Located in Harrodsburg, KY. One of my husband's clients (he's a farrier) has a very nice small pony she needs to rehome. He looks to be a Shetland cross. Guessed to be about 12 yrs old. Solid black. He is a stallion right now - and has been used as a teaser on TB farms. He is the most well mannered pony (stallion or otherwise) I have EVER seen. He is not studdish at all, although the owner says he is a nice teaser - very vocal but not aggressive. I held him yesterday for his trim and I would not have guessed him a stud if I didn't know already. Sorry - no pics.
He would be a great teaser or geld him. She says he has been ridden and that kids have climbed all over him. I believe it with his great attitude.
He is kept in a dry lot now, as he has foundered in the past. He was ouchy yesterday before he was trimmed, but his feet were about 4 months overdue for trimming and had WAY too much foot. She thought he has re-foundered, but there was no evidence of that in his feet (no heat, no wall separation, no sole bruising, no hoof rings). He actually has very solid feet. After trimming he gladly trotted back to his pen. I think it is more a matter of proper hoof care.
If you are interested in him, he will need proper hoof maintenance (trims every 4 weeks) and a dry lot to keep his weight under control. He's a good body weight now - but still VERY cresty. He may benefit from some Thyrol-L as well. He is in no danger of being dumped anywhere, but the owner is having financial troubles (hence his lack of trimming recently) and needs to thin the herd. She is also giving away a 15 yr old Naevus mare (TB) that I will list.
