saying i tis not typical, Jesse's Mom?

Wow, I am not in FL, but that surely is light turnout.

In the one Midatlantic USDF sporthorse show in VA that I went to in mid June, the turnout was about average. The 2 year old filly class had 20 entries, the yearlings had about 10-12 each (ie, colts and fillies, ~20 horses total), the foals had about 4 each colt/filly class. For 3 year olds, there were about 5-7, about the same for older mares.

I was surprised since gas is so high that our turnout was so good.

How about other USDF in hand shows (eg, Proud Meadows), what were the class sizes like?

I believe that there was very little notice put out for this show. It is a shame, as the second Canterbury Sizzler won't have breed classes. Wish I could have gotten one of my girls prepped in time for this one, but it was not to be.

That is EXACTLY it Mary Lou! The woman organizing this show has not done a DSHB show before and has only done a one day rated under saddle dressage show (she does schooling shows every month), so she didn't want to put the word out TOO much and be overwhelmed. Might be for the best to be done early as the weather is going to turn NASTY in the afternoon. I wish in a way that she had a bigger turn out, but for her sake I'm glad that it is easy to manage. She does plan on doing another one next year and will advertise more etc.

The entries down at the Summer Sizzler weren't much heavier though from what I saw (they were busy, but not as busy as they normally are). I think that this year is going to be lighter showing season for most people. I'm just planning on doing this one and the finals up in Atlanta in Sept.

I do know that Mary Jane was accepting entries up till the very last second (I think the last entry was Tues or Wed this week....).

I just got back from carting Tate and Emma over and we'll take Sera over in the am (I'm so stoked to have a rated show 5 miles from my house!!! WHAT A LUXURY!!!!!).

The Canterbury Sizzler ran from 9:30 until after 3PM. It was a much bigger turnout that any of us involved with SSHA anticipated. The judge was super, too.

ok just got a call-I told my owner to bring cards up- scores are wrong.. with the #'s she gave me no way to add it to 84-
So she went up -seems some scores are wrong- not sure if all scores are getting checked- but i feel they without a doubt they should check all scores from the entire day.
Championships are being redone. Seems they were doing general impression X 3 & not X 1
Ill keep you guys updated.

I'm going back over to the show grounds and will get all the scores etc wrote down. Most of the scores were done correctly by one person. There was a period of time when someone else took over to give person A a break for potty/lunch or something. Person B tallied all the scores all the way down the sheet with a coefficient of 3, instead of the last one with a coeffecient of 1. It was me that caught that there were errors. Mary Jane got all excited and told me that MY colt had scored a 97 actually. I told her that as nice as he is there is NO way he scored that high . Went back and retallied scores and then thought to look at others. (My colt's final score was over an 81/% though... will have to look at the decimal point). They did redo the colt championship but the placings did not change.

Show started just after 8 am (had to wait 10 mins or so for EMT to arrive as they have to be on the show grounds) and we were done around 11 ish. Not a bad day for the first time she was having a show like this. Jos did a great job and since we had time actually went over everything with each competitor and explained his placings etc.

OK, time to change clothes, grab lunch and run back over to the showgrounds. I'll post photos and scores etc when I get back home in a few hours. (OH but VERY excited, Tate, my 2006 colt DID qualify as Grand Champion of the colts/geldings championships).

I still haven't made it back over to the show grounds - there are several of us that are going to dinner tonight. I went and got hay instead (riddle me HOT AND TIRED!!).

I can post what my crew did:

My 2008 filly, Sera Veneziana, handeled the stresses of the show etc very well. This is the filly whose dam we had to euthanize the Tues before the 4th of July, and she is 3 days shy today of 3 months old. So to say that I'm pleased is an understatement. She was well behaved, got on and off the trailer like a big girl and went 'round the ring like she had done it before. She was well received by Jos - he really liked her, BUT she was slightly "off" in her left hind. I think that she got banged by my other filly earlier and because of that we scored a 70.8%. She did get a 7.5 for her confo and a 7.8 for her walk... and Jos didn't eliiminate us for the lameness... there were two in the class so I tech qualified with her for the championships, but we didn't take her in of course.

My 2007 filly, Emerald Fire, (this is the chestnut filly that I showed last year with the 4 high whites and the blaze) did EXCEEDINGLY WELL. She really turned it on in her class and her long side of the triangle gave me goose bumps. She was awesome. She scored a 79.7% and won the class hands down. She got all 8's except the trot (ironicaly) and that was a 7.9%. For the championship class it was VERY close (per Jos within 10ths of points between the top 3). My filly had had enough and just didn't sparkle like she did in her class. I was getting my colt and there wasn't a whip behind her. She was 3rd in the championships.

My 2006 colt, Tatendrang, is the colt I showed last year also (he was 5th in that nation last year). He still has some growing (musceling etc - he is pushing 17 hh so he can stop the upward growth LOL), but he really is an incrediable mover. Today he let it all out also. One of those moments where people gasp when they see the movements? He had an 81.5% (8.4 for the trot) and was Grand Champion colt. I THINK that he may have had the highest score of the day, but I wouldn't swear to it. There were only a handful of 80's, I think 1 - 3. There were a few 79's, one or two 78's, but most were 70 - 76 range.

Oh, there was a colt by my now gelded TK stallion, Emerald Impressions (Preston), that was at the show. He was 8 weeks old, won the colt's class with a 76% (might have been 76 and change but not sure) and was 3rd in the colt championships. When Jos was talking about the different horses, he stated that the Reserve Champion was a better mover, but the weanling was better in type and conformation, and it was close between the two. So I was a happy grandmother too! :D (he is o/o a nice Arab mare)

It was a good and friendly show... I was distracted (3 horses all babies and a stud colt that has just recently discovered that he has testicles... I was running and pretty focused LOL), but had a good time. It is actually kind of nice to get such great feed back from the judge - there is the one advantage of a smaller show. Your clients Lisa prob think that I'm a witch as I didn't really have time to respond to a lot of what they were talking to me about - really was just very very focused. Their babies were all very well behaved and handled themselves very well. The filly is very cute!

Dad took photos (one of your babies was even in one Lisa LOL) but none are really good. I'll get motivated shortly and post the ones that are half way decent.

Jos tends to score very high for good horses, but a 96 would have been insane! LOL!

Congrats to all who did well, though! Scores in high 70's/80's are certainly not too shabby!

I COMPLETLY agree! I knew that was a mistake!! LOL. And even with the light entries I still feel that my colt's win was "legit" - at least for today! Give him another two weeks and he'll be in a funky growth spurt and wouldn't have done as well!!:lol:

We just had our 2nd breed show for our New England Breed show series this year. First class was at 7:30am and last class ended around 6pm. We have had super turnout this year and lots of spectators so that is nice. We qualified my stallion Schroeder (Sandro Hit x Escudo I) for the championships. Woohoo.
