I am trying to prepare myself for eventually competing at recognized Training level. In addition to getting out and doing lots of cross country schooling, I want to do some unrecognized stuff first. I competed at Waredaca's unrecognized event a few weeks ago, and had a great time. The only other places that I have found with unrecognized training are Plantation and Weave A Dream. I have also been thinking about the short courses at Loch Moy.

Are there any others?

What do you think of Plantation & Weave a Dream's unrecognized courses and Loch Moy's training level stuff?

Thanks.

Consider putting "Area II" (or wherever) in your title to get the right people to look at your thread. :D

How about Elysian Hills?

Ewww, Invested! You know better than Elysian for higher levels!
VHT has a starter trial at the end of Aug. And they have lots of CT's too.
Also, go to www.usea2.net and they have listings.

hahaha--what???

My trainer ran their Training and Prelim earlier this year (while in the past, he has discouraged me from going there) and said they've made a lot of improvements since the last time he'd been there.....

MDHT's Training is very inviting. I have not ridden it, but I have seen the course and I definitely recommend the Short Course.

Area II overrunneth with excellent unrecognized shows. In addition to those already mentioned,

Bucks County Horse Park www.buckscountyhorsepark.org (http://www.buckscountyhorsepark.org) and

Fair Hill Starter Horse Trials www.fairhillinternational.com (http://www.fairhillinternational.com)

both run fantastic unrecognized shows.

Flora Lea just posted that they are running one- there's a separate thread somewhere here on it. Can't speak to an unrecognized there, but their recognized shows are well-run. (dressage warm-up leaves a lot to be desired, but the XC and SJ courses are good).

Waredaca is another one but I"ve never competed there, rec or unrec, so can't speak to it. Always gets great reviews on here though.

Oops- just remembered Fair Hill Starter does not go to Training... although the one Novice course I did there was hard enough to be a training!:eek:

Yeah, Fair Hill does not run Training, but their Novice is starting to look more and more like training.

Last Saturday, they had the Trakehner, a coup and a stride into the water, the bigger downhill jump into the ditch, a coup to a foundation up about three strides later, a step up jump, over a steep, short hill, down the hill and a stride to the bench.

I'm not sure all of these are really Training questions, but they were not featured on the Novice course two years ago...

Personally, I think Fair Hill Novice is starting to become more of a pre-Training than a true Novice, though.

What eveyone else said but also check out www.mdcta.com. They have a nice calendar w/ rancom pony club events too.

I can't speak for Plantation but WeaveaDream is a nice, soft training course in my opinion.(Sad this will be the last event:cry:)

I think the unrecognized Plantation is a bit of a crap shoot. I know that the June one ran over the same courses as the recognized. That said, I am not sure it was a hugely difficult T. It looked pretty doable to me and I'm a wimp. The unrecognized one in Oct/ Nov tends to be easier, I think. There's also the unrecognized Olney, in Joppa, MD. That was my and my old mare's first T, and I thought it was pretty reasonable. It's in October I think. But again, it runs over the same course as the recognized.
