The kind who has already been in the water complex or the kind who will? :D

The kind that will (as soon as the put the dressage letter "c" in the water), just hopefully not when the temp is less than 30 degrees like my friend did!!! Although we do have a delightful picture of her when she got back on and galloped up the hill with algae and seaweed hanging of her boots:)

Hopefully not the kind that will, but since I have not yet....guess I am.

My friend went in on a cold, rainy day and had some technical difficulties staying in the wet tack with her wet breeches after that...

Well, now I'll be thinking twice before registering for event when its cold! I can only imagine how uncomfortable that might be... Although adrenaline on xc course may help with that.

I am the type that will (because I have not yet), esp. since my mare has a tendency of putting breaks at the water complex.

Has - schooling at Checkmate, total green slime!

This reminds me of a story my friend/coach told me... She was doing the I course at Checkmate a number of years ago, when you had to jump into the bigger side of the pond (the "pond" at Checkmate is probably a couple of acres in size, and is natural, so at some points, pretty deep!), so she jumped in, and her horse just decided to go for a swim! Right into the middle of the pond! She said he wasn't touching bottom for a good part of his doggie paddle... after her initial surprise wore off she got him going in the right direction and they finished the course (with MANY time penalties of course!).

She said she's never been quite that wet... and she didn't even FALL OFF into the water! :D

I'm the type that will... hopefully not anytime soon though! (knock on wood!) ;)

Not an official complex really, more of a gigantic mud puddle. Does that count?

Has...after already falling off once at the log into the water...but at least I managed to get her IN before falling off again...

The worst part was having to ride my other horse XC later that day in soggy underwear.

Been dumped in the water once schooling (horse leaped WAAAAAY off the bank and I totally fell off bakwards!) and one time my horse fell in the water schooling (beware of events that do not maintain the footing in their water complexes and let turned-out horses dig holes in them 'playing').

Has. First clinic ever I fell off in the water complex, sat there for a split second then splashed the water with my arms and said "sh#t!" I think the clinician thought I was mad at him. Came out to the clinic the next year for XC day wearing those floaty arm things and told him I was ready. :)

The kind who will....luckily the horses I have had love the water. You are more likely to find my in a heap at the bottom of a drop...I hate drops. So...since we are just going Novice now...as soon as we move up you can find me in a wet heap at the bottom of a drop into the water!

The kind who has....while schooling the double banks into water at Glen Oro. On the upside, water doesnt hurt as much as ground. On the downside, water jumps are usually far from swimming quality.

DEFINITELY Been in.....the back field water jump at Rocking Horse. Several years ago, just out hacking and the water jump is always the last thing that the Spot pony and I always did. We were hacking out with a young man from NC (not telling who), water jump was full of water and tadpoles. Spot got in, there was never an issue with that after Shelley L. taught him about water, but then he saw the tadpoles and he started dancing. I informed him they were tadpoles, much smaller than him, but he knew they were piranahas! So he spun and off I went, well my riding partner thought he would block Spot from getting out over the lower bank. Said he would not step up on the taller bank....well Spot showed him. He stepped out the tall bank and then stood there saying....Mom I saved myself, it's up to you to save yourself!".

Trust me there was not a dry place on me. The young man I was out with, we fortunately could joke about it that that's how all his dates go....wet. :)

Has. I took a swim in the blue algae killer water complex at Lost Hounds. (That stuff will not come out of your clothes, no matter how long you soak them.)

I will say that I did a nice front flip, landed on my back, probably made a killer splash and somehow managed to pull off my horses' bridle as I flipped over her head. Now, that takes talent!

a horse is in there somewhere. The good thing was that this was back in the day when water could be at least 12 inches deep.

I haven't gone for a dip in a water complex yet but I have gone for several dips in the local lake and creek teaching my horses that water is a good thing.....apparently it was a very good thing because she attempted to roll  I have been swimming more than once ;)

I will be the one thats GOING to hit the water  Our first c/t was tadpole so we didn't have to go thru the water but I tried and failed  but now I've been taking him on a trail that has a lake and we unsaddle and he goes right in and lays down  Its the cutest thing, so hopefully we won't have the water issue at our next one ;)

I got LAUNCHED into the water at Ledyard...Clinic given by Mark Phillips. Double bounce in, not completely sure how it happened but I did have time, IN THE AIR, to say, "Well, I've never done THIS before!!"

Just think, now that we have the damn 1-fall-you're-out rule, when you next fall in the water, you will not be allowed to continue.

Has! Water jump at Fair Hill Prelim a few years ago. Mare jumped in over table just fine, took 1/2 a stride of the total 1-stride distance, her eyes went  at the drop into water, she ducked right, I flew into the drink, and she high-tailed it for the starting line. Talk about the walk of shame, covered in slimy mud... :o

Already has! Years and years ago, a group of us was schooling at Canterbury (down south/central FL). My trainer was using me and my pony as a lead for her then green eventer. My pony said Enough is Enough, and down we went.
It was actually refreshing in the 90+ degree heat.

Has, and learned from that lesson! You don't NEED to override the big house into the water!

Lucky for me, it was at VA Horse Center. Not only did I have dry EVERYTHING, but I also got to jump in the shower. That's the way to do it. The last few fences were interesting. I was slick as snot and mad as hell.

And, just because your horses like water doesn't mean you aren't likely to go in the drink. I came off because I rode very boldly and my horse responded by jumping like I rode...then pecked on landing. I never had a chance!

And, I am fairly certain that there is photographic evidence and I would love to have it, but I HATE dealing with Sporthorse Studios.

No pictures for me, I was only schooling, not worthy of camera.

I am bound to be back in though, as I intend to upgrade at that event, but if I do, someone had better get some good pictures and someone had better nominate me for the Rubber Ducky Award.:D

should have, but narrowly missed it when horse bailed on the A element going in -- it was very slo mo and I sort of gracefully teetered off his left shoulder, hovering over the water...and then he kept going right and I landed on one knee in front of the jump.
Guess that doesn't count and I'm still due. Horse seems to have gotten over his water phobia and young'un just drives right in like the 4 wheeler he is, so I'm sure it'll come as a fun surprise....

Head first into the water complex during an event. It actually happened last September at Training level. Don't think I'll be making the same mistake again! I guess he couldn't see it very well (he's a xc machine and rarely stops) but he hit the brakes and I got tossed head first. He decided to jump and in the pics you can see him twisting to keep from stepping on me. He galloped straight over top of me and managed to NOT step on me at all but one hoof grazed my left shoulder.

Agreed. When I fell off it was because I got nervous and lost my balance. It was a clinic, and I went from doing my second drop ever in the beginning of the lesson to ending with the Training drop in! The clinicians apologized to my parents for pushing a little too hard (I was in the BN group!) but that pony was a jumping MACHINE and always got himself to the jump perfectly...the clinicians got a little too excited.

I will be going in sooner or later..my horse, at the moment doesn't really like to drop into water and will launch himself as far as he can into the water so he doesn't have to be in it long. So I'm used to all sorts of acrobatic tricks going into the water. I'll probably fall off when I have a horse that goes into water perfectly.

My one and only dip was a doozy-

I was schooling my intermediate horse Harry at Jim Graham's. Harry, while wonderful, is not exactly the most careful horse around (Jim has called him "stupid bold" more than once. More than 10 times actually.)

We jumped a big table in the water, 2 strides to the bounce bank island. The bank is large. Harry was over-enthusiastic and made it there in one-and-a-half. And which point we basically bellied onto the island. I managed a complete midair sommersault and landed sitting on my butt off the far side of the island in the water...down a drop of about 5 feet. I was holding the reins, looking up...at all 1200 lbs of Harry teetering on the edge of the bank trying to decide whether to crash down on me. Luckily, he decided against and I lived to tell the tale!

2 horses later I still hate that island....and Jim likes to remind me that I was wearing pink star underwear under my see-thru-when-wet beige britches...

I guess I'm one who will. :sigh:

It almost happened a couple of years ago on the first occasion I schooled my horse in the water. I walked in to splash around, and my guy decided to roll. His legs had started to buckle but a crack with my bat convinced him to stand up again. :D

Gras Ridge, second water, waterskied on the back of my vest across the water and got beached after 40 feet, The Woman followed me all the way on her nose.
Sadly no pictures, I was told it was rather spektecular. I am still trying to find somebody who has taken pics.
I do not remember what happened

haha yeah. I use the rubber band trick...:)
I'm just glad my horse is as amazing as he is. The reins got wrapped around his leg and he just stood a stride away from me until someone jumped in the water to get him.
You will never catch me getting ahead of a horse going into the water... ever.

I was at Brian Sabo's New Years clinic in Fresno, Ca. So it is about 45 degrees out, which is pretty cold for out here. I was wearing a t-shirt, vest, sweatshirt, and jacket and was comfortable. So my fabulous gelding leaps off the bank and lands 4 footed in the water and of course I come off. I try to hold on because, those of you who know Ram Tap will understand, I did not want to let him loose, but as he is draggin me through the water I realize that its not gonna work so I let go. He stops and walks up to Brian who just stares him right in the eye and does nothing, seeing this my horse takes off back to the barn. I leap out of the water ripping of layers of soaking cloths while trying to chase down my big TB in tall boots. A Pony Clubber caught him and I got back on and headed back to the group. I was SO embarrassed. So Brian told my to jump the down bank into the arena then come back and jump the one into the water. Well the DB in to the arena is like 200 yards away so I go galloping over and go to jump off the bank my horse is an ass and stops so I quickly spin my whip and hit him as hard as I can. Apparently you could hear the crack back were the group was standing and Brian said "Now THATS how you hit a horse".

The first time I ever jumped into water I wound up hanging from the pony's neck with my butt mere inches form the water screaming "BACK!BACK!". Said pony dropped his head lower, causing me to give up the fight and drop to my feet into the water. I was less than amused but my instructor laughed so hard she cried.;)

I haven't been in the water yet... but I did have a near miss. I was going cross-country and there were two waters, and although one of them was only flagged for a level lower than mine I decided to canter through it to prep my horse for the real water jump. He skidded to a stop in front of the first water before hopping in, which propelled me up his neck (and as his head was lowered, my face was mere inches from the water). Luckily he raised his head and I was able to scramble back into place. We then went on to complete the course in the fastest time and finish second overall!
