Okay, this has reached the point of ridiculous. We have had this colt since he was six months old. He's now four <rolling eyes>. He is by Walk on Top and out of a Frohwind daughter. Jos and I can NOT agree on a name. The ones he likes, I hate. The ones I like he hates. The stallions is over 17 hands :o! I haven't put a stick on him - I'm almost afraid to. But, he's very, very sweet and easy to deal with. Has cat like gaits, that just really lithe type movement. He's still very, very young looking <smile>. Definitely not done growing yet - a big, tall, growing adolescent <lol>.

So, here's the deal. Below is a poll on names that we semi-agree on. If someone comes up with a better choice that we use, we'll give ya a free breeding to the boy. He is going for his stallion inspection this summer.

HELP!!

Yes, he died a couple years ago now, I think.

And yes, okkgo...this kid has LEGS!!! He's still trying to figure out where they need to go. He reminds me of our young teenage worker bee, Blake. Blake is 16, 6'2" and 135 pounds!!!! Once they both grow into their frames, they should be quite striking <lol>.

OMG that's my old horse, "Why Not"!!!! He was by Walk on Top also out of a Frohwind daughter, and they could be twins!!! Who is his dam? My guy's was Allegra, by Frohwind out of a Shagya arab mare. I bought him from Helmut Schrandt.

He was leggy, and chestnut with three socks but had a blaze--I'm telling you, it's Why Not reincarnated. It's EERIE! I've got to dig up pictures and post them. Down to the way you describe him "cat-like gaits, lithe movement" so did mine. And a canter to die for! He would have been about 13 or 14 I think now? Unfortunately, the lady I sold him to had to put him down a few years ago from a pasture accident. I CRIED and CRIED, gawd I LOVED that horse. He was the sweetest, most willing creature in the world :(. A true in-your-pocket horse. He'd follow me around like a lost puppy.

I got news for ya, he never grew into those legs! He remained very refined and leggy his whole life, but he was a beautiful boy none-the-less.

I LOVE him, is he started yet?

OK, here's my Walk on Top gelding out of the Frohwind/Shagya mare. Frohwind is known for crossing VERY well with Arabs, and the Shagya's are very sporthorse in type. His dam held the record for a long time of highest scoring mare at her inspection. She was really NICE. She was ISR/Oldenburg approved, back when the German Oldenburg verband still was involved with the ISR. My gelding had pink German papers.

I made an album of him. In the first two pics he was about 2-1/2, the next pic he was 5, and the last two under saddle he was probably 9 or 10 and it was the lady I sold him to riding him in those pics. She trained him to 4th level. I wish I had never sold him, but my circumstances at the time necessitated it.

If your stallion has the temperament my guy had, he's going to be a GEM, and I'd breed to him in a heartbeat if I had a mare!

This is fun.... I've had too much coffee and can't sleep so the name game it is!

Stream of thought....

A few years ago I remember a champion working hunter named "whataboutme" the name was so cute, I wished I'd thought of it!

We had a junior jumper named Whiskey Talk. I think he's retired now.... it was a good, memorable name.... could be used again...

Or...

How about ....

Wonderland (John Mayer..lol...is that young enough for you?)

or, Walk on Top Too

or, Wanderer

or, I like someone else's suggestion of Windtalker (wasn't it the name of a movie about indians during WWII?)

hmmmm.... I suppose a name like William wouldn't be interesting? Remember Milton...who'd a thunk of naming a horse Milton?

but, I digress...

how about Windsor .....thinking of William :-)

or, Windfall

or, Woodstock

Waterloo

Chestnut, apparently:

"Whistlejacket
SIRE: Mogul - GODOLPHIN ARABIAN
DAM: Mare by Sweepstakes - mare by Hampton Court Chestnut Arabian - sister to Brown Farewell by Makeless - mare by Brimmer - mare by Place's White Turk - mare by Dodsworth - Layton Barb mare (Family 4).
Chestnut 1749. Bred by Sir William Middleton of Northumberland. A good racehorse, he won a famous match for 2,000 guineas over 4 miles at York in 1759, beating Brutus by a length. Sold to the second Marquess of Rockingham and was retired to Rockingham's stud. Sired colts Coriolanus (1762) and Roscius (1767) and a filly Laura (1766), all from Pretty Polly, but did not leave much of a mark on the breed. Made famous by George Stubb's dramatic portrait (the one shown is a less known portrait of the horse, also by Stubbs)."

All I can say is WOW!!! You guys have come up with some really, really cool alternatives. So, I'm going to have to pin down Jos and see if he likes any of the proposed names better than what we've come up with to date. I really like Walk the Line and Whistlejacket...that one is just kinda fun and I know Jos loves Stubbs' work <smile>. This has been a really fun thread to follow <smile>...Might have to do another poll to pick the best of the best! Thank you everyone! I should have done this 3 years ago <lol>. As Cyndi noted, the poor guy doesn't even have a barn name...well...that's not entirely true. We "do" call him Ginormous 'cause he IS!!! Funny, I always swore I wouldn't own a horse over 16:3 and I wouldn't own a chestnut <rolling eyes>. Never say never. Those are words you will almost certainly eat.

You said he is very sweet . . . the first thing that popped into my mine was:

Willy Wonka

I am reminded of 30+ years ago. I was working off my board evenings cleaning stalls after my regular banking job. I turned in my notice, and the last day said, "Yea, I will never, ever have to clean a stall again!" :o  :dead:

My coffee mug that I take to the barn in the morning has a cartoon on it and says"The queen doesn't muck!".....I wish....

Keeping it along the "W" names, I like:
WARRANTY

Watch tower
Well Founded
Well Spoken
Welland
Out of the ones I listed, I really like Warranty. Your boy is so substantial, and just breath taking!
Best of luck with your name search!

<smile>...One of the things that I tell the kids that work for me is that I will never, ever ask them to do something that I haven't or won't do myself. 95% of the time, I'm out in the "trenches" with them and while I may not be thrilled to have to do it, I've found that they respect me (at least they "say" they do ) and will do just about anything I ask of them. I LOVE my workers and periodically tell 'em that today's "job" is to go fish for dinner ;) Fortunately, there's three ponds on the property so they don't have to go far.

At least you didn't have to change your stallion's name from what I did as my "W' name, "Whoops".

It's really TOUGH coming up with a memorable name that fits. I have a list that I keep, but when push comes to shove, I didn't like any of them for this guy and the ones I liked Jos hated <sigh>. Tough being an opinionated pair.

Anyone know how to change the poll and add names or do I have to just start completely over?

I don't know how to change the poll but I did think of one other that fits him pretty good. From the book "Horse Heaven":

Oh my goodness, does that mean "Walk The Line" is a finalist???? That means I *might* win a breeding???? Ohhhhh boy!!! My husband's eyes would be rolling like dice if I said I'm going to breed a mare -- but that would be next year, wouldn't it? Plenty of time for it to sink in, LOL!!!

If you do a new poll, you may get even more interesting responses if you put it in Off Course or the dressage froum, then give us a link here so we can keep up.

West with the Wind?
Walk Up High?

Or one of my favourite books, by Beryl Markham, West with the Night.

But, as a diehard Aerosmith fan, I also really like Walk this Way.

I don't know, something about that diamond on his forehead and his coloring makes me think he should have diamond cufflinks on as well.....even though those are 3 socks and not "cuffs" all the way around. :D

Wrhett Butler just seems to fit him best.

Wyatt Earp is nice, but with that face, Wyatt is just wrong. I'd think that would fit better with a wide blaze and not a classy diamond like this boy is sporting.

Just curious the status of this guys name and the inspection (if you took him already). He looks so much like his sire to me.

<smile>..Thanks for asking. We decided on Walk The Line, so Penny...you've got a free breeding coming. We hauled him over to Silver Creek Farm on Monday where he'll be staying the next month or so for training for free jumping and continuing with his under saddle training. I'll be hitting Barbara up for updates periodically. We head out the end of this month for our short courses and for freezing semen, so we won't even be able to attend the inspections <sigh>. I'm hoping we can go over one day next week before we hit the road.

So everyone keep your fingers crossed for us. He's certainly been an easy, easy stallion to deal with!

Do more than hold your breath!!! Keep your fingers, eyes, toes and ears crossed and hope he passes! No video footage yet. We've got him going under saddle and we're hoping to try and make it over to Silver Creek when I get back home (I'm in Washington for my Mother's 76th b-day - It's her first since my father died so I flew up to surprise her <sad smile>) and get some video footage. In the meantime, we have to rely on Barbara to keep me updated. <lol>.

Geez, I've got to drop in on this forum more often. After so many years of needing W names it ended with hubby naming the last colt Willy Wonka (so that one's taken folks ;) ) Definitely not anything I liked but a friend had started calling him Willy when he was just a couple of days old and now he's stuck with it. If I had seen this thread I sure would have had a better name....

Nice boy, Kath. Good luck with him! As for me I'm hoping we've bred our last. We're just too physically challenged to handle stallions and babies anymore. Besides, we're having WAY too much fun driving :D
