:Sadly, I need to find a new home for this boy. 10 y.o. American Bashkir Curly x Suffolk Punch. 16hh, drafty build, chestnut with flaxen mane & tail. Very friendly and easy to work around. Diagnosed with injured right hind suspensory ligament (there are no lesions, just thickening) and old right stifle OCD. (I can provide the report and films for serious inquiries.) 3 vets have told me that he needs a year or so of pasture turnout to see if it will resolve. There are also a few other treatments that can be done in order to make it heal faster, but they are out of our price range. We believe the injury was caused by jumping, so he should never jump again, but could recover to W/T/C (of course, there are no guarantees, but the vets said recovery is possible with rest). He has been a great riding horse for us; he just needs to have “no work at all” for at least a year. He is not on any medications. He cannot mentally tolerate stall rest to try and make it heal faster. (He got nasty when we put him on stall rest for a few weeks. Happily, his sweet personality returned once he was let out of “solitary”.) He is fine in a stall at night, but really prefers to be out 24/7 with shelter and a companion. He is very curly-coated in winter and slight wave in summer, and is hypoallergenic. He doesn’t need much grain at all, but he is a hay-eating-machine and is happiest on free-choice hay. He is barefoot, with healthy hooves; up to date on shots and negative Coggins 3/08. Free to a good home only; vet and other references will be required. Located in southern NJ.
