I love the idea...but it is way too far from home for me! Too bad, its a great idea. Now if we could just have regional shows like this. This is a great first step...I hope it is well attended.

Having a regional Pony show of this type would be a bit moot at this point, when there is generally only one or two sportponies at an entire show in any region at any time. Most regions are not even giving High Point Sportpony awards, unless they are with the ASPR, which does offer High Point Awards when their members or the show request it.

Just wanted to add that there will be a High Score Weser-Ems award offered at the Pony Cup. ;)

is this the 1st year? My friend probably would have went if she had more notice to budget and plan. Her pony, Glenhaven Barossa Valley, won the Born in the USA award at Devon a few years ago and is now doing well at 3rd level. He is a Welsh.

and a nice [Welsh COB] one at that......for us "welsh" enthusiasts

MagicRose...the point of having pony dressage shows in general is to attract ponies to a USDF show...that is the point. There are quite a few ponies in the southeast...so I think organizing a dressage pony show down here like the Dressage Pony Cup is a great idea myself. Unfortunaltely I am stretched a bit thin right now myself. I agree it would also be great if the registries would offer more awards for ponies.

I very quietly had this as a pipe dream. Booked out the vaca days, planned the trip.
No way in HELL the economy would let me do it.
I will watch with a mixture of awe, best wishes, and a small side of jealousy. I would have really, REALLY loved to had made this at 3rd, or even 2nd. We can't even manage to get to a lousy lesson though. :sigh: :uhoh:

I know a few of the welsh who went and did really well. Sounds like it was a very good turnout with some great scores.

Thanks! That's great there was a good turn-out, I hope they decide to do it again next year. It would be interesting to know how many different breeds competed.

Me too on both accounts. I only know the majority if the welsh either due to recognition of their prefix or I know the horse/breeder personally. One of the welsh breeders there mentioned that there were more than a handful of haflingers but other than it's anybody's guess who was not there.

Pony Cup was awesome, they're definitely hosting again next year. Very well attended for a first time show and they're plans to expand. But, more on everything later, busy composing article and uploading pics of show.

The Pony Cup WAS awesome! Great turnout, well run, great prizes, fun people! It was WELL worth the trip (and the gas money)! I will definitely be in attendance again next year! A HUGE thank you to all the people and sponsors who made it possible.

Great to hear. I too would like to see more regional shows. Ponies are fabulous for the smaller adults, and we need more kids-and-ponies in dressage too. :D

it is way too far from home
its probably way tooo far from home for a lot of folk
Why not borrow the FEI World Challenge competition formula its been used with great success to help less experienced Dressage nations take part in International competitions without having to leave their own backyards... by having the judges travel to the competitors rather than the other way round :)
Especially for the higher levels, maybe a special pony class could be put on at Regional Championships or at a major East show and one on the West and have the judges do the travelling?
Then once everyone gets up to scratch send the judges global so everyone can compete in a Pony World Cup... Im sure someone would be keen to South America, Australia, Canada, South Africa... and whereever else :lol::lol:

I think that is a great idea about something at Regionals.

I sincerely hope we have the National Pony Cup next year and it would be terrific if we could have some more regional shows offered. The New Forest Pony Society of NA sponsored their breed award and our farm sponsored the Training Level Champion Award.
Wish we could have been there with Forrest Flame but bringing up from Florida would have been just too costly.
Kudos to the organizers for putting this together and congrats to all the competitors.

Anybody know who the photographer was? I know Bab Tarr was there for the entire show, but they had a different photographer for just the pony division stuff. A woman, but that's all I've been able to find out.

The east Coast Pony Cup will be held for the third year at the Centerline Show in Saugerties, NY on August 16/17. Their entries are similar to the Paxton Show.
Those of you who are envious, start campaigning for one of your shows to hold a Pony Champ of some sort. Get a group together and tell the manager that you will oversee the Pony Show part of their show. That is what these two shows have done. They are piggy backing on a show that is already successful.
Also there is an unrecognized Pony Dressage Show in NJ that will hold its third or fourth show this year. They have a great turnout and can keep the fees down.

Lendon, thank you for all your hard work promoting kids and ponies. My daughter and I are both on ponies and I hope to help fill up the divisions next year, if nothing else. I believe California Dressage Society shows have high scoring pony awards, and I look forward to contending for them and promoting more ponies in dressage.

Kathryn King Leacock. She took some awesome stuff.

The photographer did a wonderful job. She was very pleasant and really took the time to get some nice photos. She took over 2200 photos that weekend of the ponies, and while she's still working through them, we have a few to share.
We're still in the process of updating the website, at this point only results have been posted. We will have a link to the photos which will be set up either by competitor number or pony name (TBD) where you can see/download your photos. We're working as quickly as we can, so just keep checking the website - www.dressageponycup.com
Here are some I have so far...

All I know is that we (ThinLine) donated some prizes for this show and this was the first time that I actually received a thank you note from the winner (turns out she won the FEI Grand Championship). Usually get ones from the shows or organizations, but never from the actual winner. Jennifer, be sure to contact us next year for class sponsorships!! Who knows, maybe I'll have a pony ready by then!

As the proud new owner of a Haflinger, I want to send out a big congratulations to all the Haflinger owner/riders who competed at the show and, from the results I've seen, did very well! I was drooling over Cedar Lane Farm's young stallion Adrenaline Rush when I was pony shopping and it seems he did especially well in his classes.
Congrats to all involved! I hope to get my act together enough to compete my mare later this season - Go Haflingers!!

I'm SO glad to hear what a huge success this show was, and that they're planning on doing it again next year. I had really hoped to make it with my Haflinger mare this year, but she just wasn't ready and I didn't want to push her even though I REALLY wanted to support the show. Count me in with both girls for next year though!

This show was so exciting to read about! I hope they have it again next year. We sold a GRP that we bred to a dressage rider in Cleveland, OH. He will be 4 years old next year and she already has her sights on Paxton. I may have to take a trip out there to be a proud Grandma on the sidelines! :D
