View Full Version : Please help me decide on a name!

Here is the filly in question...

We would like a straightforward & tasteful name and are having a bit of trouble deciding between the two names for her.

Her dam is Southern Leigh WF (South American Way x Aurora by Abundance) and sire is Waldaire (Waldgott x Aries by Adios III). Baby's name must start with a W...

If you select 'Other', please give an alternative suggestion!

TIA!

I like Westerleigh. Very classy (for an elegant young lady) and British sounding (but then, I'm an Anglophile). :)

Westerleigh rolls off the tongue better and incorporates the dam name on "theme"
I like names with themes or meanings!

I know it's not going to make the cut, but "Wench" is the first thing that comes to mind with her adorable facial marking!!!

(Seriously, no disrespect intended, it just lept out at me!)

I had a terrible time with my Waldaire filly because the dam's name is Pirates Widow and I wanted a pirate theme/it had to start with a W/ and that is all I kept coming up with!!! I just couldn't do that to a filly though....

How about Waldenleigh? Or lea, which mean "pasture".

I picked With joy, sorry Westerleigh sounds too masculine.

I'm w/ Cheekyhorse. While I love Westerleigh, it just sounds so much like a colt name to me.

How about Waterlilly WF, Waltzing The Night Away WF, Water Cascade WF

She is very pretty what
ever you name her.

I like Waterlily, as rtakmom suggested. Or, you could incorporate the dam's name, i.e., Waterlileigh

:sigh: The problem with having repeated crossings with the same stallion is that you use your favorite names first! :)

Waterlily is an 06 here on the farm. Waltzing is Waldaire's half brother. Willow, Windy, Walden & Whisper all belong to clients...

Thanks for the help, though...there are times I wish Wally came from Ferdinand and then I could switch to F names, but then he wouldn't be who he is, so all the suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! (as are the compliments about Joy  She's pretty special which is why I am agonizing over this name thing! )

On Equine Repro's thread, there are about 500 W names listed. You might check some of those out!!

THe filly's star is really cool, btw. It looks kind of like a seahorse!

It's good fun helping others find names for the babies but also amazing that I generally have all kinds of trouble coming up with nice ones for myself. Even with my human kids - could'a easily named them Thing #1 and Thing #2...

How about "Wembley" for her?
