They are cool looking boots, though.

I just Googled "Where are Nike shoes manufactured?". They are most likely made in China,
and even if not, according to the info. provided from Wikopedia,
Nike has an embarrassing record of exploiting it's workers, paying them next to nothing, no health insurance or sick days....etc.
I have only just begun to pay attention to this sort of thing.
Yes, what ISN'T made in China nowadays, and we Americans are enjoying our relatively clean environment as well as amazing overall prosperity at the expense of China's. Not to mention China's atrocious record of human rights violations.....
Sorry.

An unfortunate looking boot. That style of zipper makes me cringe. I am not into seeing zippers in a riding boot. Made in China? Phfffft. That finishes that question.

I think the dressage trainer who cringed when she saw me with a bridle that had rhinestones on the cavesson would positively drop dead if she saw those ;) She doesn't have to worry, though, I find them pretty ugly. And I bought a normal bridle ;)

I think they're ugly but the Made in China would never let me buy them even if they were gorgeous. I found out yesterday that my Ipod car attachment thingy is Made in China. :(

In speaking with someone whose job it is to keep a watch on such companies, it turns out that those companies who have been under the most scrutiny have had to make big changes. Nike, Gap et al are on high alert in case their vendors employ child labor etc. since the big child labor scandals of the 1990s. As a result they are (sometimes) now far better employers than a huge number of companies you haven't heard about - yet - who have their products made by smaller sweatshops that are under the radar so far.
Read some interesting arguments for sweatshops here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweatshop).

Probably a whole lot of our things are made in China. Be interesting to take an inventory. Bet if I inventories all the things I could that are in my car, I'd be all like  then like :o and really .'

I'm 99% sure you can't buy this boot. I heard on the news the other day that none of the shoes Nike has made for this year's Olympic athletes are available to the public.
I'm not sure if they will be after the Olympics or not -- but for now, I don't think you can buy them.

I asked Nike and posted on UDBB: they say they're made for the Olympic athletes, but some may possibly be available through retail stores - no guarantees.

Most of the new Ariats are made in China too.... (what isn't these days? LOL)
And no, I don't think they're classic looking, not for the dressage crowd, but I can see them in jumpers, or eventing.....
but ugh, not if they're made in China....
OK, now off the soap box and on to other topics...... sorry.

Are the spurs removable?
Yes. They are removable, there are (I think they said) three different places on the boot they can be mounted, and there are a couple of different types of spur head.

I don't know the model, but they look like a cross between combat boots and riding boots. Not my cup of tea.

I'd never show or clinic in them, but I would love a pair to school in. I bet they're really comfortable! I would prefer not to have the red detailing though - solid black would be better.

Apr. 13, 2008, 11:43 AM
Schooling only!! For show , would not like the zipper showing either and they are a bit gaudy but after a whiole in the mud, they would be fine. Price? I missed that. They would have to be cheap to give up padocksw/half chaps.

Seriously, though, the thought of a sticky panel on the inside of the boot is very appealing to me!

What about the Tretorn Riding Boots (http://www.equifit.net/products.asp?id=47)(distributed by EquiFit)?
Personally, I think they are so much nicer than the Nike riding boots. I assume that the Tretorn Riding Boots will become a big hit with the trainers who spend many long hours on their feet along with long hours in the saddle.
Not sure where they are made - but based off the www.tretorn.com (http://www.tretorn.com) website it seems that they have a real commitment to the environment and to ethical labor practices.
Thoughts? :)

I firmly believe they are made soley for people who play riders on TV, not real everyday type riders

I am fairly sure a good 95% of riders could not afford an item like that anyways....why worry? I heard if they did make it to market, they would be upwards of $799.
Obviously they are useless for dressage shows but it's a company that manufactures footware for high performance athletes. I have a feeling they just didn't slap together some ideas and call it a boot.
Although I don't think they would work for the traditional attire in shows, I'll bet it's comfortable, functional and personally I would take a couple pairs if ever I had that sort of money to blow on boots. :D

I actually think those Nikes look like a pretty useful boot. The Tretorns just look weird to me. A bit too swashbuckling for my taste. Although I could probably make some extra cash on weekends wearing the red Tretorns....

I can't help it, the history lover in me is shrieking and running for cover... I'd love a pair of comfy tall boots, but not ones that look like they've stepped off the pages of a comic book.... but wait, will they make me Super Rider? I may reconsider! Do they come with the power to leap large arenas in a single flying change?

If the Nike boot caught your eye, you should know a few things.
First of all, its not available to the public.
However, there is an even better option. Tretorn is now selling a new high-performance riding boot. Check them out at www.equifit.net
This is a great boot for serious riders and it is stylish...
No Nike logo, here.. and these boots don't have the awful spur attached.
The boots have been featured in Hamptons Magazine and Boston Common Magazine

Just ordered new horse blankets, complete with the "made in china" sticker.

I thought they were smokin' hot. I contacted NIKE and they told me they weren't available yet but would be by the beginning of 2009. They also told me that they'd call me as soon as they were available and I'll keep everyone informed. As well I completely understand everyones opinion not to buy "made in china" products but it is your elected government that helps outsource the manufacturing of a lot of products for a variety of company's. And I'm more than sure that those people opposed to purchasing products made in china have most certainly bought Nike's or some other brand and/or products recently !

The Nike boots get a thumbs down for looks...the Nike swoosh shouldn't be so "out there" and the red highlighting is a bit too much...but I bet they are comfy (which would be a nice change for my feet!)

The Nike boots would be good for show jumpers and jockeys. They say speed.
Now the Tretorns...hmmm. They actually appeal to me. They recall 17th century equestrian paintings, ya know?
I'm a sucker for that stuff. Besides, my feet hurt.

The first time I saw the Nike boots (months ago) I hated them. When I clicked on the Sneaker Freaker site, however, I thought, "COOL"! Yeah, I'd buy a pair, if they're not outta sight expensive.
Now the Tretorns -- it might take me YEARS to warm up to that look!

I saw them at Equine Affaire last year. NIKE was there doing a marketing study on them to determine the feasibility of bringing them to market.
Only a few had been made at that point and there wasn't any mass production planned at the time.
