I haven't seen this thread and would love to hear everyone's choices for 2009!

Here are mine:

Joy (Jupiter) was bred back to Westporte, we are thrilled with the Westporte filly we had this year.

Dutch Vivacious is bred back to the GP jumper and 4' hunter champion Golan for a full sibling to Gracious.

Escorte de Mance will probably go to a Rio Grande son.


What do you have in the oven or planned for 2009?

Leah (Canadian Sporthorse by Cozy's Commander) will go back to Salute The Truth.
Detente (Oldenburg mare by Davingport) will go back to Salute The Truth.
Good Queen Liz (Thoroughbred mare by Sir Raleigh, dam of Salute The Truth) will go to Brandenburg's Windstar or Bruce Davidson's new stallion, Lion of Kells.
That is, if we don't cut back on breeding this year. Too many horses for Steuart to break and ride plus the rising costs of everything (though we did just put 30 more acres into hay so hopefully we won't have to buy any next year :yes:).

Whooo's So Special (Cavanagh Special x Sir Wimborne) was bred to Sir Caletto yesterday and ovulated overnight and she will be checked in two weeks.

My breeding season has been off to a rough start! The first mare had her foal heat, we short cycled her, followed her follicle to breed with frozen and she never ovulated the darn thing! We put her on Regumate for 10 days and short cycled her and she then had a normal cycle, thank god!
But when we went to thaw the frozen semen, one of the straws exploded ($$$). So if she isn't pregnant this time, I will only have 1/2 a dose left to try with next time.

I have three choices and only two mares (I think) I'm going to breed. Not entirely sure which for whom yet. I have some time though, as I don't start breeding until June. (we have Nor'easters in April still. :uhoh: )

I have a booking already to Saphiro.

The other two I have to choose between are Mateo and Belmonte II TCV.

I really wanted to rebreed to *Nico as last year's filly is just stunning, and a very good nick for that mare. But his fee is way high even for returns. :( Cadence in Color is another one that made the (very) short list. I actually like him a little better than *Nico. Maybe next year.

We bred our Ahorn Z mare to Quinar yesterday. She's an old fashioned, long backed mare but the mother of two approved stallions so she is going to get bred again. Quinar will refine her, shorten her back and give her better hind legs. (Quinar/Ahorn/Ronald)

Tabu just had a beautiful Mezcalero colt and will be bred on her thirty day heat to Autobahn. She's a powerful Saluut II mare but needs legs....Autobahn should take care of that. This will give us the famous A & R cross and I think it will be a match made in Heaven! (Autobahn/Saluut II/Merano)

Reggie is ready to foal out her Cassini II baby any day now. We are planning to swap her with another breeder for next year. If that doesn't happen, she will go back to Campesino on her thirty day heat. She and Campesino make spectacular hunter babies so we're going to go with a proven formula if we breed her for ourselves. (Campesino/Latano II/Caletto II)

Raldeka just had a Campesino filly. He gave her a better, more powerful, hind end. Just what we were hoping for. I'm swaping mares this year with another Holsteiner breeder. Deka will be bred to Con Caletto for them and their mare, Natalii, will be bred to Campesino for me. (Campesino/Caracas/Merano) and (Con Caletto/Ramiro/Ahorn)

Ulissa and Camilla both need a little rear power so will go back to Campesino. I don't necessarily try to breed for a professional ride because that translates to "difficult" in my mind. I do breed for international scope and Campesino will bring that to these mares. (Campesino/Cicera's Icewater/Lavaletto) and (Campesino/Coriander/Athlet Z)

Especiale and Tuya both have international scope and will go to Calido and Canturo, respectively. These will, hopefully, be ET babies. (Calido/Acord II/Contender) and (Canturo/Cassini II/Contender)

Caro will go to Campesino after she has her Quinar baby in July. She is the perfect type for him. He'll refine her a bit and add to her scope. It will be a Capitol I son on a Capitol I granddaughter, which is a formula being used in Germany with much success. (Campesino/Carolus I/Caletto II)

Her dam Debutaunte (Dahlwitz/Wendekreis/Wiesenbaum xx) is going to be bred to Again & Again (Abundance/Our Tops xx/Goya II xx) next month. She needs a slightly longer front & freedom in the shoulder. Those are my 2 mares.

Mom owns the other mares and we have a wide selection of stallions to choose from this year for frozen...Dressage Royal, Wendekreis, Watzmann, Lemon xx, Lemon Park, Abhang III (although the straight shoulder & smaller hock joint has him near the bottom of the list), Brilliant I & II, Goldstein, Shogun xx & Werther. There is the back up of fresh from Waldaire & Avebury.

FS Don't Worry has been called the "Donnerhall of ponies". I became a big fan at the 2005 Bundeschampionate where almost 1/2 the ponies in the dressage finals were his offspring. I had bought the semen several years ago and was saving it for the right mare. After such a long wait, it is a thrill to see it actually works;)

Well, I've made some changes as well.

Despite our best efforts, we did not get a Sonntagskind (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall) embryo from Capriana (Contucci x Martini). The plan was that my friend Lucy would get the embryo and then I would breed Ana to Escudo II.

So, in the spirit of friendship - I decided to let Lucy have Capriana for this breeding season and breed her to Sonntag and I would beg Edgar for an extension on my Escudo II breeding.

In other news, my awesome TK mare Bala was bred to Carlesimo. It was one of those 'out of the blue' ideas :-) He's a wonderful young TB stallion (by Commanchero).

So far, Dream is in foal to Coronado, Rio's Best Kept Secret is in foal to Cielo B, Tropica is in foal to Concorde B and I am waiting to hear about Machtelt to Ferro, Respect Z to Cielo B and Bala to Carlesimo.

I'm going to breed my jumper mare back to the AWR stallion Barleone. She has a 2007 filly by him, that scored an 8.5 for her movement, 7.6 overall (AWR). The filly's name is Bardot :) I was told she probably would have been a premier, but her croup was too short.

The mare is due later this month, and is on the 2008 foals page :) I hope she gives me another healthy foal! The daddy for this year is my friend's stallion Gandalf the Grey.

Unfortunately, the Sandro Boy semen, which in all fairness has a "bad reputation" did not result in a pregnancy.....Oh well, onward!<G> Marie Louise Keur Pref Elite (Silvio 1 ) will now be bred to either Balou again (if her fourth Balou du Rouet due next week is another filly).....and if we get our colt, then possibly to Quattro or his son Quiksilber....Still working on that match!
