How accurate is it? Can I assume that it's more accurate than allbreedpedigree?

No. Both are able to be edited by anyone.

Well damn. So I guess the jockey club is the only place to go for in depth pedigrees? I have a 5 gen on my filly's dam but I want more generations.

Generally speaking if you know the sire and dam and you would recognize if their sire and dam are correct, the whole thing will be correct.

Something you really have to take into account is the veracity to parentage claims which can really only be proven through DNA testing.

Like this little colt for example:http://www.pedigreequery.com/ipoopgoldenbutterflies

I believe we could all agree the parent's lines are correct, but this colt's mere existence, in spite of his pedigree on pedigree query, is rather questionable.

Comparable to wikipedia. Usually reliable, but sometimes not. More reliable for more well-known things/horses.

Is that somebody's idea of a sick joke??

Just to demonstrate the accessability of pedigree query: I have deleted the Man O War X Ruffian colt that was named Ipoopgoldenbutterflies. Obviously that breeding never took place.

All Breed Pedigree was created BECAUSE people were adding non-TB horses into Pedigree Query. They are (were? I'm not sure who's running them now) created and hosted by the same person.

Simkie, how do you delete horses on PQ? I've tried--with multiple entries under different (wrong) names, for example--but I haven't been successful at it.

There's a Delete Horse link in the pull-down menu under "Maintenance" in the bar near the top of the screen.

Thank you both. :)

Can you add pictures of your horses on there? Not that anyone would look them up b/c they're geldings, but i'd be fun for me. I looked up one horse that had the cutest pic of it as a foal!

The information in pedigreequery is reasonably accurate, inasfar as it is complete ( there are many horses that are not in there, particularly from more obscure lines) - the problems generally result from duplicate entries and theoretical foals people enter.

If you are using to it gain statistical data on say, all a stallion's progeny, it will be seriously flawed. However, if you are using it to look at the pedigree of a horse, I would be pretty confident it is right.

You can always ask for help in the research area, as I have, for horses where you know the registered name, but can't find them in the database. If I get answers, I go back and enter the information in the database (carefully!). That way the information continues to be built.

If you have some particular reason to be concerned about the accuracy of the information, you can use Brisnet.com (one of the racing info providers) - under the pedigree section, you can search for registered names. That gives you birth year, sire & dam. The service is free but you have to become a member and provide a credit card. It is pretty complete with regards to American horses.

Or of course you can pay the Jockey Club. Just remember, at a certain level their information is suspect too once you go back really deep! Read about the history of the American Stud Book, or the way the British failed to recognize certain American female families (the Jersey Act).

Sure. Once you create an entry for your horse go to the Edit Information, under Maintenance in the pull-down bar. Then c+p your photo's address in the window marked Picture URL

You can also try www.tbhorsepedigree.com Not as many horses as pedigree query, but horses are added daily, and they are very strict as to accuracy. All horses added are verified.

And then there is TesioPower:
http://www.tesiopower.com
which has many fewer horses, but gives a six generation pedigree and allows free hypomatings and siblings.

The people who run pedigreequery will correct anything that needs correcting almost instantly if you call the error to their attention on their forums.

Allbreedpedigree is full of errors. The database doesn't kick out ridiculous connections like a 2001 colt siring a horse in the 1930's.

Vineyridge, you can get free hypomatings through the BloodHorse stallion register--assuming it's a stallion that advertises with them. But there are tons of stallions on there. Some offer TruNicks matings as well.
