I have posted a couple of times about a mare I bred in 2007 that lost her 2008 foal due to infection. We tried to breed her back live cover and things did not go so well. We then planned to try AI but now things just are not working out for SO and we feel that SO does not want to attempt to breed her anymore, for whatever reason. SO is not a full time breeder so my guess is SO is just too busy. Now we want to breed her this year before it's too late. So two questions, can we still breed and who would you suggest for her. I am in Salisbury, Md, would prefer fresh cooled and have a vet who is ready to do this. I want to add height to my mare, but not much. She has a nice step but needs a little more. She has a gorgeous head and I would like the foal to come out with a nice refined head and neck. I also would like a stallion who will add a calm to her. I don't mind sensitive, just not jumping off the walls lol. I'm looking for a WB or TB, but don't want live cover, it's too traumatic for her. And a stud fee under $1500. Hopefully you guys can help because you are so knowledgeable. If you have any ideas, PM or e-mail me at eventercrazy2006@yahoo.com or just post here (no bashing please). I'm not looking to be told this is a stupid idea, I just need some help. Thank you so much
Kudos to you if you read that.
Here are some pictures of the mare

Take a look at Raffello. He is very elegant, and when I bred to him he threw a beautiful head and neck, plus a leggy appearance and nice topline. He has an excellent temperament and since I'm assuming you are breeding for eventing, his gaits are nice enough that he also shows in dressage. He is well managed and his semen is excellent. http://www.synergysporthorses.net/raffaello.htm

You might want to contact Angela Barilar at High Point Hanoverians in Chestertown, MD. She is a professional stallion owner and has a very nice selection of fully approved WB stallions suitable for producing dressage or hunter prospects. They are all available via AI and have very reasonable fees. I am sure she would have something suitable for your needs (unless you are looking to produce a jumper prospect).

That is a nice looking mare. Substance and quality (and a very sweet face).
All the best in getting her in foal!

Ditto Down Yonder. I know Ms. Barilar has been helpful to mareowners facing similar situations, and you would be able to get fresh chilled from a nice selection of stallions.
You didn't specify what discipline you are interested in -- though I am guessing from your email address it is eventing?
What about Innkeeper, or Cicero's Icewater?

I think Raffaello would be a great option for you as well. He is gorgeous to look at, very reasonable stud fee, and great bloodlines. I think he would improve your mare's topline and hind-end, and his foals are very attractive.

Sir Wanabi produced very nice foals that scored premiums at the OLD NA inspection last year. He has the sweetest temperament (he scored 9 or 10 at his stallion inspection if I remember correctly).

All of our boys are under $1500 and I am still shipping semen. Cathalido really stamps his foals with gorgeous, long necks and big gaits plus great jump. They are very rideable and trainable.

Rosenthal puts pretty heads and necks on his foals.

Oooh, Cathalido could be a really nice match. Check out the video with the junior up. He looks very rideable.

We are dealing with several new people this week in the same situation. I often get calls in the morning requesting semen the same day from total strangers. Everybody is catered to. Many people breed to Silvio without ever meeting him. When they eventualy do they are amazed by him. Last week some lovely people spent a significant chunk of money for a Contender mare so they can breed two mares to him this year. Join the club, you will not regret it!

Vinca owned by Ginger Parker, Flower Farm in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania would be a nice match. WWW.flowerfarmhorses.com. His babies are very sweet and and are beautiful movers. His first foal, a filly, has done very well at D@D the past 2 years I do know both frozen and fresh cooled semen are available. good luck breeding your ownn is so exciting.

Coromino may be a good stallion for you to consider. Amy is very good to work with. I have a 2yr old by Coromino with several of the qualities you are looking for.
Speaking of Cathalido, I just bred a mare to him yesterday, and Barb from Silver Creek has been outstanding to work with as well.
Good luck in your endeavours!

What is Silvio's stud fee? In the various discussions of him, I can't recall his stud fee...:)

Actually, despite my e-mail, I am looking for a Hunter. Sorry if I confused anyone. Thank you for all of your help so far.

Have you browsed the Equiery's stallion issue? Do you have the stallion edition of the COTH?
Those are both great starts.
Do you want to be able to register the foal? Are you interested in showing the foal on the line until it is old enough to start under saddle? What type of hunter are you trying to produce? Do you want one that a Pro can ride? Or strictly an ammy type? Upper level rated hunter?
What are your mare's bloodlines? A lot of WB stallions have some TB blood already. Knowing your mares bloodlines will help some of the extremely knowledgeable posters on here recommend stallions that will complement those bloodlines.
There are some GREAT threads on this forum already about proven hunter stallions. Do you already have some in mind that you would like more information about?
Have fun picking out a sire. But, don't rush into it. It's a big decision!

I really like Cathalido - and Barb is WONDERFUL. I just dont have the right mare for him.
I am breeding to More Than Luck this year who is lovely - but his stud fee is $1850.
Another that has been mentioned quite a bit is ROC USA - who was my second choice this year.
I love Apiro and Autobahn as well - lovely boys and great stud fees too.
Westporte is HOT right now and he is a very very nice horse. Not sure what his stud fee is however.
Personally I would spend the few hundred extra dollars if the stallion is the right match for your mare.. then you get what you want.

Wow... I would second watching the video with the junior taking him over some mighty big jumps--bigger than her, it appears. That is one gutsy little rider! Love the trainer's understated, "That's the one to quit on." Indeed. Cathalido's an impressive, good-looking boy.

What about Guarenteed Gold if you are looking for a Hunter? (then again, I don't know much about hunter breeding but he seems like he produces alot of hunters...and you will get a palomino):D

Vinca is a lovely stallion, but I don't know that he would add height. I believe he is on the small side (which I personally like, but I think the OP wants to add height).

You may want to take a look at Ironman, he definately adds height! And he passes on a wonderful temperament. He was the USEF leading Hunter Breeding sire in 07. He is noted also for passing on a longer neck and beautiful head. He stands through October.

Thank you to those who suggested contacting Angela Barilar, we are going up Saturday (tomorrow) to talk to her in person and to see some of her stallions. She was very prompt to respond to my e-mail and has been very helpful and understanding so far.
Thank you also for all of your wonderful suggestions and advice. I will let everyone know when we make a decision. :)

Thanks Donella for your recommendation of Guaranteed Gold ... :)
He doesnt have any *hunters* out there yet - his oldest offspring are 5 this year and one daughter - Faux Finish - is a 4 year old and doing VERY well in the Young Hunters this year and will start over fences later on this season.
He does put a gorgeous head and topline on his foals and a wonderful, trainable temperament and with your mare you would 100% get a palomino foal as well if that is of any interest to you at all
Examples of his foals out of a wide variety of mares can be seen at:

Let me know if he might be of interest to you and all the best in your stallion search for your lovely mare!

How about Special Memories *Pg*? He is at Touchstone Valley Farm in Upperco, MD and his owner is wonderful to deal with. One of his colts was just sold at the elite foal auction in Germany for the second highest price to Burkhard Wahler (Klosterhof Medingen), stud farm of Caprimond, Hoehenstein, De Niro and Clinton I among others.

There are lot's of nice HUNTER sires out there. Don Alfredo, Ironman, Popeye K(I think more then you want to pay but nice), Cunningham, Donatelli, Apiro, Redwine, etc. I think some of the suggestions were more jumper or event horse. Probably due the confusion about your name.

TC - I have seen you post this often, and I have to speak up now. GG's oldest offspring are 6 this year, not 5. You have some 2002 babies on your webpages and I also know this because I looked at a 2002 GG baby when shopping for a yearling in 2003 - her name was "Veloute". ;)
Anyways, back to the topic.. I will recommend Balta'Czar if you want an incredibly fancy, quiet Hunter. His foals are competing in the Hunter ring and doing well, one of them in particular "Scandalous" - owned by Ashley Faoro, is placing and winning classes regularly on the A circuit.
He is incredibly prepotent, and my 2008 foal by him is simply spectacular. He's super laidback, I shampooed him for photos at 3 weeks of age, even bent down to scrub his white socks, and he just stood there, chewing lightly on his lead rope. lol :D
Good luck!

Ummm ... Pablo, the 2002 buckskin colt died as a weanling so yes - technically speaking - he DID have a 2002 colt that isnt alive any longer ... That is the only 2002 on my webpage. I didnt own Guaranteed Gold at the time, I didnt stand him or have anything to do with him and as far as I knew, there was only the one 2002 colt by him
And as far as another one named Veloute - that is news to me as well! Thanks for the update :)

I second Ironman, ALWAYS (from all I've seen) throws excellent temperment, jumping ability, and of course gorgeous head and neck. Not to mention Nancy is awesome to work with! Your mare looks a lot like my mare who hopefully is bred to Ironman this season (waiting to find out) I also already have an Ironman gelding  Can't seem to get enough of the good stuff :D

There's antoher photo of him on the color genetics page - he's a cutie!
Seems to me, when GG was on the Trinity Breeders website, there were at least 3 or 4 2002 babies advertised on there. I remember the smoky black foal as well as Veloute.
We all realize that you didn't stand him before, but that doesn't change the fact that he has older foals on the ground. ;)

Yeah - I have to take this year, subtract the year I was born to try and remember how the heck old I am too ...
Guilty as charged! I guess he has 2 (LIVING!) 6 year old foals on the ground somewhere or other ... ;) ... and yes I think there was one other and it died in a trailering accident and that was probably on the Trinity Breeders website back in 2002 or 2003
Six or seven years later ... back to the topic at hand ... ...
