Does anyone feed this feed? I am interested in learning more about it.

I hve to admit to being a bit mystified when looking at the values. I pulled up the nutrena safe choice info and it looked to be roughly the same.

I just found this post in a search ....

The FIRST ingredient in this feed is:

PROCESSED GRAIN BY-PRODUCTS.

I insist that ALL of my animals are not fed ANY by-products (barn cats included). I do this because in my travels in american industry, I learned that By-products can be swept up as a spill off of a FLOOR and put in to the feed.

That is how companies deal with their WASTE. By making we FOOLS buy it from them.

Worse ... their LOW NSC feed also contains MOLASSES ... and smells like the old style SWEET feed we used to use in the mid-80's before I.R. type diseases were much heard of. I'd say BYPASS THAT ONE! :o:mad:

As if all of this is bad enough, the feed is not a lot less expensive than much HIGHER quality feeds (Buckeye, etc.). So, it looks like you are paying for a pretty bag, least from what I can tell.

Does anyone know their NSC content with that molasses included?

Hi Cosmosmariner. I'm in contact with reps from a bunch of different feed companies, trying to decide which feed I want to pick including Hubbard. I'll ask the rep about magnum's concerns with their feed and let you know. My local feed store sells Front Runner and Buckeye. They say they are very comparable and Front Runner has stayed more consistent in price.

Bumping this up to see if anyone's gathered more info on this feed. I have emailed the company to ask for the NSC and calories per pound.

Molasses is not necessarily a deal killer for me. Triple Crown Senior has molasses in it, yet it's got a sub-16% NSC because it doesn't have any of the other "bad stuff".

Regarding "processed grain by-products", this article is helpful to those who run screaming from the word "products": http://www.thewayofhorses.com/feed_tag_seven.html

Still doesn't make me crazy about "processed grain by-products" but look at the main ingredients in the more expensive alternatives: soybean hulls, wheat middlings, etc. Just a slightly more PC way to say "grain by-products".

I loff Buckeye Safe n' Easy, but in my neck of the woods, Cool Command is dramatically cheaper. The feed store guy, who has a wide selection of more expensive products, said he's got a lot of customers switching to Cool Command and liking it.

I know I'm talking to myself on this thread, but I'm sure some future soul will have the same questions, so here's another update.

I emailed the company and they say it's 1200 kcal/lb and "less than 15% NSC".
