Guilty----any stories? LOL Need stories!!!
I have had a couple of times. By the way, I'm talking FUN times--not putting anyone's life in danger or nasty drunkidness (sp).
TO ALL CONCERNED
I'm NOT promoting alcohol consumption, I'm NOT a professional with the amount that someone consumes or how it effects them, When using "WE" when I type, I'm talking about ME and the people that I KNOW personally, such as immed. family and friends, I'm not an alcoholic, I don't believe that you should drink till "drunkedness", I brought this up because of a fun memory that made me giggle one afternoon and thought others might have some LIGHT stories of some fun times, I don't believe in horse abuse, I don't --wait....going over board.

OMG!!
Once was riding (was single then) with a cutie putitie (sp) and He insisted on bringing beer. Well, I had one of those fake hair attachments to give the look of long hair. About 3 hours into the ride, I was WASTED!!!! I start to giggle and every thing EVERYTHING is FUNNY at this point. Well, I look ahead to the young man as the trail got pretty narrow and he was holding his beer in his left hand. All the sudden his horse takes off!! So, mine does too! It was through this wash with low hanging branches. Well, I'm busting a gut laughing sooooooooooooo hard because I was watching him lean totally to the left, with his beer as a balancing tool! LOL BUSTING talking about it. Then a he regains his seat, to have to duck for a branch, he ducks, weaves, still holding his beer perfect, I was laughing so hard that my bra broke?? Yep, it was one of those lacy numbers, it just pops! Well, that was amuzing and I could hardly take it, then not able to breath, I almost whack the branch that I saw him duck and weave---but it catchs my sexy hair piece!!! LOL I had to yell to stop and gather up my hair. lol We both just had a blast---laughed about it the whole rest of the way home.

I might possibly be convinced to admit to a certain episode involving a few bottles of wine and a round of bareback broomstick polo. 0:-). I had some interesting bruises the next day.

I'm just lurking buuuttt.. bareback broomstick polo? sounds like fun.. but then again I'm the wild child that chained a lawn mower to a fourwheeler and managed to flip it at 35+ mph and break no bones

I'm interrested in bareback broomstick polo also!! I usually ride first, wine later... seems to be a nightly affair in the cold:yes: A few weeks ago I planned on just turning my guy out in the indoor for a while to give him the night off, and ended up (3 shared bottles later) bareback with no halter or anything:winkgrin: I stayed on miraculously and the pony just shook his head at his crazy mommy

Not ME getting drunk on horseback, but I once went on a very fun "winery trail ride" where you brought your own horse and we rode as a big group from winery to winery, and tied our horses outside while we went in. I remember the people at Wente telling us to tie our horses to the rows of vines, but not to let them eat them. Yeah, right. OK, horsie--don't eat the big green, tasty plant in front of you while I'm gone. Good boy! I think we went to four different wineries, with tastings at each. One of them had a big basket of carrots set out for the horses. Some people tasted a little too much, apparently, because the ride back after the last winery was ... interesting. Lots of semi-in-control-riders on semi-in-control-horses. *rolling eyes*
I've also enjoyed a little peppermint schnapps on full-moon trail rides in the winter, but I'm not much of a drinker anyway, and I'm a lightweight on top of that.
One of my horses is extremely enthusiastic about beer, though, and will drink it from the bottle.

Broomstick polo is great fun :D. We play sort of low key... bareback with halters or hackamores and at low speed (if you ever sat on my spiney TB bareback you would understand, lol). Anyway, you take brooms and a beach ball. Set up cones or something on each end of the arena or field. Then you have to sweep the ball in to the goal. It is much harder than it sounds, because beach balls do not always cooperate ;)
P.S. the first time I played this, I was 12... alcohol is not necessary ;). I was also the kid jousting with my dressage whip 0:-)

The closest I come is buzzy chores... when I've had one too many (which, sadly, usually means TWO these days since I'm poor *and* live on a farm, so it's a rare occasion... at any rate... ) and head out for night mash.
But I also learned the very, very hard way that guiding Dudes on trailrides for 7 or 8 hours is best done WITHOUT the hangover. One and only one time in my life I was hung over. It was TORTURE. My stomach churns and head aches just remembering. UG. (and in retrospect, I'm sure the Director knew, because I was assigned Skippy that day. A very big, very kind, but gaits-like-a-jackhammer buckskin gelding. )
The one that does make me almost cry though, was my first Combined Event since childhood. Pintopony and I practiced for months. It was this wonderful kind of coming together where one friend sent up a protective vest just in time-that miraculously fit, we were using a saddle another friend had sent up for the program... just this really amazing thing going on. Was going to be a 4 or 5 hour drive. I was suitably terrified. Not of getting hurt, or anything, mostly that they had fancy, painted jumps and wings and such, and we have interesting but rustic stuff to practice.
The night before was a HOWLING storm. It is mid-October which can be damnably chilly up here--especially because you're not used to it yet. Alarm goes off at 0300. <yawn> I make a big pot of coffee, put it in the big thermos. And since I know I'm going to be there for many, many hours before having to drive home, I throw in some Baileys. And then I throw in some more. I finish packing up everything... taste the java--throw in just a wee bit more. Smells heavenly--though you can pretty much get toasted just SMELLING the coffee.
Last trip out to the truck, pony's already loaded... and I fall down the back porch stairs. Four steps. Flat on my back and hard. Very hard. To the point I was not sure how bad I was hurt. Just the wind knocked out, and I'm SURE I won't be able to move later, but nothing appears broken. I go to pick up the stuff I dropped... including the thermos... and the glass liner had shattered. THEN I cried. All that lovely coffee... ruined.... WAAAAAAHHHHHH.
Now, if I'd thought of it at the time, I might have strained it through a paper towel or coffee filter. Alas.. hindsight.
So that was the drunk that wasn't.
Himself performed admirably. One display of airs in the trailer parking area... after that he was a saint, and we did NOT get eliminated in stadium. It ended up being one of the most fabulous memories of my life.

(p.s. I've lost about 75 lbs since that photo... he was jumping the wings, (obviously) not the crossrails, and I was waaaaay left... and laughing out loud. ;) )

I'm a moderate drinker on the trails... I keep a Nalgene in my horn bags that 1/2 Razz Rum and 1/2 Sprite.... I sip the whole ride... I like a nice relaxing buzz, not stupid and crazy..
I do, on occasion, like to enjoy a few beers on the trail too... Again it's never to extreem and if I feel too happy, I'll stop until I'm more clear headed...
I do agree that the ones that get rowdy drunk and whoop and holler w their horses.. now that's not cool... especially to the horses:no:
I think everything in moderation is the key ;)

I was on a public trail (not an organized ride though), trotting along doing some conditioning. I heard some ruckus behind me, and turned around to see 3 people galloping full out, straight up my hind end. I got off to the side, and kept my horse under control as they galloped past, and around the next bend. What the hell was that??? I picked up the trot again and caught up with them a mile or so later. They were drunk off their arses, each with a beer, being stupid, and trying to get me to race as I walked past them. Judging from their horrible looking horses, very overweight selves, feet shoved through the stirrups, and saddle bags bulging with 6-packs, they were redneck couch jockeys out for an afternoon of drunken fun.
You always have the most interesting stories.
I've been known to have a beer (or two) before going into the show ring. I don't know that it hurt our performance, and it might have helped. I've also had a few with lunch or dinner on multi-day trail rides and then gone out for a spin. Neither my companions nor my horse minded.
Yeah, there was the time my friend and I were being stupid and I rode her horse backwards, in my pjs in the indoor ring until he bucked me off and we laughed till we cried. (no alcohol though)
No excuse either. :D

Having a beer or two isn't the same as getting DRUNK, which is what the OP was talking about. Unless a beer or two means your drunk. ;)

Nope never gotten fall down, getting sick DRUNK on horse back. Although when we are finished with our large group rides 5-10 people/horses we usually cook food, bring food, bring drinks alch/non alch and hang out for 2-3 hours after our 4-5 hour rides...so usually we have the whole day out there and get home pretty late. But NONE of us have ever gotten drunk and gone out and about riding.
One other time I have a good friend who raises show driving perchs. We had been driving all day long on the roads etc. We stopped at a small beach area/boat launch and unharnessed the horse, and then we went swimming with him in the water and he had a blast. Everyone was cooled off re-harrnessed and by that time it was getting dark/dusk. My house was alot closer than my friends house so we picked up a flash light and lantern and I mixed up some cranberry vodkas and hit the road again. This time instead of taking the actual busy roadways home we have a large dirt roadway through the woods large enough for cars to drive through. We enjoyed our small drink and drive in the moonlight home with the lantern and it was great.
But everyone is always responsible, no one ever gets drunk, many dont drink at all. Most of us are retired police officers, or currently working in a police dept so watching our actions, and safety are the most important!

What???
Me "drunk"...2-3 drinks. I'm worse on 2 benydral. (sp) It was no big deal. That night, no dinner and 2 beers---him 4 beers. I was relaxed and super happy.
When I posted this, I thought it would bring up some fun memories from people. I wasn't meaning, "lets get drunk and ride our horse into the barb wire". Geez, I wish people would give others more credit than that. ??? It was a funny moment in my eyes, because of the 10 canter strides and watching him ducking from tree's, but never letting his beer go un level, it cracked me up. Then the following events, it was too funny. I can count on 1 hand the number of times where I have had more than 4 drinks. I can only count 2 times where I have had a buzz on horses. (to make sure I don't give the wrong impression about myself. WAIT, 3, if you count the Vicadan from a back injury.
Here in AZ, we have "Maragrita" rides and poker rides, there is always beer at roping events and seems to be a common trend to bring several beers for a trail ride. I have never even seen anyone get the "whooping" drunk effect on a horse---well, on TV?
PORNO ==nope. He was a cutie that was about 12 years my younger, Yes, thought he was cute, my personality is to talk like that. I think everyone is beautiful---I tend to openly share that--I forget that I can't be myself on a place where things are typed and that people can't see my "personality". Sometimes more things are read into it than is really there. SORRY-- "my bad".
I'm going to change the name of the thread to: Have you ever been "buzzed" on a horse.

LOL... I used to ride out with a group of about 10 Italian guys at Valley Forge Park near where I used to live, and inevitably about 1-2 hours into the ride we'd stop for wine and cheese. Them on their Arabs and QH's riding western, and me on my high-falutin-high-strung TB EEEE-vent mare. VF is awesome for big long stretches to gallop, and we'd see who was faster- the Arab or the TB (Arab at first, then my TB would pass them with her ass on fire and me up there loving every minute!) Then after the wine, when we got back to the main part of hte park I'd entertain everyone by jumping her over all the picnic tables. We all loved it, even my mare!! (not so much the people at the tables!....JK!)
Actually I would have jumped those tables, wine or not... but the wine made a great ride even greater. ;)
Those are some of my favorite memories on horseback. I even have pics, somewhere.

Well, Kit stepped on a ground bee best once...those short little appy legs can really move if they have to...too bad the tree branch got in my way...
I, too have seen the drunken pigs at a couple of the organized trail rides, and the after-ride 'care' they give their horses, as they themselves head off to the end of ride meal.

Trouble - group of barn rats, 17 to 20 years old, guys and gals, at boarding/rental barn surrounded by suburbs in early 70's. We would take the rental horses out at night, in the dark, preferably riding double and play hide n seek and tag while drinking. Anyone old enough to remember Hopingator (sp)? The absolute favorite was to ride to the back of the local drive-in movie, someone would get off to turn on (blast) the last row of speakers and we would sit on the horses getting drunk watching the movie. No arrests, no permanent injuries and no my mother had no idea! Sometimes wish I was 18 again ... Most of that crowd is still in touch with each other although not into horses and all turned into "normal" people.
Thanks for reminding me of good memories!

I like to have a beer or two on the trail, preferably while horse camping. I usually leave camp with a can of beer, and pack a few mixed drinks in my saddle bags for later, since I've discovered that beer is too fizzy to survive a fast ride.
When I return to camp, I like to have a glass or two of wine with dinner. After that I sit around the campfire with my friends, drinking and BSing until the wee hours. It's such a blast -- one of my favorite things in the world. :)
I also have really bad show nerves, so my plan for this summer is to have a Mimosa before my class. :D

my friend got a buzz drinking beers and decided we would ride bareback on our horses at the local barn we boarded at and she fell off her 17.2 saddlebred TB cross at a walk, LOL and she was only 5' herself so it what a hoot,
myself I get a natural buzz when out trail riding through the woods or doing a gallop on power lines or big meadow, it is such a rush
drinking and riding doesnt work and no one should do it because my partner drank some tequila and fell off cantering when I galloped after to stop her and her horse swerved and she fell off and got a concussion and could only speak spanish (she spoke spanish french and english) for two days which really made it hard to take care of her.

One of my "best rides" was after more then a few glasses of wine. It started off by me going to ride at Jean's house were my horse was spending last summer. Well she was on the phone so she handed me a glass of wine next thing I knew we were trying a few other bottles that she asked what I thoguht of and having dinner. Then right as the sun was setting we got on. Rode in the ring jumping right as the sun set and when on a small trailride up to the top of the farm she has to see the moon rise. It was one of the best nights I have even spent on a horse and was the best way to end a stressed out day.
It was the last ride Jean and I when on before she left for FL and what away to go out.

GREAT stories!
BUZZ, a good feeling where you quit before you reach drunkedness. Usually 2-3 drinks. Drunk 4-15+ drinks.
I had a dressage show once and had this horrid back pain. I took a glass of wine and a muscle relaxer. I got some great comments on my riding---(was riding this very bouncy tb-gelding). I thoght about adding this to my "routine" before a class!!
I have had several instructors who drank while giving lessons--while riding. LOL
I had one instructor who, if you fell, the next time you came you had to bring a bottle of wine. :)
Was nice being young--no fear and just plain happiness. Too bad when we get older we have so much "worry" in us that we loose that spirit. GOOD to recapture at times, thus the buzz. :)

Do you have ANY idea how incorrect you are? A person can't possibly assume that even TWO "drinks" is an appropriate amount of alcohol to consume without suffering some level of impairment. And "15+" drinks can kill.

Better riding through chemicals. Yep, that's a good plan. Like training a horse through the use of tranquilizers. Suggest that around this board and people will jump all over you. But what you are saying is the same thing - only it is the human who is getting nuked, not the horse. Well, at least one of you has some brains.

Several? SEVERAL? You are either a crazee magnet, or there is some kind of epidemic of alcoholism in your neck of the woods. Very unprofessional behavior, I might add.

I'm sorry the thrill is gone now that you are "older" - but please don't include me in your "we". You can be assured that not all of us have lost "that spirit" and consequently feel it necessary to recapture our youthful zest for life and riding via a bottle.
Think about it.

Hitch, I'll weigh in in your defense, not that I dont think you cant defend yourself.....
riding while intoxicated makes almost as much sense as driving under the influence. Anyone thinking they are just having fun while consuming (for instance) a beer, then a "couple mixed drinks" then wine and more booze after the ride, is deluding themselves. Thats a drinking problem, right there.
The fact that such a person can "carry their liquor" clinches a clinical diagnosis of alcoholism at the increased tolerance stage.
Eight ounces of beer contains approximately the same amount of alcohol as a shot of liquor. That's EIGHT ounces, so your'e actually imbibing a shot and a half when you down a 12 ounce beer.
Around here, it aint trail ridin unless you and your horse are out with several hundred drunks at once. Lots of people falling off of lots of horses, lots of work for the local life squad. I would add, lots of ruined horses. I own a horse who used to belong to a noted figure in the local trail ride community, the kind of person that cant start out on an all day ride without a 12 pack in the saddlebag cooler. Took me the better part of a year to partially recalibrate her to having a sober rider--she's waaaay too used to being the autopilot and the brains of the operation.....
Anyway, carry on. I hope every blessed one of you enjoying these kinds of antics are what you believe yourselves to be, normal social drinkers who will never ever be alcoholics.

What the heck is going on??????? This is a fun thread---well was supposed to be, I wasn't being speaking from the FACTS, I was exagerating----being "funny". I wasn't adding you???? You added you.
I was being light and not serious. Are you having a bad day that you can not tell the diff??????
Did I claim to be a professional--did I provide scientific facts on alcohol numbers and the effects. NO. I wrote something in response to "buzz" verses "drunkedness". Did I state that 2 drinks didn't "impaire" a person? NO, "buzz". I don't know about numbers, I was exagerating. Usually, with the experiances I had personally, was 2 drinks over 3-4 hour time period. Nobody I rode with, nor me did anything unsafe or put a horse into danger from this action.
Let me make this known----I can count on 2 hands how many times alcohol has ever even touched my lips!! I'm 37! Not that I need to defend myself, but showing that you don't know me. I'm sorry, but, for ME, being young and care free WAS a LOT less stressful than my life today with bills, responsibilities and taking care of family that can't care for themselves. Me looking back to memories where it was nice to be ignorant to the loss of many MANY family members, friends, debt, married life and mean people. I had a moment the other day, thinking about that trail ride and it made me laugh, it was nice to let my brain "go there". I thought to myself, surley others have had similiar times--maybe we can share. I'm not saying that my life today is bad, that I'm not happy, that I'm not full of fun spirit---it was diff. back then. (Speaking from me and the people I know personally---which I will state for now on, so that now one assumes I'm adding them to the "we" meaning the entire world.) We grow, we learn, we do things we shouldn't (as I know, I have never met anyone who has lead a "perfect" "sin free" life.) we get better with age--or we are suppose to.
I wouldn't be opposed to having a drink or two on a slow sunset trail ride. BUT, I can't. If I have one drink, I get sick--same with soda, it kills my stomache. SO, I don't. Do I miss it????????????? NOT ONE SECOND!!!! I was recounting a memory. The events to me were funny.

Not that I need to explain myself, but drinking moderately 3-4 times PER YEAR does not an alcoholic make. In fact, I've never in my life been drunk enough to have a hangover. But go ahead and keep proving that old saying about ASSumptions. ;)

Occaisionally when we are out camping in the boonies with the horses we'll have a drinkin' ride. In all the years and all the riding I've done, I've only been really seriously buzzed on a horse maybe 4-5 times. Those were great rides! :D All of them with my bestest friend and our most perfect trail horses who would get us back to camp safely no matter what we did.
I do believe there is a picture floating around of me riding Shadow backwards on the trail back to camp while rummaging in the saddle bags for another wine cooler. Yep- heavyweight here gets drunk on wine coolers.

I'd be scared to drink and ride. But that's just me. As many funny/painful stories as I have about being drunk on other occasions, you'all'd think I was an alcholic. ;) I'm not sharing any of those stories, since they aren't horse related. But I've got some funny ones.

Good posts hitch and jeano. I'm reading this thread going WTF??? Drunken stories are funny but drunken riding is not funny. But maybe I'm just completely biased against the drunken trail riding that seems to be a "fun sport" in these parts. I don't need liquor to have fun on my horse. And when people who "do" need liquor to have fun on a horse, infringe on my nice trail ride, I get really peed off about it. A drunk rider is about as usless as tits on a boar hog, and believe me, it's NO fun to be on the trail with them.
Every year we do this ride on one of the indian reservations that's about 16 miles long. It's a great ride, with great people. I've never seen any bad behavior on it. But one lady did go gliding past us on a TWH with a beer in her hand. She held up the beer and said "This is why I ride a gaited horse!"
Besides, all that weight flopping around in saddle bags would bug the hell out of me. ;)

Who said anything about "needing" liquor to have fun on a horse? Fun can be had with or without it!

Do you have ANY idea how incorrect you are? A person can't possibly assume that even TWO "drinks" is an appropriate amount of alcohol to consume without suffering some level of impairment. And "15+" drinks can kill... Yada yada yada....
Sounds like SOMEBODY really needs a drink!

I had a great uncle that died from falling off his horse while drunk... (The uncle, not the horse.)
Despite that, I still think this thread is FUNNY!
Lighten up people.

I have never done anything on horseback that I wouldn't do with or without a drink. In fact, I started jumping those picnic tables and having races with my friend LONG before we ever hit on the marvelous idea to start bringing a bottle of wine with us.
There is a big difference between having a glass or two of wine and getting falling-down (falling-off? :D) drunk. In fact, if a glass or two of wine got me falling-down drunk, I would renounce my irish heritage in shame.
So pour me another one!

Same here. Additionally, I do all of my more "dangerous" horse activities sober. Clearly indicative of my flawed character.
A few years ago, my friend and I had a couple beers and practiced doing flips and shoulder rolls off my horse. I wish I could blame the beer, but I've done the same thing sober -- before and since. :D Lots of fun either way.

Talk about self-righteous. Just when you believe you are among friends, a poster on the forum tunes you in. I'm sure the OP was not encouraging drunk driving or riding. I certainly didn't ASSume "buzz" and "drunk" were the same. It's great to abstain but I get the feeling that some of the self-righteous on this board would need a few shots just for people to tolerate THEM. A few suggested they certainly did not require alcohol to have fun. That is not the impression I get. How much fun are YOU?

In my 20's I won a sit a buck class while very drunk. It came down to me and one other girl and we had to go over fences to finally eliminate her.
I feel there are several posters on this thread that need to lighten up and yet I am also shocked to hear about so much drinking going on out on the trails. It has never even crossed my mind to drink and ride. I have done some fox hunting and always have a sip from the stirrup cup and maybe another sip or two from someone's flask during a rest out in the field, but never enough to even get buzzed from it.
Now when I was about 15 I drank way too much the night before when I was out of town for a horse trial. I had to ride cross country early the next morning with my very first hangover. It wasn't fun, but I still got 2nd place and my name in The Chronicle of the Horse!

BTDT. In fact, on no less than three separate occasions while riding with a raging hangover, I won a 3'6" mini-prix, won a training level horse trial, and placed second in a BN horse trial. Not fun, but I hold to the motto "If you're going to play, be prepared to pay!".
As for drinking and driving, it's legal in every state (to a point of course, which will differ for everyone based on body weight, etc).

My dear, and all those others who find me "self-righteous" and "needing a drink" and "no fun", please remember that you have NO IDEA who I am. You have NO IDEA what I have possibly been through in my life. You have NO IDEA if any of us "self righteous" ones may have had their lives disrupted and even torn apart by alcohol. You have NO IDEA what my reasoning might be behind my posts.
Stop and think for just a minute about that, if you please.
If you all think it is just fine and dandy to "drink and ride" then go right ahead. Have a blast. But don't pass judgment on me because I am excusing myself from your party. Believe me, I have my reasons. And I consider myself very fortunate that I don't have to rely on alcohol (or any other supplementals) to have "fun".

Sorry this thread turned out to be so depressing.
I don't think people *need* alcohol, but in real life, it seems to be a part of just about everything social. I think we even had wine at a Bible study once. Everyone had one half of a glass, it was a very very cold day, in a very cold church and one of the girls thought it would be nice, warming idea. Nobody got drunk, it was a 2 1/2 hour bible study. I'm not the wine drinker, but it did warm me a bit.
It also seems that alcoholism IS an epidimic, at least around me. I have several family members who are alcoholics and have several close friends that are. It is sad and it tears familys appart. I would NEVER NEVER Joke about that desease. It is no laughing matter. But, I also don't think that someone who has a drink or two on an occasion, is an alcoholic.
I was in no means trying to promote drinking, just TALKING about social drinking while on a trail ride. I was having memories of this trail ride, which would of been just as much fun with out the "buzz". The same events would of probably happened, because I'm naturally giggly and have a wicked sense of humor. I was more "drunk" on laughing so hard, more than I was anything else. This guy was super funny and really knew how to get me rolling. We had many trail rides that were just as much fun, but none where those particular events happened.
Anyway..... sorry.

Well, I'm guilty. Ended up with a concussion and a hospital stay. It's amazing how dulling your response time can be close to deadly when around big animals.
I think I can say from experience "Don't do it!":eek:

We are all inclined to judge ourself by our ideals, others by their actions.
You do not know me, nor the original poster either. For the record, I have been riding for over 15 years and I have never once gotten on a horse after so much as a sip of alcohol.
By the same token, all three of my brothers suffer from alcoholism. One of whom nearly died in a drunk driving accident when he was 16. Another is only 26 years old and is already suffering from horrible health problems due to his heavy drinking. The disease runs rampant in my family.
That does not mean that I assume everyone that drinks is an irresponsible alcoholic with a death wish.
If you want to have a beer or two and ride your horse then that is your right, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. Believe it or not, there IS a difference between doing that, and riding while completely wasted.
You have blatantly skewed the original poster's intentions with this thread.

I came accross this thread and thought it was pretty fun. I can see everyone's side to this issue. It's just sad that we have to be so guarded in what we say anywhere these days. I feel for the people who have been tragically effected by alcohol, but you have to admit there are some really great memories sometimes that are fun to share. I don't mean to bring up a sore subject, but I am new to this forum and I happened across this topic. I was enjoying the funny stories. I don't know how to articulate what I mean, it's just sad.
Happy Trails, well I guess not too happy....

Too bad so many rotten eggs had to spoil a fun memory for the OP and others with similar experiences. Although, as a former lurker, I suspect that the OP and others who shared have pretty thick skins. Enjoy your fond memories. Good for you!

When I lived in Utah some friends and I went to southern Utah for some riding and camping. While out on one of our trail rides we brought a couple flasks of 100 proof SoCo and passed them around from rider to rider. We got giggly but no one got sloppy drunk...we waited till we got back to camp for that :)

Done this too.
:) After the ride, sitting around the campfire passing the liquer and telling stories! Then, hearing everyone SNORE all night long!! LOL
Fun times. It was a good way to keep warm too! We would cook a cobbler over the fire in one of those case iron things....so much fun!

Never rode a horse drunk. A couple of years ago during a local Christmas parade a drunk rider "lost control of his horse" and ended up on the sidewalk, scattering the crowd. Fortunately no one was hurt. And, fortunately, the people that wanted to ban equestrian units from the parade lost the vote at the next city council meeting.
Oh, the guy was arrested for public intoxication (in this jurisdiction DUI only applies to motorized vehicles).

I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago. I never have but I have heard stories.
Also, not all Foxhunters ride drunk.. LOL.
A sip or two though, from the flask does help with sore legs and the chill in the air. It also can help with the courage dept, in certain instances.

Haha to the OP- For the record, your story made me laugh.
Im not old enough to drink but I have done my fair share of stupid things with horses. Its fun, and most of it really endangers me not the horse. I LIKE to gallop around bareback once in awhile. I like to do stupid shit like get on ponys backwards and have them take me for a trip around the ring. I guess this isent REAALLY stupid but still its questionable in my book haha.
