My horse and stallion of a lifetime is Happy Hour, German Trakehner sired by Induc (by Marduc), who was the 1994 German Bundeschampion, out of a lovely and very special Trakehner mare, Heimkehr III (by Erzsand). I also have the great privilege and honor to have Happy's father in our barn -- he is 17 and I ride him to keep him in shape and he loves it!

I also have a super 4-year old son by Happy Hour out of a lovely TB mare that we are bringing along, who seems to be following right along in his daddy's and grand-daddy's footsteps. He's absolutely lovely, with great talent and hopefully a wonderful future ahead.

Three generations of world-class performance lineage, all of whom have fabulous minds and a wonderful, very kind nature. I'm indeed very honored and blessed to be their human companion. And it's so much fun because they are like "peas in a pod," so to speak... :)

Well - I have some crosses not on here yet.

Love of my life is my gelding - Prodomus of Prospect - Clyde/Hackney Cross - called commercials in Canada - by a very famous Hackney Stallion - Alpha Centauri. - 17 hh of pure power, grace and a true gentleman to boot. - Training level 3 - showing Level 1

My Alpha Mare - Asper of Prospect - Belgian/TB cross - 17 hh of pure alpha mare - don't know her breeding. Training Level.

Yearling Filly - "Prospect's Rio Luna" - Out of Asper - By Rio Grande so she is Hanoverian/tb/belgian and all the attitude to go with it. She scored a 86% at the 2006 Canadian Sport Horse Foal Championships. - She is 15.3hh at 1 1/2yrs old.

Weanling Colt - "Prospect's Bravestrom" out of the sister of Prodomus by Swedish Warmblood Braveheart - so he is 1/2 SWB, 1/4 clyde and 1/4 hackney. Tons of Chrome and just the sweetest guy you have ever seen - already 14.2hh.

So, I have my hands full.

Purchased at 6 weeks of age and my first warmblood - and yes, it is easier on a horse bred for the job.

Sancudo, you have a Walk On Top? I used to have a WOT gelding, LOVED him, he was the sweetest boy EVER!

Yep! She's been a broodmare for most of her life, and is now back in dressage training, and can be a bit of a drama queen, lol. But she's lovely when she wants to be!

My Pik Solo gelding is the sweetest boy- to me anyway (he's really full of himself). He's "special." Sometimes in the shortbus way, usually in the talented freak of nature way.

See? He says "work faster, my slaves!! Mwuahaha"

Special- Talented

Special- The other way

"No mom, I did not open my door, rip off everyone's blankets, knock over their trunks for treats, stomp on the trash can, and swim in the water troughs! I was here, in my stall, the whole time! Honestly."

Wow, I guess I will be the first to post a Lusitano.

9 yr. old Lusitano gelding (grey) by Nostrodamus Do Top
Have had him for a year now and showed together for the first time last month at First level and working towards my bronze. He naturally schools all the upper level work but we mostly work on strengthening and conditioning so when I really need it, it will be brilliant. He is my first Iberian horse after owning a DWB for almost 8 years. Amazing to ride!!

Sancudo, she is LOVELY!

My WOT gelding was a flashy chestnut like his dad, out of a Frohwind/shagya mare. He was a real trier, almost to a fault, very much an overacheiver and very sensitive. I sold him 8-9 years ago and unfortunately heard that the new owner had to put him down last year due to a devastating pasture accident. She got him to 4th level and was working on PSG. It broke my heart to hear that.

Your girl looks just like a fleabitten grey mare that belongs to a friend of mine that I've been riding to get back in shape for my new prospect, she is BEAUTIFUL!!

Yes, there are not many Tekes out there in dressage, but it is hard as there are only about 400 purebreds in the entire US. Yvonne Barteau near Chicago shows a purebred gelding in Grand Prix, but the rest are pretty scattered around. Michael Klimke's FEI mount Chan was a halfbred Teke though, and they are used more in Europe. They do jump amazingly too, whose videos did you see ?

As far as my guy, you can see him at this photographer's page ( I never get around to photographing my own horses): http://drakephotos.dotphoto.com/CPViewAlbum.asp?AID=4554217&Page=2. He starts on page 2 and goes through half of page 4. These were taken when he was 2. His dam competed through Intermediate 3-Day, both she and Samovar's sire are grandchildren of Absent, who won the gold medal in Individual dressage in 1960. If you search for Absent on YouTube, you can find a video of him schooling piaffe, not even flinching while a newspaper blows across his legs ! I can only hope his descendent shows the same sense someday !

I love non-traditional breeds in dressage, although many judges do not. I have been told to take my Teke home and feed him before bringing him out in public, I politely attempted to explain that they are the greyhound of the equine world and should not look the same as warmbloods, but got nowhere so gave up and added that judge to the do-not-show-under list. I try to believe in the true qualities of dressage as training and ignore breed prejudice, but it's going to be hard to camouflage a metallic cremello in the show ring...;)

All of you out there with non-traditionals in the show ring, have you come up against breed prejudice ?

So far, (training/first) no problem. Most people are more wowed than anything else. It'll be interesting to see what happens as we go up the levels, though.

I did get a couple of snarky remarks from a warmblood owner who thought that her expensive horse was more entitled than my boy, but, Oh Well, it just made beating her all the sweeter...

I think because my horse is built more like a WB than what people perceive as a "traditional" appaloosa he generally doesn't get that kind of reaction. You'd be suprised how many people ask me what breed he is!

Dec. 21, 2007, 05:49 PM
Here are mine:
Mr T: OTTB by Roberto's Brandy
Fonteyne: Hanoverian (Walk on Top/Akelei/Adlerfarn)
Winona: Hanoverian by Wertherson (can't remember the dam line right now)
and last but not least my semi retired A circuit jumper Satyn: 1/2 Arabian
She would not like being listed as a Dressage horse, but we had to do it when we evented, so I guess that counts! ;)

Dec. 21, 2007, 11:08 PM
I don't remember the name of the guy who had the Tekes - he was trying to start up a breeding program in the US, but it was a few years back.

As for breed bias, I have run into it with a few judges, but generally, I find MOST judges to be open minded and well educated. I've seen some pretty obvious non-Warmbloods placed and scored much higher than fancy WBs many times. My own stallion is pretty obviously non-traditional, and I think I've only had one breed-bias issue this year.

But - I suppose with all the concern about the horse's welfare, if someone doesn't understand the breed, they may think your poor Teke is starving ;)

Dec. 23, 2007, 02:39 PM
Danzig (I call him Danny) is a Hanoverian out of Donnerkiel. I'm not sure of his dam's line.

Zahra (registered name Tenacitee XL) in recent history is nearly pure Gainey bred Arabian with Bask, Raffles, Fame VF being only part of her notable ancestry. I'm not sure if she qualifies as my 'dressage horse', she's more like my project horse.

Dec. 23, 2007, 03:13 PM
I have to say that I have run into some prejudice - when I say I have a half clyde - then they see him go - his lateral work is outstanding and so is his presence and manner - extensions still need some work though.

I have come out of the dressage ring with people's jaws on the floor.

Well, we're really wannabe eventers, but this mare will most likely be focusing on straight dressage, as that is where her talent lies:
Mocha, STBx, unknown breeding

And this mare is starting in dressage currently, so time will tell where she ends up:
Mira, TB/Paint, Treasured Cloud / Powdered Ice

My FEI eventer.
He's really a closet DK. I think at this point he would be 2nd-3rd level.
Dressage schools are SO fun on this one. Almost more fun then jumping. ; )
He is the love of my life.

the funniest warmblood breeding I ever saw was a local trainer who put in the championships program the breeding of her tb/holsteiner cross as "eurotrash". I couldn't believe the show secretary put it down like that, but she did. LOL!

Mellanie, you have bred some lovely horses! I do love a loud leopard! (Mine is a Scripter-bred foundation appy, and just the bees knees in all respects.)

I think I'm the only w/ one of these...

Spencers Curly Ben (Ben)
Registered Percheron Stallion, '01 Model
Sire: Elvira's Spencer/Northwood's Midnight Sun o/o S.A.F. Dixie/Don's Dolly Prince

I raised this boy and love him to bits and pieces. His first two crossbred sons were backed this year as 3yo's and are doing very well. His first son even did a couple schooling shows and did great! I'm so pleased. They are both in eventing homes, but know they will stay on the flat for awhile before they start jumping.

Sire: Manitu

Dam: Amies Image (Great Grandsire is Swaps)

You can see his picture posted in my profile. I just purchased him a year ago, and am hoping he will be a great dressage partner....although he gets bored easily so we may also try some lower level eventing to keep things interesting. :D

I love my spotties....Levi is as close to Chocklate is every way except for the danglies.
I lost the gelding(skull fracture) I had planned on keeping as my play horse. I had Levi sold as a stallion, but I was told that the check was in the mail for a month too long......Great for me, bad for them, the rest is history.
I would love to hear more about your horse when you get a chance.

Professor Plum aka Fess(or) aka Blind Ambition
1998 Solid Bred Paint, reg. name Red Diamond Roan
Superman Skip x Windy's Fun

We just started showing first level dressage together last fall. I am *hoping* Fess will be my bronze medal horse, assuming I make it that far in my riding. With any luck, we'll both be sound for the one weekend of recognized showing in the area for a chance at our first level bronze scores.

Fessor is now completely blind due to uveitis. We train and compete dressage, and also trail ride on a regular basis. Though I probably would not have bought him if I knew he would go blind, the journey together has been amazingly rewarding.

The Queen Mother at my farm (and love of my life):
TB mare, chestnut, about to turn 25 and sound as a dollar and being a schoolmaster now, whom I evented through prelim and trained/showed through PSG in her younger days and then she took time off to be a mommy. Her name is Exclusive Fire and she's an Exclusive Native mare out of Frontier Khal by Khalborough (good ol' English bloodlines going back to Hyperion). Still has turbo boosters and isn't afraid to let her rider know it, but super sane and a big ol' sweetheart!

Fire's son, Rapid Fire (barn name Amos) born 3-25-2005, TB-Morgan cross, sired by Ryegate Soma Jed (pure Lippitt morgan,) bright red bay, got the best of both breeds and just a super neat little guy, I backed him this winter and he's just taking it all in stride like a superstar! He's the next Love of My Life and I'm looking forward to many wonderful rides on my boy!
