Thanks so much for the great photos! I tried to take pictures of my yearling (011 & 012) but all I got was the outline of a pony blurred by the haze.

Do you know if he is a purebred or partbred? Colt? Gelding?

He is a stallion BRP. He was just beautiful. I was told his name but can't remember. They have a webpage. I will try to get that for you.

Kathryn Southard knew nearly every pony in the ring so maybe she will chime in when she gets a chance.

Gelding, bred by Lynn Kiefer, and I'm guessing purebred, but I'm not positive.

That's the same pony Rideagoldenpony was referring to. I'm sure either of you could purchase it! I'll be glad to give you Richard's contact information.

Cheers, I believe, is out of a Rainfox mare, so he's a partbred. A gorgeous partbred. :)

LOL

Without those dangly bits.... not very useful for me! WITH them, however, I'd have him in my barn in a HEARTBEAT.

I love the booty on that pony :) I am breeding my (big bodied) Arab mare to a Welsh B (she is at the breeder's as I type)... hope to get something that looks like that gorgeous boy... but a filly ;).

Thank you so much for posting those pictures. My pony Star Bound's See Me Through took first in the 3 yr old gelding section, then Reserve Champion Best Young Pony. I was so pleased and I think I am still in a daze from yesterday. You got some really great shots of him.. thanks!

A little OT, but are the majority of handlers men?

Yes.

Yes.

Why?

$64.00 question.

Tradition and not as many women are as competitive.

Yeah Sakura! Thats a question I have been pondering for a long time. Sure would love to see more women handling their horses/ponies on the line.
...that is a whole new thread! If I had the $$ I would do it , just to amuse myself ,in all honestly. I have to say I have watched a few women handlers that do just as good a job as the men. Think it is a bit of the "ol' boys club" mentality. jmho....now ducking to avoid the flames..lol.

I have a filly back east with Cheryl Maye (Maye Show Ponies) for showing at the Welsh shows, and so I asked her about Upperville. The pony she handled won his class, and she was voted best dressed handler. :D So there's ONE woman out there, anyway!!

Actually, I noticed another female handler with a very exquisite grey pony!

I will admit, I had a man handle my horse for me at upperville. But now I am determined to learn the ropes and do it on my own. So I will be another woman in the field, I might feel semi-out of place and young too (24) but hey eventually I will get it

That is interesting... especially since I show sport horse in-hand (Arab breed shows) on the triangle... I am guessing these ponies are shown in similar fashion???... I see a lot of women handlers at our shows, defiantly more than men. Guess that's why it caught my attention.

No, not if your 'on the triangle' resembles SHB classes à la DAD. One doesn't have to be particularly sporty to handle HB horses. ;) Wasn't Drew Taylor showing ponies quite successfully there for a while? I worked for Mike Rowe for a little bit & sort of learned the ropes of HB handling - there is definitely an art to it, especially when dealing with sometimes fracticious youngsters :uhoh:. I suspect a lot of younger girls (and boys, for that matter!) would probably be out riding, not managing babies ... just a guess, though.

We are way off topic for this particular thread, and there has already been a recent discussion on this, but Sakura didn't say women didn't handle, the question was didn't more men show in hand, and the answer is yes.

The only way to change it is for more women to start.

Simple.

I have to say I have Cindi Deibert handle my yearling fillies & I am thilled. Most importantly my girls love her. I have the utmost respect for her & her abilities as a horsewoman.

Karen Zinkhan of Maryland is also an excellent handler.
