I have a Woodlands Pony mare that will be turning 12 this year.
I keep looking at her and I think that I should bred her...... she is getting older and is not being used much anymore.

She is By Woodlands Velvet Rain.... she is a rainbow grand baby.
Has a little TB in there. A med, grey, at 13.1 and a 1/8

She is a little tricky to ride" a go pony' had much success in the show ring..... a doll on the ground.

Her Picture is on my Web-site www.briarwoodfarm.us under ponies.....I was going to lease her but I am thinking now I should just breed her.??????

Any Ideas??????

As far as breeding her, it depends on what you want to produce. I assume you're looking to produce a hunter pony. What size do you ideally want to produce? What are your mares' weaknesses that you'd like to improve? What are her good points?

I'm assuming you're wanting to breed for a hunter pony?

Sandy at Sugarbrook has a LOVELY medium Welsh cross stallion that I just love. http://www.sugarbrook.com

I would want to bred her for a hunter pony. A med or large.
She is a little narrow in the chest, moves and jumps great.
A little of a tricky ride......
I would like to improve her head some as well.

I cant see how you will get a large from this mare. Perhaps I am incorrect, and others will '"correct" me, but I think breeding to a medium, you will get a medium. I think breeding her to a large will get you a medium. Just MHO. Esp. first foal. Woodlands ponies are very nice!! Check the breeding behind the stallion you are looking at. Your mare is not real large, so dont go with anything smaller than she is. : )

I am a huge fan of the Glenhaven boys... Downland blood is well known for ride-ability and all of Suzanne's stallions have impeccable manners and dispositions!

Here is her daddy's pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/woodlands+velvet+rain

What do you know about her dam, Woodland's Magic Snip? Do you know how large she is? I would go full welsh and fine a line that has the Rain Beau in it. I'd definitely go with a Section B as well.

*** However, I've just edited this to say that if I was going to suggest a crossbred, Meadowbrook's Special Edition would be the one I'd suggest because he does have a strong TB mix and you'd have a better chance of more size in a large pony.

Just a thought.................

Va Bred....I think the Dam has Clouds Hill in there....I will check.
I do think a full welsh might be best because there is a bit of TB in there????
Do you think it would be ok to double up on the lustre lines??????
I need a little more of a quieter ride....she is a go pony to jump, but will pack a walk trot kid all day long...go figure.

Breed to Foxtrot, or something similar.......

I LOVE my ponies by *Telynau Royal Charter, www.farmorefarms.com. There are 4 on my website. His babies helped him win the Get of Sire class at Devon this year. Woodland's purchased one of his sons as a future herd sire. I've never had such fancy, level headed and smarter ponies.

If you are looking to breed to a purebred Welsh Sec. B, I invite you to check out my boys. There are foals by Adagio on my website and he is definitely passing on his beautiful head, conformation, movement and personality. Oliver Brown just had a beautiful colt by Adagio and has bred the dam of Top Notch to him for next year. Here are a couple of photos of Oliver's colt. I also love Sugarbrooks Blue Pacific! Good luck in your pony breeding!

I would honestly think about breeding her to Islander (If she would breed him to an outside mare) or Blue Rain and double up on the Rainbeau line. Of course I am very partial to anything having to do with Rain Beau!
