My son sent them a photo to be critiqued and they published it! We are tickled!
Our mare is the white Appy, the second critique after the Arab. Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg gave my son some wonderful advice. Lots to work on.
The article says the rider is a "She" but that's my son on the mare. They both showed Second Level last year and are planning to show Third Level this year. Not to shabby!

Wow! Can't wait to see it and read the commentary! Since I've seen the pair riding, it would be very interesting to see how much can be figured out from a picture.

Unfortunately, DT usually comes very late to my place.

I saw it! Congrats : )

Yes, some good advice indeed. Personally, I found his critiques muuuuch more useful than Ms. Wilcox's.

Nice, had to grab the issue and look at it.

They look good together!

Veeery cool! And I agree with what InsideLeg said about enjoying his critique more than LW's. I got SO sick of her turnout narrowmindedness. If you're showing in a schooling show why does everything have to be "traditional" instead of what the rule book says?? "Of a conservative color" does not mean only white!

Anyway, very cute pair!

Nice mare!

I seem to like his critiques better as well. He tries to focus more on the feel of the picture, like any tension, weakness, etc. Lisa Wilcox always wrote so much about turnout and proper fit of the bridle, that I never seemed to get any real useful info out of it.

Thanks for the replys! The good news is..she has calmed down a lot in the ring and it was lunging before her class that did it. We also do a shorter warm up with her so she doesn't get riled up.

Congratulations :) I don't get that one, but will be sure to check it out next time I'm at the tack store.

I saw your picture and what a cute pair! I was so glad to read some really good constructive comments unlike the LW comments on turnout and tack fit that was the same every single issue. I think having Mr. Kottas critique is going to be a good thing for DT.

If you didn't get a chance, read the comments he had about the Arab....he was complimentary about all breeds doing dressage and not just the fancy WB's. Very refreshing.

Did anyone notice the better balance of information for lower-level and upper level riders in this issue?

I did, and I thought the whole issue was great. I was thinking about not renewing my subscription when it comes due in a couple of months, but if the next few issues are this good, I'll have to rethink that.

To the OP, your son and his horse make a lovely pair.

How cool!
You and your son should have your Appy mare in the ACAAP program put on by the Appaloosa Club... http://www.appaloosa.com/show/acaap.htm

And thenn write to the editor of the Appaloosa Journal and they will feature you in "Field Notes" for getting your Appy out and about in open competition

CosMonster--

I had the exact same thought on not renewing this year! I have been so frustrated with DT and all of the "upper" level show gossip. I wasn't getting anything useful out of the magazine. I'm going to see how the next couple of issues look and then make a decision about renewing. Hopefully, they will keep the same balance going and it will once again be a good training tool for those of us not showing at GP.

Appy trails!!! So cute!
I emailed the club. Thank you so much for suggesting it. We are so proud of her. She really was a sows ear when we got her and now she's a silk purse! If you can figure out how to harness the Appy trait...there's no stopping them.

I got my issue last night, and first thing I did was look for the pic! Both son and horse are adorable.

Ribbon took the words out of my mouth! ADORABLE!!!! You go! Kottas wrote a wonderful critique for everyone IMHO. I had to laugh, he told everyone to hold the reins in the same place. "One thumb over the withers", he has it on his clipboard to copy and paste in each critique. :)

We award the 'Appy Of The Month' to you!
