I am looking for a pony stallion to breed to my 15.2 hand Argentine WB mare. I would like to find one that puts a strong hind end on its babies. She has a sweet disposition, great movement and great jump and good conformation, but is a little weak in the hind end. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to breed for a large pony hunter.
Thanks!

I have two Sec. B Welsh stallions by Carolinas Red Fox. Adagio is producing lovely babies - please visit my website to see his offspring. Other nice stallions include the two that are at www.sugarbrook.com. There are many more out there - good luck!~

I would love you to contact all those who have bred to Otteridge Foxtrot. He puts amazing hindquarters on every one of them. Here is an example:

Our pony stallion Popeye has his first 3 foals on the ground and all 3 fillies have powerful and correct hindquarters. For one it was a huge improvement over the dam who is out of an anglo/arab mare and is a little straight on the croup. He stands at www.hilltopfarminc.com

Thanks all! I'll look at all suggested. I've got a Blue Rain baby due in 4 weeks. I'm just specifically trying to improve this mare by looking for one that puts out strong hind ends. I've been told that Blue Rain does, as well- any thoughts?

Also, keep in mind that she is 15.2 hands, so I probably should stick to a small or small- medium to get a large- right? How do I post a picture of her on here?

You need to be a Premium Member, and if not, just post links to pictures.
If you go welsh, you mean Section B. This is her first foal, correct?

yes, it's her first foal. She is an Argentine Warmblood, but is built refined.

First foals, tend to be smaller, so you should easily be able to breed to a good sized Section B.
Purebred stallions give more substance. With your mare at 15.2 and refined as you have suggested, I'd suggest more of an old style welsh with more substance.

What would you suggest for the maximum size?

What would you suggest for the maximum size?
We have a 15.3 TB we bred to a 12.1 7/8ths Section B.
He'll maybe get to the top of the line, but doubtful and he wasn't a first foal.

You might consider Hillcrest Top Hat. He's at Stonewall Farm (http://stonewallponies.com/).
I'm of the "large horse variety" myself but I've seen a LOT of his foals and they are impressive. Great minds, very athletic and beautiful heads. They all have a great hind engine and he produces a good canter on his babies that is very rhythmical and rideable.
good luck!! :)

For a first foal from a mare that size you might consider Bodyguard now standing at Hassler Dressage. He keeps size down quite well in my expereince and throws foals with a great hind end. Don't be fooled into thinking he is just a dressage pony...he can JUMP! I have one of his foals...a 2 year old stallion prospect and he is FANCY! I always tell people Bodyguard is the best kept secret in GRP breeding.

Our stallion i'd suggest. He's 12.3 and produces flashy ponies with very strong movement and who are very athletic. Check out our website. I need to get around uodated with newer/better photos and pics of some of his offspring but if you email i can deffinately send you some.

TY for the recommend,
PonyLover, although our boy is Half Welsh and half Hanoverian by a 13.1 hand sire, I would worry that the foal being 3/4 Warmblood, it will possibly go over. He does not have enough foals on the ground out of this size mare for me to confidently recommend this cross with your size goal.

Check this butt out on one of my Hootie (Blue Who) babies who is one month old. Hootie is just 11.2, and this is a pony foal out of a horse mare.

Sandy- I thought about Blue Who, but thought it might produce a small large, which I don't want... It is her first baby and with Hootie only being 11.2, i am afraid that it would be too small. Although it would be okay if it were a top of the line medium! I'm good friends with the Newmans and they are about to have their baby out of your other stallion. Actually, Michael is my daughter's trainer. Tell me about the sizes of the mares and the foals that Hootie has produced....
Any thoughts on Blue Rain since you used to have him?

Just my opinion but, if it were me, and I was going to breed my 15.2 HH WB mare to a pony, maiden or not, I would not choose a top of the line medium as you may end up with a hony. I would definitely go with something smaller than 13.2 HH. I'd actually go with something smaller than 13.0 HH.

I think she meant it would be alright if she bred her mare to Blue Who and the foal ended up being a top of the line medium (as opposed to a small large). :)

Yes, I wouldn't mind a top of the line medium and he is surely cute! I was just thinking to go for a large and stick to a stallion around 12- 13 hands, no taller.... But, there are alot of options there. I agree not to go larger than that- I don't want a HONY!!!!

We've had ponies produced by Oliver Twist and Wynnebrook Starburst out of mares that weren't pony. All have good movement and conformation.

We have free jumped Adagio - his form is great like so many of his siblings by Carolinas Red Fox. He is just 4 this year and we have started his under saddle training and will hopefully show him some under saddle next year. He is throwing about 50% grey as he should - he is not homozygous for the grey gene. Oliver Brown's colt by Adagio looks like he will stay bay. Here are a couple of photos of him.

I have a Section A that would suite your needs. He is a gorgeous mover, with an amazing natural jumping ability.
He will begin showing this year, we were going to take him to a breed show this weekend, but had other things going on.
