Hey all, just wondering who everyone was planning on breeding to this spring (2008) for 2009 babies?

Include:
-Sport/Market (ie. hunter, dressage, etc.)
-Mare's breeding & other pertinent info (ie. height, colour)
-Choice stallion (or stallionS if you haven't decided yet!)
-Stallion's breeding
-Reason for match

I'd love to see what combinations everyone is putting together this year! Hee hee, playing Cupid is so much fun! :p

All of our ponies are geared for the pony hunter market, so that's what we try and produce.

We are excited to be breeding our Dutch Warmblood/TB (Art Deco breeding) to Alvesta Picasso. She is a 16.0 1/2 HH dark bay Rabicano with a wonderful hunter step and lovely, lovely personality. She was previously a Children's/Adult Amateur Hunter on the US East Coast. Picasso is a 12.2 1/4 HH Grey Section B Welsh stallion who has produced successful pony hunters in the US and has been on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sire List for five consecutive years. Picasso tends to throw lots of white so we're hoping for some chrome!

We'll also be breeding Picasso to our Palomino (turned grey) Sabino Section B mare who stands 13.1 1/2 HH and is by the imported stallion *Rosedale Royal Flare (also has successful hunter offsrping competing in the States). This will be the six foal out of this mare and by Picasso and has always been a tried and true cross - normally producing a dilute colored foal with four white socks and full blaze and each one of ours has been a Champion in the ring and super pony hunter prospect. We're hoping for a filly this year, but this cross tends to throw colts. The foal will be a full brother in blood to Jumpin' Jack Flash and Glannant Jackpot who are both competing successfully on the US East Coast Hunter Circuit.

We also have a brand new sport pony stallion arriving at the end of March that we are extremely excited about!! But, will be keeping the lid on if for now as we're not quite sure if we'll be doing any breeding this year due to concentrating on showing and being too busy for us to do both. :D

The first photo is the Section B mare, second photo is the Dutch Warmblood/TB mare and the last photo is Section B Welsh Pony Hunter stallion Alvesta Picasso.

OHHHH thats sneaky!!!!

As for myself, I have two pony mares and we breed for the hunter market as well. The one I will be breeding the other I am not (deserves time off)...Ugh, too many and yet too little select in the stallion market for what I am looking for. This thread will be good for suggestions.

We have no mares, just the stallion, so we plan to continue on , training and competing in between breeding. We are very lucky that he has the mind to handle the tranisitions.

Hot Shot just left again for our trainer's today as we are prepping ( hopefully) for some of the FEI 5 y.o. young horse competitions ( yes, showing against the horses since he is 14.3) and enough of the Adult Amateur Jumpers to qualify for the Zone 2 finals since he has such tremendous scope.

We have nine foals due, five foals in April...Once we have got thru April then we can focus on stallion choice for breeding mares for 2009.

Daventry--is your sport pony stallion arriving the end of March--from Florida?
I knew of a cute little fellow down there that I had my eye on--but was told he was going north. Wondering if he is the same?

---First Chime Libby ( by Glenmure Liberty Bell) grey open, 13.2 will be bred to Empire's Power

We also do hunter ponies -primarily Welsh Sec. Bs and a few half-Welsh. This year we have 4 Sec. B mares due to foal - one by Pennwood Gwr Bonheddig and the other three by Land's End Adagio. For 2009 the plans are as follows:

Benlea Pandora (Benlea Rambler X Findeln Siren) full sister to Pony Dot Com - 13hh Sec. B - will be bred to Sandy Holbrook's gorgeous boy, Sugarbrook Blue Pacific

Tide Creek Jack Q Lynn (Tide Creek Jack Frost X Flying Diamond Antique Lace) 13hh Sec. B Cremello - hoping to breed to Robin Greenwood's BRP, Romany River Talisman

Hillcrest Silkscreen (Gayfields Vida Blue X Hillcrests Portrait) - 13hh Sec. B - to be bred back to Land's End Adagio

High Hopes Rainier (Morton's Best Man X Beaumaris Skylark) - 13.3hh Sec. B - to be bred to Land's End Adagio

Beaumaris Fantasia (Maranatha Tapestry X Beaumaris Melody) - 13.2hh Sec. B - to be bred back to Land's End Adagio

Quicksilver Butterfly (Morton's Best Man X Benlea Minuet) - 12.2hh Sec. B - to be bred to Land's End Rondo

Land's End Festival (Carolinas Red Fox X Llanarth Gala) - 12.2hh Sec. B - to be bred to Quicksilver Rain Dance (Hidden Creek's Rain Fox X Benlea Minuet)

Gayfields Magic Wanda (Sleight of Hand X Peppermint Miss Muffett) - 12.3 Sec. B - to be bred to Land's End Adagio

All of the above should be good sized mediums except for the one by Land's End Rondo, which should be a top of the line small. I look forward to seeing everyone else's plans, and good luck with upcoming foalings and breedings!

Neat! Would love if you can help track some of her babies. I found one on equine.com & it is very cute. I think her 07 foal was sold at auction yesterday? or went? not for sure on that. Would love to know of the others.

The mare is adorable! Kristin(oldest daughter) went to buy her for us as I was swamped last week dealing with a 99 Sundowner that would not pass inspection. (New Hawk trailer on order) Thank goodness for COTH & that I happend to be up late one night and see the thread on Sundowner Trailers and went asap to get mine checked.

I am super excited about 2009 and we will be breeding four mares...the most yet for our little farm. It is a super exciting line-up too with some fabulous stallions and mares I have been waiting to breed since they were babies!

Magnolia x FS Don't Worry
-Maggie is our first homebred. She will be 4 in June and has had a tremendous first year under saddle. She is about 13.2 and by Makuba out of our wonderful foundation mare Courtash Kotton Kandy. Maggie will be presented Weser-Ems for her mare inspection and was a premium foal. Don't Worry barely needs introduction...commonly referred to as the "Donnerhall of ponies" he is one of the top GRP stallions ever. Why do I think it will be a good cross...Don't Worry has alot to offer in movement, dressage success, etc...but he is oversize and a bit baroque in style...Maggie is very beautiful with great pony type...but could use a bit more size and substance.

Courtash Kotton Kandy x Chardonnay
-Our foundation mare, "Autumn" has produced three premium Weser-Ems foals by three different stallions. She is 13.3hh and has fabulous Welsh and TB bloodlines. I know this mare well and she crosses well with many types...but I think she will be a fabulous cross with Chardonnay becasue of his great pony charachter and type and a closer crossing back to some great Welsh lines. Chardonnay is a very well proven pony is sport and is currently competing PSG in Cal. www.ponychardonnay.com

Chanel x Voyager
-Chanel was purchased from Highlife Farm as a weanling. She is a simply beautiful, little mare. Black, dainty, very feminine, stunning head. Stands a bit over 13hh now...expect to mature 13.2hh or a bit under. Some of my favorite GRP bloodlines..her sire, Bodyguard, is a Black Boy son. Her dam, an award winning show jumper, is a Viktoria Chirac daughter (Constantin). Voyager is an exciting stallion Judy Yancey is selling frozen from this year. 3 x Bundeschampionate winner in dressage and eventing. I think he will complement Chanel by adding some size and substance...whiule complementing her talent for dressage and jumping. It will also add some completely new bloodlines to our breeding program.

Last but not least...I am trying my hand at an F1 cross. After many years searching for the perfect WB mare to lease...I want to thank COTH's own Nootka for her fabulous mare.

Nootka x Werdelei Mardi Gras
-Nootka is a 16hh palamino WB that offers excellent conformation, movement, size and color as well as the sweetest disposition! Mardi Gras ofers the same in much smaller size proportions. I think it is going to be a match made in heaven. The foal will be registered Weser-Ems.

So, 2007-2008 was a heartbreaking year for our farm and we have had to do some rebuilding. 2009 looks to be sensational...lets hope fertility and FedEx are on our side;)

How is the sport pony breeding and selling market overall?

Same, better or worse than the sport horse market?

I'm dipping my toes for the first time

I am breeding Glenhill Farm's Truly Painted (xx) to Miracle Welsh's Section A stallion Gallimaufrey Jaguar for a large jumping machine:cool:

Daphne is a petite, feminine, refined and stunningly pretty sabino mare (with Bend Or and birdcatcher spots:eek:), who screams 'hunter'. Jaguar has bloodlines that I have coveted for a long time and he jumps like a cat :D

And I get to name the foal after a Kipling 'Just So' character..... so even if it is a girl, it'll be called 'Rodney' (Painted Jaguar!):lol::lol:)

A Welsh A: Maxwell Maerling: By Maxwell Town Myles out of Maxwell Town May Song - so classic line bred.

Known as Milly to her friends - and she has loads - her fan club is extensive and consists of all ages as they've grown up with her! Known as "the little sh**" to me and my staff or "It" for short when there's children about.

Its SERIOUSLY cute. At 12.2 hands, It's the wrong height for its attitude. Its ability ranges from: goes like the clappers to so laid back its asleep! She's won breed classes as prestigious shows and including the Royal Highland and The Welsh. It hunts, eats, jumps, eats, races, eats, follows me everywhere, eats, does pony club mounted games, eats, Oh and of course it drives.... and eats! .

She is a great confidence giver and has brought on a lot of young riders. She is always impecible when they're very young or nervous and as soon as they get to the stage of being cocky or over-confident she times being naughty to perfection. She's an awesome jump but can be inclined to give children 3 opportunities to fall off: she approaches and almost hesitates in front (1), then does an enormous cat leap (2) and then virtually stops on the land (3) before speeding off to do the next.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/classic-carriages/milly/raceon.jpg
It loves going out for a yeeee haaa race with the grooms and that's when she goes like the clappers and totally misbehaves!
I've owned her 12 years and she's 13

Pendock Masterpiece (section B)
Rosedale Elinvar (section B)

And now the best one is still to come! :)

Our 2008 plans include;

2008 foal out of our Premium Mare *Glenormiston Amelia sired by Wildwych Eclipse (G. Flurry Knox/Aran Milano/ES Oxenholm Gideon) due April. This will be Amelia’s third foal for us by three different stallions and her first by Eclipse.

Amelia is the daughter of the legendary Australian Show Jumper/Eventer Domo Cavallo Praise out of States Level Champion Mare Glenormiston Clementine (Abbeyliex Finbar/Oxenholm Godot/Killyreagh Kim). Amelia will go back in foal to Eclipse for 2009. Our goal as always is to produce versatile athletes with correct conformation and large ground covering strides that are typical of our breed. More importantly we *strive* to produce ponies with outstanding tractable temperaments that are as beautiful on the outside as inside.

EM Palladia (Palladium/Destiny/Diamont) 15.3 HH Line Back Bay currently open will go to R. Cracker Jack (*Glenormiston BIllies Bay x PM *Glenormiston Amelia). Palladia is an Elite mare with the American Hanoverian Society who was both a foal site champion and won her Performance test with a score placing her at #4 in the US and top 10% of mares internationally in the year she was tested. This will be her third foal for us and her first by Jack. Jack is the son of the Australian Import *Glenormiston Billies Bay who is very successfully competing at 1st level with his Adult Amateur rider and will likely debut at 2nd level this season.

3yr Old Maiden *CH Taylor Maide is currently getting started under saddle and appears to want to follow her mother into the Dressage ring. Taylor is the daughter of FEI Pony Dressage Champion *Eastlands Glendearg (Scotland) who appeared on Dressage Daily for her Championship Seasons in 2001 2002 (All Ont. Res. Champion FEI Pony Dressage 2002 All Ont. Res. Champion FEI Pony Freestyle, Dressage 2002 Eastern Ont. Res. Champion FEI Pony Dressage 2002 Eastern Ont. Res. Champion FEI Pony Freeystle, Dressage 2002 Res. Champion at FEI Dressage Championship of Americas, Blainville, Canada 2002 Received ACPS "Pony of the Year Award", 2001 recieved ACPS Gold Medalllion.....and many more Champion Titles.) We are very excited to say that Eastie herself due to Wildwych Eclipse for ’08 and for this reason we may wait and decide which of our stallions to put Taylor too for her first foal. For now we are very excited about her progress under saddle. She is a beautiful buckskin going grey with black points who stands 14.1 ¾. We also have hopes of taking her through inspection this season.

Dalriada

We have only one foal due this year: Rocko's Gold X Shades of Spring+

This will be the second foal by Rocko for Spring, her first is a buckskin, branded First Premium ASPR gelding. She is First Premium ASPR and has had 2 other First Premium and 1 First Premium Premier foals (by *Stockham Commander M and Xceptshahn).

Not sure yet who she will be bred to - we've got some inquiries out with stallion owners. Contemplating going back to Rocko's Gold, *Stockham Commander M or trying someone new.

Due to the loss of my just pregnant, endurance First Premium ASPR mare last summer, I'm going to be using up that breeding on my Hackney Horse mare - I'm switching stallions with permission of the stallion owner. I can't wait for my *Rhoson Pasiant foal out of her.

I'm still looking for the perfect, well-under 14.2hh registered purebred Arabian mare to free lease to cross with *Rosedale Top Cat for that lost foal.

Our sport market spans Pony Hunter/Driving, Eventing and Dressage - we channel each pony where they are individually suited. Our oldest 2 were backed in the fall and will be finished this spring. The oldest, being retained by us, will be a Dressage and lower level Hunter. The next is definitely Pony Hunter or Driving with her rounder body and long, low sweeping stride - plus she naturally loves jumping. The third is looking like he will do Eventing or Dressage. The fourth is a small Medium that has yet to show us her potential end market but we will see that this summer as she is now a Yrlg.

With Shades of Spring+ we need to improve substance, withers and stride length - hence why we cross her with Sect B Welsh. She's a 14.1hh Half-Arabian (NSH), National Champion Jumper, so we have to watch heights on stallions as well to ensure that we get pony. Mind you her first foal was by a 15.1hh stallion and we got 14.1 with shoes.

My Hackney Horse mare (15.1hh) tends to throw big, replicas of the stallion and Pasiant tends to keep his offspring smaller than mare height so I'm willing to take a chance at keeping the foal under 14.2. I don't have to look at improving anything conformation-wise as she has crossed with 8 stallions for 9 foals and all have been replicas of the stallion, so a conformationally correct pony stallion is the only requirement.

I will play.

The only choice I have firmly made so far is to breed my Apricot Hill (Welsh Hills/Revelie) to Quicksilvers pure bred welsh Lands End Adagio. She has had seven foals so far and I thought it would be fun to outbreed her this year. I am very excited to be breeding to this lovely stallion.
When my customers at the farm decide who to breed to after their mares foal (all in foal to my boys) I will post that.

Nine more to foal here this year. I have had one born so far. Stormy Weather (VA. Bred mare) by Longacre Spinoff/ Smallwood Shower. Foal by Sugarbrook Blue Pacific.

Bill Schaubs two mares HIGH FASHION and ARABESQUE are due soon.
Mindy Darst has two : JUST A MINUTE and PERSNICKETY.

I expect some fancy babies.

You know, I really don't know what I'm going to do this year. I'm torn between showing her, breeding her, or possibly even just selling her (there's more to this story than I'm willing to share at the moment). But if I do decide to breed her, I assure you, COTH reader/breeders will be the first to know! :D

In the event I decide to breed her though, here are my top stallion choices:
-Ridley (Rotspon x EM Wiccan)
-Halifax (Hasko x Steehorst Love Bird)
-Don't Forget (Don't Worry x SPS Mac Bea)
-Hilken's Black Delight (Branduardi M x Syrah)

 So many choices!!

This year we have two coming:

*Catherine's Pride is in foal to our stallion *The Quietman she's due sometime next month. She will more than likely be bred back to him for next year.

*Fairyhill Queen our new mare is in foal to *Coral Bobby due in June. She produced a lovely palomino (with CHROME!) filly from a previous mating to him so I have fingers crossed for something interesting. Not sure who she'll be bred to for this year, have a couple of options.

*Summer Sun our open mare for this year will be bred to *The Quietman for next year :)

But im debating on wether or not I want to breed my medium
Benlea Sealily

Glendower Prince Charming
(Rotherwood Crown Prince x CC Echo (Findeln Blue Danube mare))

Anyways heres some photos of both just for haha's

Benlea Sealily:

and heres our stallion:

Such a hard decision though. I barely have time for myself right now-nevermind raising a foal. So if i do plan to breed (i need to hurry up and decide) then the foal is going to be offered for sale as soon as it's weaned.

Well,I bought a 7 year old stallion, a section A . I normally breed my Connemara to my mares but my uncle called from where he was working, and said come see this pony. I went and the price was very low and he was very nice.Drove 900km that day to pick him up. I'll breed him to my larger mares and hope I have the patience to wait till next year. He is a dapple grey and has the nicest eye. Never was with a male horse before but he is now as I don't separate my boys and he took to it like a duck to water. It shows his temperment. I will only breed a few mares this year so maybe 4 foals for next year.

It looks like Zauberelle will be foaling soon with her fourth Wicked Courtjester foal. Yesterday she was dripping, this morning she had clearly been dripping throughout the night and now is heavily waxed...so I'm thinking its going to happen soon. Her due date is April 1st.

Its sooo cute right now...we have Zauberelle and her two daughter Winslette and Wicked Z all in the barn getting ready for foaling and all three mares look so much alike. When my Vet came recently to due pre foaling shots..as he was working down the line he says...this one looks just like the one I did before and then he says hmmm this one looks just like the other two!

Awww, Lesley...that sounds very special. Remind us who the girls are bred to. I am a big Zauberelle fan after having seen her daughter Waverly in Florida. I am sure her other two daughters are just as special. Wishing you a safe foaling on all the special girls;)

I myself am crossing my fingers that the wonderful WB mare I am leasing is in foal to Mardi Gras...I'll find out in about 9 days. I am gearing up to breed my foundation mare in about 10 days to the GRP pony Chardonnay...and then on to my two young mares I am going to try with frozen semen. Crossing my fingers for a fertile year.

Heather..Zauberelle is back in foal to Wicked. Wicked Zee is in foal to Mardi Gras and Winslette is having her first foal and is sired by Forrest Flame.
This will be really interesting as Zauberelle had a very handsome Mardi Gras colt named Zenith in 2006, Wicked Z had a filly by Forrest Flame in 2007 which turned out to be really lovely and a Premium Foal...so as I said...this will be really interesting to see what her full sister will have with Forrest and what Zee will have with Mardi...I hope that all makes sense..even I have difficulties keeping it all straight...good job I write everything down these days!

Still haven't decided on who to breed to whom for 2009. Actually, I'm a little over whelmed right now...watching five mares all due between the dates of April 1st and 14th...yikes.

Good luck with your breeding plans...hope all goes well.

Have any of the new babies arrived yet????? Im getting so excited for ours!

Fingers crossed for healthy, happy moms and babies!!!!

Our Amelia has been a fabulous and consistent producer of lovely atheltic quality foals. This will be her sixth foal and first by Eclipse (four fillies and one colt thus far)....I think they get better every year...fingers crossed!

Clio (Castle Baron), Jadis (G. Flurry Knox), Whiskey bay filly on right (G. Billies Bay), Jack (G. Billies Bay) and Ole (Gunsmoke).

I have a 3/4 welsh due any day now. By Silver Snaffles Lady Chaser (Halcyon Sir Lancelot's son) out of Silver Snaffles Kristamint. If this cross is nice I am planning on breeding back to him. He is an absolutely adoreable son of Halcyon Sir Lancelot. Other then that, I'm not sure if I'll put any of my small tb mares to him. We swap breeding the small tb mares to welsh ponies or to our Cleveland Bay Sporthorse.

Well, we had another one sometime between 11 p.m. Sunday night and 7 a.m. Monday morning. Another colt, out of Wicked Z and sired by Gretchen's Mardi Gras and its a palamino!!!

I've been so busy watching the three that are due April 1st and those three are in the stalls with the cameras..Wicked Z was waiting for a camera stall to free up so we could move her.
I thought I had a bit of time yet as she wasn't due til April 8th... but clearly she had other plans.

So this morning when I went down to feed and turn out there in the stall with Zee is this gorgeous little guy that has already got the nickname of snowball.

Well, I was waiting to post my plans until they were a bit more definite, but the word today is pretty much a go.

I'm going to lease The Colonel for the fall and will probably breed all but one of my mares to him, including Teddy's dam (she has a lovely 2006 by The Colonel already). And I may breed his full sister Cat, if she doesn't catch from the one dose of frozen I have left from last year. Oh, and it looks like the nasty pony--who is actually turning into a superstar under saddle and has never caused anybody any problems at all, oddly enough--will be bred to Kevvie when the time is right. My goal? To have a field full of cute heads and CHROME next year. One picture of 'em all out in a field together and, the economy allowing, they should sell like hotcakes (er, mebbe).

Congratulations Lesley - lucky you - a palomino!!

We have 2 pony mares bred to our stallion Popeye - both are due in mid-May. Popeye's first foal - a filly was born week before last. Lucky Sheila O'Keefe has this lovely Piccolina - a bay filly out of her mare Eleganz.

We also have 2 SPS Westfalen GRP mares due in late May - Poetin (by Piccolo) is in foal to Die Feine Lord. Die Feine Lady (by Die Feine Lord) is in foal to Chantre B.

We plan to breed 3 of the mares back to Popeye and Poetin will be bred to Stibby Me. Another 3 yo pony mare will also be bred to Popeye.

I am only breeding 2 for myself this year to my stallion. There is alot of construction going on here this year, so need to focus on that and finishing my small training event course on the farm. Not to mention there are some that need to be trained...the list is endless<sigh>Good news is, The Colonel will be putting on his sunglasses, packing up his sunscreen and going to spend some time w/Pwynn down in sunny Fla.!! Lucky him!! Gives me a great excuse to visit!

Thanks guys. I think she's really special. She was doing one tempis for me the other day with an incredibly elegant, light, uphill canter. She should stay around 148cm, too. Eleganz is only about 15.1h or maybe a touch more and Popeye is 14.1 1/2h

This was my first crop of Telynau Falcons foals and I ended up with 4 colts!
3 out of my warmblood hunter mares, and one full welsh. All of them look to be very fancy hunter types and I am so excited about them!

For next year I have so far:

Censation WH (Cabalito/Toy Story) bred back to Falcon
Gandina WH bred back to Cabalito (not a pony but I'll include her!)
Carol-D Silver Princess (section B welsh) bred to Cabalito

l lost one of my best mares this year that I was going to breed back to Falcon, and I am still looking for a replacement for her, as I would love to have at least 2 Falcon babies next year!
they are too much fun!

I did just update my website also and have tons of new pictures of Falcon and my 2008 foals up on there.
