View Full Version : Donnerhall line stallions that throw small?

Are there any Donnerhall line stallions that are known for throwing uphill build, length of leg but not huge size? A great canter would be a bonus too. Preferably Hanoverian approved, fresh or frozen is fine. The mare in question is an older fashioned short, chunky little powerhouse of a mare, who is line bred to Absatz. I am hoping to breed a dressage prospect for a professional rider, who is a petite woman. The mare has produced several very successful youngsters by several different Weltmeyer sons, but the offspring are definitely on the old fashioned side with short legs. Would De Laurentis or De Niro fit the bill, or will they throw BIG horses? I know Donatelli is a smaller guy. What about Don Principe? I'll take any non-Donnerhall suggestions, but no Sandro Hit please! I really like Walnut Farm's new guy Benidetto as well. Any other ideas?

I am not sure about a D line guy that throws smallish with long front legs. If I was looking for that I would forsure try benidetto. He is really leggy and a super mover too.
I also think Don Principe may offer a more modern look because of the PT up close.
If you look outside of Hanoverians, Donnarwiess would probably fit the bill. I wish they would take him to AHS for approval.

I would suggest Dauphin. He is a wonderful mover, with an uphill build. And I think he is 16.1 :)

Take a look at Dacaprio. Donnerhall grandson, smaller, leggy and uphill. Wonderful temperment. I have a Donnerschlag filly I adore, just wish she had a teensy bit more leg!

Donella, I was at Hilltop Farm on Thursday of last week and I'm sure Natalie said Donarweiss had all of his qualifications to be approved by the AHS. He is a super nice horse, ridden beautifully by Chris Hickey!! One of my mares is going to Donarweiss this year and I am really excited about the foal, which by the way, is already spoken for!!;)

I have one tall colt and one normal size filly from Dressage Royal, who is quite tall himself and very leggy (Donnerhall--Rubinstein--Futuro). Of the Donnerhall sons in general there seems to be quite a bit of genetic scatter on size and length of leg.
More important to me is to find a Donnerhall son who has and throws a quick hind leg, as many of the small ones seem to throw stumpy limbs and a slow hind leg.
Both my colt and filly are leggy and very good from behind.
I hate to generalize but this has been my experience from what I have seen.;)
Genetics is a poker game after all!!!

A friend of mine has a gelding by Donatelli out of a 16H Trakehner mare.
She has a video clip of him on Horsetopia and/or Dreamhorse.
If it allows you to look by name, his name is Dixon.
He will finish at 16H and is a very big mover.

What about DeLuxe? He is smaller with a great canter and an uphill build.

To my knowledge, yes, he is to be approved with the AHS.

Donatelli!
He is not all that small (not sure why people think that). We have seen him in person and he is AT LEAST 16.1h, officially 16.2h in Germany. I have seen some bigger ones by him but most seem to be about 16h-16.1 ish.
He has the best canter ever - we've had 2 fillies by him now and one possibly coming tonight, both were spectacular hunter-type movers (but we breed for hunters) with huge lopey canters. So much front end lightness and terrific rear end. Also best dispositions.
He is at www.dreamscapefarm.com now and they are now showing him in the hunters after a lengthy career at GP level dressage with incredible scores. He got 8's on free jumping in Germany and so he is very well rounded.

Thank you all for thinking of Donarweiss on this thread! Yes, we will be presenting him at the AHS inspection at Hilltop in July. He has earned all the scores required at Prix St. Georges for his lifetime approval (and he's only turning 7 in May !!!), but he was never presented to AHS for an initial inspection so there are still many steps in the AHS approval process to go for Donarweiss. We are really looking forward to showing him off at the inspection in July :)

What about Damon Hill?

He is closely related to Dressage Royal, who was ranked 15 out of more than 3100 dressage stallions in Germany last year.

Thank you!! no Donnerhall blood, but I think he will give you what you are looking for. As a matter of fact, he has gotten several D lines mares, to quicken up the hindleg a little and add elasticity.
At any rate, good luck!
