I didn't actually see what happened....watched the race, but didn't see it. Anybody else know?

okay, not where I can see the TV, so I still haven't seen the breakdown, BUT I can hear it and it sounds like it's a compound fracture "very similar to what Barbaro suffered."

Good grief....

On Call vet was just interviewed - stated it was a condyle fracture in the right front ankle. Didn't break the skin.

'Looked to me like he took a bad step. I couldn't see the mis-step very well, but I could see that Chelokee was off as he kept running.

Dr. Bramlage is saying condylar fracture RF. They just showed the ambulance taking C off.

'So sad.

Seeing the Glimmer has also started a thread and the fact she's so very much more knowledgable (hmm, I think I spelled that wrong...but I'm having a tough day, so I don't care), I'm going to leave things there.

According to the article on the BH, Matz states that Chelokee had a dislocated ankle, which has been put back in place, and had a good night, eating, and getting up and down several times. The blood flow below the injury is also good. Bramlage is going to look at him today- Matz says that the ankle will probably need to be fused.

All in all, a better report than it could have been!

For those that didn't see it, he was running well tucked behind the leaders at the head of the stretch looking for room and just took that dreaded mistep. Dropped the jockey neatly and did not step on him. He did not go down, didn't seem to try to keep running, probably an outrider right there to help stop him as well.

ESPN promptly investigated and reported on his injury, interviewing the track vet less then 5 minutes after thre accident. Condular fracture was the prelim but he also stated vets were able to manipulate a dislocation back into place and resplint. Horse able to put weight on it and riding comfortably to Rood and Riddle.

This stuff sucks but I do appreciate the prompt reporting of the horse's condidtion. Jock too of course.

yes, yes, I have apparently tried to give Glimmerglass a gender change surgery  Whoops!

I heard the report a few minutes ago and it's a wonderful update! I went to bed fearing the worst.
Have to imagine his owners and MM are breathing a big sigh of relief!

Spoke to Bramlage late this afternoon on another subject and asked about Chelokee. He's pleased with Chelokee's blood flow to the area; they've taken him off the anti-clotting medication they had him on to help aid blood flow, and that is in preparation for surgery later this week, assuming all goes as expected. Horse's attitude still sounds great! Thumbs up so far.

I talked to a friend of mine who works on a training track ,and he told me that Cherokee did not have a fracture, but a dislocated ankle.Apparently this means that the supporting ligaments, i.e. suspensories are damaged. While this is better than a fracture,it is the end of his racing career. if the suspensory can heal he could have some other less strenuous career.
Since this info comes from someone in the indusrty ,but not in the horse's immediate circle,I would consider it credible, but not nessecarily totally acurate.
