It is with great sadness I tell the COTH members of the passing of another great pony. Private Collection (Green Valleys April Velvet/ Cusop Sparklet) passed over very quickly this am after a minor upset Fri night. She was up and about, drinking, and in no discomfort this AM. Within two minutes she was gone. At age 33 every day was a good day with "Velvet". She is the dam of our Blue Who, and had him at age 24 as a maiden mare.
Velvet had quite a show career. Sold to the Kennedy sisters who rode with Bill Schaub, she was shown for some years, and then passed on to Molly McDonald who had her for another five years. She went up north and returned to be sold to Jenny Kearney for her little daughter, Jennifer. Another show career started for Velvet and she was a star. From what I am told, she was considered one of the best movers in the country in her show days. She still could "Win The Hack" in the pasture at feeding time!! She spent the next 11 years retired at Sugarbrook. Anyone who would like to see this grand dam, can view her at www.Sugarbrook.com.
I know I should be celebrating her life today, but its hard to do. I am very very sad.
She will be buried in the pasture where her son "Hootie" lives.

My sincere condolences for the loss of this wonderful mare. However, what struck me is her longevity. What a joy to have them for so long. RIP Velvet.

33 years of a good life is to be celebrated as passing on. She was loved and I'm sure that she always knew that.
Private Collection is my all time favorite Estee Lauder perfume! So she must have been exquisite.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. It made my day easier.
She is now laid to rest and my mind is at ease knowing the passing was quick, easy and she looked the picture of health even in death. The emails and phone calls have been amazing.
