hello,
so... i'm thinking i need a new figure 8 bridle.... and found one that looks pretty nice, but.. haven't heard of the brand and can't find it on the tack review...
it's a verona figure 8 jump bridle by perri's. it's in the newmarket color (which...i want a deep chocolate brown...can i get that with oiling or is the newmarket that yellowy/orange color???).
anyways.. it seems like it should be good quality.. and has the buckle ends which i like...
any advice? anyone tried this brand before??
thanks!
ps... i need a speedy response cause the sale ends today!!

I don't know about the bridle, but newmarket is the light tan color (which I'm sure can be darkened) havana is the dark brown color.
I know Perri's makes other nice leather goods, if it's a decent price, I say get it.

Im on the hunt for a new figure 8 bridle too. I think Im going to go with the Nunn Finer Galway, and just buy the separate Nunn Finer figure 8. Its havana, the only colour I will buy, and quite a good price at VTO.

Is this it? Ya, that's a pretty fugly color. With the fancy stitching you'll have to be really careful not to mess it up with oiling. And it looks stiff.

seems like a lot of ginger bread. Especially if you have a loud colored horse. Makes it look kind of awkward.
Legacy Tack (legacytack.com) has one but it's expensive! yikes. 10% off right now though. + another 5 bucks if you use my sponsorship coupon code. KABOOM
no reins with that price. but dang it's nice.

here's another pic of it

Personally, I do like Bobthehorse. Buy the figure 8 by itself.

Depending on the brand, yes newmarket color can be that orangey color.

What difference does fancy stitching have to do with oiling? All of my fancy stitched bridles oiled beautifully.

I'm not a big fan of the fixed ring figure 8 noseband, which would make me want to steer clear of the bridle you mention. I prefer a figure 8 that has the slide, like this one here:
http://www.legacytack.com/p/11144/Nunn%20Finer%20Figure%208%20Noseband%20with%20Slid e.html
They're just easier to adjust. That fixed ring, IMO, has a tendency to rub and not allow the figure 8 to sit where it best needs to be fitted on your horse.

Perri's has seemed like sevicable tack, but not my personal first choice. I second checking into Bobby's tack. My XC figure-8 is a Nunn Finer figure-8 on a Bobby's headstall. Bobby's also makes a figure-8, but I don't know how the price compares to the Perri's. The dark havana of Bobby's is really nice, too if that's the color you want. Not so orangey or reddish as the Perri's leather, which would require lots of use and darkening oil (and lots of it) to get the rich chocolatey color you want, IME.

I don't have this specific bridle, but I have had great luck with my vespucci bridle; really nice leather and the fit is great. I wasn't really believing the whole blurb they give about how the bridle is redesigned (in terms of padding, fit, etc) but it fit really well and worked well with my picky and fussy horse. Here's the vespucci figure 8 at dover:

i did have my heart set on the vespucci, but...it's just so pricey! so maybe i'll wait until my saddle sells or some of my other tack.
i appreciate the speedy response :) You guys are quick! and i'll look into bobby's too :)

I am not a fan of Perri's. Its Indian leather - I freely admit to being a leather snob, though.
I third (or fourth) Bobby's for a lesser expensive bridle - I've been very pleased with thier quality. Surprisingly I have a Treadstone for my daughter's pony and that was pretty cheap and it has turned into one of the softest bridles in the barn, so maybe that is an option too. Its not a figure 8, though and I bought the bridle 2 years ago so hopefully the quality is still the same.
I LOVE my Jeffries Elevator (but its not a figure 8) and even though its supposed to be my show bridle, its my everyday and show bridle now because I like it so much.
I have a friend with the Vespucci - also very nice.

I love everything about the Vespucci except the figure 8 part. I prefer the classic figure 8, and I not only hate the look of theirs, but I found it didnt fit very nicely to my horse.

I just noticed that Legacy Tack is having a sale, 10% off all bridles.

yep...and i panicked since that sale ended today i thought, but... NOPE :) :) it will go through some/most of july she said :) so whooo hoo. and thanks pruplenurple for the extra money off :) thats sweet!!!
i'm pretty sure i'll go for the vespucci. i do like how they are "ergonomically" designed... i have the flash for fleck for dressage but.. .ti's sorta reddish brown though.. though legacy tack does offer like 3 different browns. and i just can't figure out what size to get him. i'm pretty sure the one i have is horse sized and not oversized and it fits him great except for the browband. which... i have a fancy one i'll probably use anyways.... so i'd be cool with that. i wonder if i could find one to "fit" and see if it works before buying it... hmmm... might have to give my friend a call :)
anyways.. thanks for all your help! i got to work early (after sleeping 4 hours between shifts) to try to play online and see what to buy but...if those darn dogs and cats wouldn't quit coming in.... so now at 6 am i have a "minute or two" to play....argh! alteast the sale didn't already end on me ;)
thanks everyone!
