Hugh sigh of relief -------for now at least. My 18 year old maiden mare that I just acquired, and impulsively bred in September, is still in foal. I only have to cross my fingers for another 7 months, she is due in August. She is technically 3 months and 3 weeks, a little bit early to sex, but my vet tried anyway. He thinks it will be a filly.

Congrats Nancy. I know that sigh of relief. I had an 18 yo mare palpated yesterday (she's at 8 mos), and got good news too!

Congrats-such a relief, I know!
We could have a geriatric broodmare clique; I have a 21 year old that is also due in August and she was just confirmed "still in foal" this week! Still a lot of hope and worry ahead, though.

I'm glad everyone's old girls are still pregnant. I'd like to join the holding my breath club too! My 20 year old has given me a run for my money. This is her last foal, I can't do this again. She has been having problems all through this pregnancy. The latest was a nasty spider bite on her belly, and now a bad reaction to the Pneumabort shot. She is also h-u-g-e for 7 months. So I know she is pregnant, I just hope there is only one, and she doesn't get much bigger.......

My best mare is 20 and her last 5 in a row have all been fillies and lovely lovely fillies too. Would love if she continued her streak but wouldn't mind if she broke it either - her filly from last year is a 'keeper' and not going ANYWHERE :)

I am PRAYING for a filly! I'll be happy as long as it is healthy, but I would love to have a filly from this cross; first to hit the show ring and then to "replace" her dam as a broodmare.

YAY Nancy!!! How exciting!!! :)
Our 1988 mare Emmy is carrying her fourth foal (fingers crossed for a filly) and is ve-ery large right now! She still looks youthful and has maintained her Alpha position out in the momma field. These photos are from late last spring but she is pretty much the same size right now...
The other girls aren't quite as aged as she is ('91, 2 '99s, '97 & '96) but everyone is getting large(r)! :D
I'm crossing everything that I can for all of us to uneventful pregnancies & deliveries...

Thanks Quinn! It's going to be a long, nail biting wait until May.
Cha Cha's in foal to Mezcalero (Voltaire/Ramiro) and I really hope she has a filly. She is such a sweet mare.
Here she is from this week. This is the third foal she's carried herself, but she's had over a dozen babies via embryo transfer.

Congrats to everyone and their "mature" mommies! My mare got bred late and is hopefully still in foal. My mare is only 10 but the stallion she was bred will be 31 this year!! She gets checked again next month. The mares she is turned out with are all still cycling, and mine has not come in, so I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

I think I need to check my girls into the "geriatric brood mare clique." Both my mares are developed in years at 21. I'm afraid that by posting that here I'm gonna jinx them.... I think I'll need to knock on wood till April!!!!
Wish my girlys luck!!!!

I am hoping by posting here it will be good luck, not a jinx!!!
My girl is 22 and currently 162 days. She will be getting checked again the first week in February.
Good luck to all of the senior mares.

Good luck to everyone and their senior mares. My oldest is 20 this year. She caught and is still pregnant with one dose of frozen semen. ;) We are crossing fingers and toes on that one!

ok, vet check did not happen last wednesday as was planned. Schools were canceled, wind was howling and it was 42 below zero with wind chill. So, had to wait until today.
My vet let out a little squeal when she went in to palpate, she said "I must have woken the little bugger up!!" Ultrasound showed all the parts in the right places and a very active baby! Very cool to see it. I was glad to have a couple extra people at the barn to hold my saint of a mare so I could actually see the screen too.

That is awesome!!! Congrats. Did you have yours sexed?
A week and a half ago my mare fell down outside, hit a patch of ice, cut up her legs, and banged up her hock. Naturally I am having heart failure, but I think we are okay. Needless to say, she only goes out in the indoor right now, although with the huge amount of snow we are getting, [ 20 inches]hopefully it will be safe for them to go outside again.
Anyway-- again--CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

It's funny you ask about sexing...I said to my vet, "is it a boy or girl?" and she said...."yes, it is", so, no I did't find out the sex. It was so cool to see it so active and really moving around. Based on that and the chinese calendar....it's a boy (but I will be happy with either, as long as it is healthy and my old gal makes it through in good shape).
We, fortunately did not get this last batch of snow. 20 miles south of me was getting hit hard and I know worse for you and farther south. I hope your mare is fine and will send good thoughts your way.

Thanks, please do send positive thoughts her way. I am still really worried about her.
as to sexing, My vet when he last checked her said he THOUGHT it was a filly, it was at 3 months, 3 weeks, alittle early to tell. But my gut feel is filly as well. But same as you, as long as it is healthy and all goes well, I don't care, either is fine. When is yours due?

Zeanna will be 340 days July 18th, but she typically foals closer to 320 days, so that would put her at June 28th.
This breeding was a last minute decision. I had trouble getting her in foal the last couple tries with AI and one morning I looked out my bedroom window to see her in total full blown heat having a love affair with the gelding across the fence. So, I called up the stallion owner who doesn't live far from me and she hauled him over. He stayed with me for 4 days and we covered her twice. Stallion is a Hanoverian X Trakehner who was boarded at my place over the previous winter, so I got to know him fairly well and decided he would make a good cross with Zeanna.
When is your girl due? How many do you have coming this year?

I just have this one for 07. I own way too many horses and need to cut back.
Also my vet was in the neighborhood and stopped by, as it happened my mare is in the correct time frame to be sexed,------ it's a boy.
I was very impulsive about my mare, I just acquired her and decided no idle time for her a bred her in September, 340 days would be August 28, but as she is a maiden, who knows!
