Wondering if anyone else is taking a list with them to Rolex, I'd like to get a nice leather halter with nameplate for my new boy. I'm going to check out my tack room to see what I need.

Instead of buying your halter at Rolex, you should order one from www.centralkentuckytackandleather.com instead, it will be cheaper, and then you will have more $$$$ to spend at the trade fair!!

PDC--Ah, but it's so much more fun to shop for such things at Rolex!!! I want a new dressage pad, since we've been confined to the square sandbox for three months straight (ACK) I think it's in order!!!!

If the stars are all aligned by June/July I will need something for the 3D jog, so how about a cool hat? Something that won't scare the hell out of Hubble (nothing derby-esque).

This is our first time to watch. It is going to be me and my mom, two of my friends, and their moms. My dad got us two rooms at the Embassy Suites because he travels so much. :D

I already know I want...
Offset Eye Stirrups
T-Shirt and/or Hoody and/or Hat
I am bound to get more saddle pads
Boots for dressage
Spurs
Jumping Bridle
Short girth
D-savers

This is my first time too, but I've decided a new vest will be looked at. The one I have now is my original vest that I bought when the rule became effective way back when. I've grown a bit since then, I still squash myself in it, but still a new one would be better.

I'm currently horseless, so don't know what else to buy. But my friend said to buy something for me. I'm sure there will be lots and lots.

I've been keeping a mental list since last year :)

- New girth
- New stirrup leathers for my jumping saddle
- Get new CO helmet properly fitted (fell off today, so need a new one *now*).
- Try every x-c saddle I can get my hiney on so that I can see what I'd like to try on Tristan.
- Rolex visor & new ball caps
- A turnout blanket if there are any good sales

Just 23 more days :D

I will be comparing Rodney Powell and Airowear vests, and trying on helmets for dressage/SJ.

Ha! me too! my "original" fortunately broke at the Intro to Eventing clinic - I'm now looking for a new one - keep me posted as to what you see out there. Can't quite make myself travel to Lexington just to shop - would LOVE to visit with Talura and Jennifer, but nope, Rolex is something I can't ratiionalize.

This year, I am on a TIGHT budget so I will be doing very little actual shopping.

However, I am going to try on as many different vests as I can. I have an OLD Harry Hall (from 1995) that must be replaced before I start doing XC again and I have no idea how anything fits. I am also looking for a new show helmet-- kinda intrigued by the Lamicell's.

The two things that I will be buying is a Rolex visor and a t-shirt. I can't go and not bring home some item of clothing!

I had a clean-out and threw some stuff away. IF I was going, and IF I had not thrown it away, I would wear my Rolex t-shirt from l988 when 40 of us trooped down to watch David Wilding-Davies ride Crusader before Seoul Olympics. It would be a true vintage T. I will never throw another commemorative t-shirt away again.

HP has a question-

Is there stuff for the non-Eventer/DQ at the Rolex trade shows? Would a HP be greatly disappointed? (If not converted...LOL!)

RFI -- if you can't rationalize Rolex, then you aren't trying hard enough!

I'm going to be on a tight budget too thanks to the boys vet bills, but I also need a new vest and want to try on the aerowear ones and I think Harvey needs a new leather halter -- Ben still has the one I bought at Rolex in 2000, so I think it qualifies as a good buy! :)

I'm sure something else will strike my fancy before I head home! ;)

Oh my, I havn't started to think about Rolex shopping yet! I've been too scared that my list would get much larger than my wallet. But, come to think of it..I wouldn't mind a new bridle, and my woof boots are almost dead...And I could really use a new (nice) body brush...and...lol, okay, I'll stop now!

A new dressage girth and whatever is being sold to benefit Darren. Wish I could afford a few more things but have to sell a saddle to do that.

Pirateer - check out vendor list on the Rolex Kentucky Event site. Last time I was there I bought some great no-bow wraps, ordered saddle covers and boot bags in my colors and tried on a lot of different breeches (bought a pair of white fullseats from Tanya) and a Kerrits windjacket with Rolex logo (which was very reasonably priced!). Plus Area 8 has a bag check so you can shop and drop off your purchases without having to make multiple trips to your car or lug them around

I'm on a tight budget too, thanks to last months huge vet bills. But, this trip is for me and I plan on shopping. On our way down we are stopping at Prime Outlet for the day. I want some new clothes for work and some jeans etc.

When we get to Rolex, I will of course buy some t-shirts and hoodies. I also usually get a saddle pad to add to the collection. I would really like to buy some Ariat field boots, but I need a weird size so I am hopping it will be in stock. If wormers are cheap, I will load up on those too, as worming 6 horses can get pretty expensive so any cost savings is worth my while. I want a leather halter or two, and maybe some new gloves.

oo, bag check! That is such a good idea :) I usually wait until sunday afternoon to buy stuff so tha I don't have to lug it around; but by then all of the really good stuff is gone

Ok, I've never been but am going this year. Are things priced the same as what you would find on the internet or are there more bargins?

I'm looking for a new cob sized bridle and a dressage girth (and a new helmet, a ROLEX sweatshirt or hat would be nice, oh and a couple nice saddle pads for shows, and I could always use a couple of pair of breeches....the list is neverending!)

I was wondering the same thing...are the prices reasonable?

Do they have like "Rolex" saddle pads....like they do at pony finals? Nice square pads with the Rolex logo, etc on them?

Hmmm...off the top of my head:

• An Albright's leather halter with nameplate for my young horse. She is a big girl now (under saddle), so she has earned her first nameplate halter.
• An Albright's dog collar with nameplate for my young JRT. He, too, has hit this rite of passage (our older Lab already has an Albright's collar).
• A new jumping crop. I broke my Fleck that I love last week. :(
• If funds allow, then maybe a CO Hampton for dressage and SJ. It is about time to replace my velvet helmet.
• Possibly a new Tipperary helmet. It is about time to replace my old one. Need to try on the new design to see if I like it better than the old one.
• Could use a few blankets IF there is a really good deal.
• Maybe a new jumping bridle for my boy if I find exactly what I want for the price I want to pay. I'm not desperate so I can be picky.
• About 30 of those belgian waffle ice cream sandwiches....dang, I love those things! Oh, and some I-B-Back Fudge! I been back every year!

Go to the Equestrian Classics guy. Really nice stuff and not expensive. I got the nicest black halter ever there and I think he does the nameplate for free as well.

Every year I say my list won't be long but it always is! Lots of little things this year -- standing wraps, studs, spur straps, etc. Luckily the weekend before Rolex I'm doing a clinic that is near a decent used tack shop; so I can pick up some used tack and not splurge on Rolex sales. Oh who am I kidding? I'll splurge on Rolex sales, of course!

Every year I find SOMETHING at an outrageous price -- but you best arrive before Saturday if you want them. Last year it was fleecey winter riding gloves for 3 bucks a pop. The year before (major score!), my favorite Devonaire schooling britches at 10 bucks each.
Yeah.

But you have to be prepared to scour around a bit.

I want new reins for xc -- need to FEEL them to know. Baby horse needs front xc boots.

Ditto on the new Tipp helmet -- mine is acquiring a vintage feel.

Oh, and my beloved dansko paddock boots have hit the dust.
That's plenty!!

A lot of nice smalls - & gifty things. Like decals and bumper stickers, there was a whole spinner of party cocktail napkins that were hilariously funny there last year. Some great creative horsey jewelry and decor items. I really liked the booth that made plant hangers from old harness hames!! I'm still kicking myself, maybe I'll plan for it this year. We don't have any great tack shops were I live to get to see any of this stuff.

Now that I have my very own to shop for (and of course giant so anything I had before does not fit) , combined with the fact that my bday is that Friday, I'm thinking my list might end up being long :D.

So far, I know I want a new set of reins (like asterix, need to feel them first)
a dressage pad or two
more f/s breeches
a bit for the beast if I'm still playing with that
Another bridle if needed (see above, if two separate bits are needed for different phases)
knee high tall boot socks (for some reason I have issues finding them!)
halter w/ nameplate for the new boy

There are a bunch of things I have listed that might get purchased if I find it's a good deal.

Of course, those waffle ice cream sandwiches!

I think my favorite find so far was my Tipperary helmet for under $40. That was several years ago, and since they're coming out with a new style I am hoping to find the older versions on clearance again :).

My funds have been cut short this year aswell, between my car and my money makiung weekend being cut short.....

I'd like a new breast plate, some britches, and new front XC boots. but it will probaly be 1 or the other unless I find soem good deals, but we're going on thursday I think. so we'll see.

Also I want to watch them warmup for dressage, can you do that?

I.B. Back fudge! It's a long way to drive for fudge, but.... what can I say, it's the bestest.

Oh yea, we'll replace the Blunnies for DH and me and probably take home some poly pads from BOB, and easiest stud plugs.

Get us some Makers Mark , hope we see Beth and the Utah crowd at the liqure store. Who drives 2k miles and runs into their good friends at the liqoure store? LOL.

Stop by the COTH chinese get together at the buffet on Friday, yummy.

We'll visit with friends from PA, Hi guys! and the gals from AL, get a bit spoiled by our good friends and transplanted Idahoans in Bardstown, visit with Pinkdiamondracing, who doesn't now it yet, but we might be staying with them as our LQ trailer is filling up fast!

Oh yea, there will be braiding and bathing and dealing with the horsey too. I'll let the kids handle that part this year.

23 days, yikes! That means that we have to leave in 14 days, better get on the laundry.

Of course the new pony doesn't fit in any of the old pony's stuff... what better excuse to shop?

Need new Open Front Boots for Extra-Large pony

Nice "hunter bridle" with wider noseband for large headed horse (He has a side job as an Hunter/Eq/Jumper) Oh, w/o the fancy hunter pricetag!

New hunt coat for me! I guess that isn't due to the new horse..but it's something to shop for!

I'm hoping that my Rolex shopping trip goes better than my Ocala shopping trip. Wouldn't you think I'd have been able to find some big open front boots in Ocala?

Oh- and I'm supposed to pick up a nametag for Libish's darlin' poochie Avery!

For the newbies, there are some great deals and sales at Rolex. Definitely stop by the product tents because you can get free samples, coupons, and discounts on supplements. You must stop by the Dubarry tent and (if you are of legal age) enjoy a free glass of Champagne. Just try to not be charmed by the Irish men and wind up with a $400 pair of cute barn boots. :D

FREE SAMPLES?!?!?!?! Uh oh...I can see it now. My bag is going to weigh more than I do!!!!

This may sound stupid, but, do you have access to the barns at all? I know at World Cup they are off limits, but at Pony Finals they are not.

Thanks!

No barn access, but you can walk right up to the schooling rings an watch the horses all week. The Grill on the Hill is often the hang out for riders if you are an autograph seeker.

Barn and tackroom accessories! The barn is suppose to be done in a month, although I've heard that before this time it might be true! I need racks for saddles and bridles in the tack room and the grooming stall. Blanket racks for the side of each stall. I'll be looking at things like sprayers, groovy pitch forks, cross ties--Oh the list is endless...

Yes, we'll have to catch up! I didn't go last year and only did a brief day the year before, so I bought the fancy tickets and the plan is to be there from the first jog to the end. I also didn't compete last year so I feel really out of things. Can't wait...

Tuppysmom, are you going to the Liquor Barn? Seriously, the friends that have visited us since we've lived here, love the Kentucky countryside, but were FLOORED by the Liquor Barn! Hmm... not sure what that says about our friends! Even bought Liquor Barn postcards for souvenirs!

I don't have a list this year, love my Tipperary helmet from last year, but it is just SO fun to browse and find cool things! Libby, a saddle?? Now THAT is exciting!

And once you spring for Dubarry's it's free champagne for life. I'm sure that brings the actual cost down, doesn't it?

heehee -- I will just be picking out the saddle. I still haven't recovered from buying the BC jumping saddle in February, but I want to take a look at all of them in person while we are there so I can decide what to save my pennies for!

I won't be buying much, due to the accident boys vet bills, but Harvey really needs an Albright's halter  and I need a new vest so we can find out if Harvey wants to cart my fat, newly middle aged, butt around on xc! :D

Cody
Apr. 2, 2008, 05:00 PM
Not to hi-jack this, but Libs, Harvey is happy with his rope halter. You go fancying him all up like a wussy boy and he won't know how to act. As for cartin' your middle-aged self around, he's already jumped with this old lady, so middle-age shouldn't be a problem. My only word of advice is don't put him in front of anything unless you're sure you want to jump it. :)

DLee, I don't remember the name of the L. store, but I know how to get there! Bourbon balls and Tennessee Moonshine Fudge as well as a bottle of Markers and probably some Woodford. It has to last a year, ya know, so it will be a bottle of this and a bottle of that. We take oders from the folks back home... and deliver too.

At Rolex we always buy shirts and hats for the folks who generously house our horsey on the RT to KY and back.

I love to look and feel and sniff all the leather tack and other horse/farm equipment.

Nah, Harvey can have one. Spot had/has oh crap however it's supposed to be worded, you know what I mean. I have one with Spot's name on it.

I even thought when dog's collars were mentioned that maybe Blue needs an Albright's collar.

And last night I started telling my friend (Harvey's other mom) about the shopping and then she got all excited and gave me her shopping list. Have missed doing the shopping thing at Rolex, but may get to do just a bit this year. Need new half chaps, maybe new paddock boots as well. may end up getting a new helmet (have to check out and see how old mine is now). Can't get too carried away - 1) I don't own a horse at the moment and won't for the foreseeable future (just riding others) and 2) fundage is limited by other activities coming up so I can't go hog wild (bummer).

I'm going to be looking at the Devoucoux Chiberta. Also would like to find a brown Owens helmet for cubbing and beagling.

Other than that it's just to be on the lookout for bargains. I love the British tent and usually buy something from Alexander James. I've bought four hunt coats from them already at Rolex and a tattersall vest.

Last year I splurged and bought the Dubarry's so I'll be wearing them proudly this year.

I'll also be looking for various tack to fit my pony who refuses to grow up and be a horse and fit any of my other tack even though she's 14.3. She's got the smallest head in the world.

Look for me on Saturday Outriding on XC. I'm on a dark brown overo paint horse with a bald face and one blue eye.

As you know I am Robby, He Who Overshops. I routinely go to my horse trailer, though I have no horse, and take inventory. I always leave going, "God I need a horse so I can use all of my shizz."

This year I vow, again, to not be seduced by the temptress that is the saddle pad. I don't know why I need 30 of them. I just do. Interestingly enough, I also have more underwear and socks than most normal people. I guess that's related?

I'm just hitting up the leather halter/nameplate vendor too. I'm excited to be shopping for a few ponies.

Can't wait to see everyone. I'm really excited about Kentucky this year!

That would be great, I need one for my saddle.

We've added stirrup leathers and a decent show bridle to the list. And two saddle pads and t-shirts for some girls at the barn. Then theres the usual schooling breeches, maybe some paddock boots (mine are about 10 years old!)

So what did you buy!! I ended up with items not on my list :D (my bad) but I just had to have them.

FITS Riding shirt
Breeches from Tropical Rider (from their seconds bins)
Halter from Albright's for the new guy
Rolex Polo shirts for the hubby
No Slip Pads for a friend
Jewelry from Two Chicks (what can I say!)

The halter and pads were the only items on my list. Was looking for a schooling dressage bridle then came up with the idea to tear apart a double bridle and use it with the addition of a flash converter! I have to say that the new Nunn Finer Bridles at BOB are really nice for the money. Tried on some Arista Vests but couldn't bring myself to make a purchase (on Xmas wishlist)

I got a Thinline Saddle Fitter pad that did *exactly* what I needed it to do, some ballistic overreach boots (sounds sooo much fancier than "bell boots"), Rolex t shirts for me, my 3 boys, and a friend's daughter, Rolex sweatshirt for my son who got cold on Saturday, a fun keychain, two cool pink and green polka dotted travel mugs, Dark Horse chocolates (my son doesn't think he's at Rolex until he's had his Peppermint Ponies), and my best bargain of the weekend, a leather Thinline girth for only $40!

I dropped a fair chunk of change at Liquor Barn, too! LOL!

If only I'd had my "economic stimulus" check before Rolex...sigh.

That's me!! :D We were actually going to name our farm that, but there were copywright problems, lol.

LOL! I would have forever worshiped you if you had been able to do that!

I didn't find any horsey stuff that I wanted bad enough to lug back to Texas with me, but I did wind up with a Rolex hat, a Rolex long sleeved T, a Rolex T, a Rolex windbreaker, and a Rolex winter coat... as well as other Rolex apparel as gifts. I went a little crazy when all the stuff was 50% off and then 75% off. :)

I got a lot of what was on my list.

French link D ring bit
Dressage saddle pad
Another Rolex had to replace the one the border collie ate (she loves to take off the top button things!!)
Bobby's reins- but they don't fit :(. Who knew that one really *does* need warmblood length reins!
Rolex sweatshirt
Rolex sleeveless polo (1/2 off :))
Harry Hall winter breeches for $25 (a friend designated these the "Rolex deal of the year")
Thinline pad
Albrights halter with nameplate for the new guy
