How come? Not enough entries? That's a shame--such a good opportunity for the babies to get out and see the world! I used to shlep Bonnie everywhere when she was 2 and 3.

Sorry about this! Please don't get discouraged; FEH classes at River Glen will go on as scheduled. I hope everyone that was planning on going to Champagne Run will now be able to go to River Glen.
The reason the Champagne Run FEH show is not taking place is because the organizers did not advertise the show through the Omnibus and their website. Therefore we could not get enough horses to sufficiently fill the classes.

Hey Mickey -- they do have yearling classes too!
Kanga -- we were bringing two horses up from Florida and are just devastated. :( River Glen may not fit in our schedule and after that, nothing in Area III until November. :(
D -- we are working on coming up next week anyway, as it is the trip Beth wanted for her birthday and she has two farms scheduled to see, so we may bring Tyler and Harvey up for a vacation! Check your email for specific questions!
Still sad that my stunning baby is all trained up and has no where to go :(

New to Eventing here... but what is FEH?

After seeing it run at IEA, what is the big deal if you only have 2 or 3 competitors? It's not like you have to hire a totally separate judge? I don't understand why it couldn't run as planned even with only a few entries. But that's just me. Heck, I've seen a YEH 4yo class run with only 2 in it and you have to set jumps for that!
LSM - FEH is new to me this year too but it's Future Event Horse -- for yearlings and 2 yos. Judged in hand.

Hey guys -
We were also bummed that Champagne Run didn't work out this year - but here's a suggestion: If you have a favorite local event (doesn't have to be recognized - but it often helps), give the organizers a call and see if they might be interested in hosting an FEH event (or tell them to give the USEA a call to find out more about it). These types of events are relatively easy to host (you simply need an area to show the horses on the triangle - a ring is helpful, space to walk the babies and get them used to the environment, trailer parking, etc.), and we have several lists of judges across the country who would be acceptable (or if the judge is not on the list, let us know what their credentials are...we're open to ideas!).
Mostly, I think more organizers would be interested in hosting FEH shows as long as they know it'll be worth their while. So if you plan to show several babies, and have a few friends who'd do the same, then contact the organizer and let them know that you'd plan to come and show. Many organizers don't know how easy this type of show can be...and fun! (and a bit easier and more profitable than a YEH event - there's no dressage ring, jumps, etc.).
Hope this helps - don't be afraid to get out there and do some promoting! This series is still young, so we need your help and support to make it work. Glad to hear people are interested! :) As we all know, there are tons of sport horse breeders (whether it be for racing, show jumping, dressage, eventing, etc...) across the country, who'd love to show off their babies (it's a GREAT way to market them!). As the person who enters in all of the results on the USEA website, I really try to include as much of the breeding info as possible (sire, dam, breed, for sale, breeder, owner, etc.), because after all, isn't that what this program is about?
Plus, I want to see Libby's awesome little bebe :D
Thanks!

Emily -- my little bebe isn't so little anymore  I was corrected on that the other day by my farrier -- she lives at his house and he sees her more than I do! :D
I'm really disappointed at not having the chance to show her off, particularly because her breeder is in IL and KHP was close enough for her to see one of "hers" compete.
I have, in fact, talked to one of our wonderful Florida events and Rocking Horse has added FEH to its schedule for its November show.
But, I do have one suggestion -- I asked for the class mostly because it will get her out and around and seeing and doing things, but the points that she would earn there will not count towards anything, since the Championships are in September and she will age into a 3 year old as of December 31. This means that any event that wishes to hold the classes has no incentive to encourage people to show between the Championships in Sept and the end of the year.
With our breed associations though, any placings will count towards awards in the breed association, plus be good advertisement for the breed and for the stallions involved.

Libby -
I completely understand where you're coming from... we've been waffling for a while about the time/location of the Championships, and I'm still not exactly satisfied with what we've come up with so far, but for the time being it'll have to suffice. And it stinks that those shows in November don't really qualify you for the Championships... maybe this is an issue that needs to be brought up to the Committee? But keep in mind, sometimes there are YEH events that happen after the Championships in September...simply because people enjoy them for what they are - they're fun, educational, and promote their babies.
I know what you mean about the breed associations and counting towards awards - I wish we had the same type of thing with the USEA (perhaps in the future?). I think the concern would be that many people would be "point chasers" and drag their babies out to these events every weekend trying to gain points. Who knows? I'd like to think that most people would use better judgment.
And speaking of, it's sad that we're not able to expand this Championships to more convenient locations (an East Coast, a Midwest, and a West Coast, etc.), but our hope is in time this will happen. No one wants to drag their babies halfway across the country for one event, and we don't expect you too.... but be patient and if you support the local qualifiers it really means a lot to the program!
Can't wait to see your pretty girl - pics!! :D

Oh, I know it has to be difficult to come up with a system that will work and meet all requirements -- as I've hashed it over in my mind, I haven't come up with a solution that will work any better.
But, just for the fun of doing it and the experience she will get and to support one of our organizers in their desire to give us what we are asking for, even though it won't "count" for anything with USEA, I'm still planning to show her in November at Rocking Horse. The experience for her will be terrific and it will "count" towards things in her breed association, so it isn't as if it is wasted effort!
I don't have any pics of her on this computer that are great or recent -- I'll post some to photobucket from home! :)

I'm taking my yearling colt to River Glen, and hoping to talk a friend into taking her colt plus another Mac filly. I'm one who wanted to go to Champaign Run too, but just couldn't do it with gas prices the way they are.
Bensmom...what is this about Rocking Horse in November?? That's super close to me, and one I'd love to support. Can you send me more info?

it also includes 3 year olds. so yearlings, two and three year olds. They are currently shown in hand on the triangle. similar to dressage breed shows.
There is more information on the classes here.

Megan -- sure!
Alice was able to get it into her Omnibus listing, and she was really nice about adding the FEH classes to the November show date. I will make sure and start a sep post about it when the Fall Omnibus comes out to draw attention to it.
The downer about it is that with the 2008 Championships being held in Sept, and the horses automatically aging up on January 1, any shows done between Sept and Dec 31 don't count towards USEA Championship points.
I decided I didn't care, as my filly will get breed recognition regardless, so I wanted to go and show her there -- I will probably also bring her 1/2 brother and the three year old that was supposed to go to CR.
So, I will probably have three for the FEH at Rocking Horse and <fingers crossed> maybe me and talkofthetown both going BN. :D :D  That is the first weekend in November -- the first and second, I think.
But, especially that last part for me, anyway, is a big maybe. :)
Go Harvey! :D
