So far in 2008, we have had 8 bull calves born and no heifers. We still have about 40 cows left to calve though and I am hoping for some girls! Hubby likes the boys (they are worth more as steers) but I love the girls because we usually keep some as replacements.

PLEASE let that NOT happen to me!!!
We have four on the ground, 2 fillies and 2 colts. Four more to go.... Fingers crossed for ALL fillies!!! (I hope that isn't greedy! We've had years like that before!)

Sorry Lisa... 4 babies on the ground and all 4 are FILLIES... I have one foal left to come (full sister to my Oskar filly you liked so much) and that was fetal sexed as a colt - which I WANT to be a colt. All of my babies are posted on my website under foals.

Well I once was the filly queen - went for years and years without a colt to be seen. This year 3/3 colts. Sigh... My theory is that my repro vet that I have used the last couple of years is just too accurate. Doesn't give those frozen filly sperm time to get to the egg. Grrrrr...

Mary Lou, just like you-I have always had waaaay more fillies (I used to say I was the chestnut filly queen)than colts, just had my second colt this morning, AGH! Two colts two years in a row-everyone says they are easier to sell...hmm, 2 new boys, a yearling and a two year old still here...at least they range from bay, dark bay to black...guess it might help if I update my web site!

I've always had colts. Never had a filly until last year. I used to just assume they were all going to be colts. When the first filly was born last year I was getting ready to send the stallion owner a quick message "chestnut colt, blaze, blah blah blah" and then thought "I better check just to be sure." Wow, the look on my face when I saw it was a filly! And then they just kept on coming.
Only expecting two foals this year and I'm not sure I want to jinx myself by saying what I'd like to have. So I'm keeping my mouth shut.
You folks who are having 12 and 13 foals this year must be really tired by the end of the foaling season. Whew!

Hi Everyone!
Well, it has been a FILLY year for us! THREE for THREE!<G> I have threatened to change the name of our farm to "Chestnut Filly Farm"!<G> Three "down" three more to go... Honestly, I'd rather have mostly fillies.....But I want the Balou du Rouet COLT that I have been waiting for for FOUR years (and Four Fillies!<G>)! AND I want it NOW....And one JUST like HSGF's would be great!<G>

No foals yet first ones due today. About 5 years ago my daughter pulled our production records to see if we had more colts or fillies. While some years were very one sided out of over 150 foals it was only two more colts then fillies.

I have none due this year. Next I desperately want a colt out of one pairing, therefore, I am 99% sure I will get a filly.
living vicariously through y'all this year. Okggo, love the mare & the foal. And of *course* I'm smitten with the first filly. ;) Karin... great photos, they show off the personalities. :D
