View Full Version : For the colour crowd

A white TB does something (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt7ARX0xJcM) other than stand around and look pretty.

Of course this horse was bred to do something, the colour was a complete accident.

Is he actually a white, max sabino, or is he just a gray?

Ladybug Hill
Dec. 11, 2007, 07:26 AM
The horse looks to have the pink skin of a max sabino and the fairly even white coloration of a max sabino.

Why the snark? Sounds like someone trying to pick a fight.

Interesting the sire is a gray and the dam is the white TB in the pedigree. First time I think, I've seen a white with a gray parent. Cool Filly! And what a race to come form behind like that and blow the doors off of the whole pack in the end. :D

Do you know how much she has won so far and how many starts?

Ohh - well done ! I was trying desperately to make out something that sounded like a name! The picture is much better than the video clip in terms of making out the color - she looks definately like a Maximum Sabino rather than a grey

Oh and I would not recognize any silks even if they waved in front of my eyes for hours

Well maybe I am stupid but I didn't think the OP was snarky. It can't turn into a fight if you don't respond to it as though it was picking a fight. I have been so impressed with the general attitude of the boards in the last week. Good and heated discussion without getting too out of control.

Let's see if we can discuss color without quite as many emotions. The whites in the racing industry have been there with several examples already. Not a brand new thing. I honestly don't personally know of ANY color breeder that does not want their stock to be high quality--some breeders just may be more knowledgeable than others.

Tell me about the sire--I am not as knowledgeable about some of the pedigrees as I should be. Don't see that pedigree in the database.

I don't think many TBs continue their racing careers to the point where their coats would have "greyed out" to 100% white. Eight, ten years old or more? And she would have had to be bald-faced (not common in TBs) to not have dark around the eyes/muzzle.

Nice run.

You're really preaching to the wrong crowd here...

...and, this filly's color shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. She's out of a white, Halo-line mare.

If you look at the pedigree, the mare's dam is a maximally expressed sabino too. There are two good pictures of the dam if you follow the links.

The dam has dropped three white foals, including this one.

That filly is one fine looking gal. Just beautiful.

Well, when the post is "for you color crowd" and then it's worded like "look a colored horse that actually does something and was bred to do something other than be pretty" and "his color was an accident" than I read some snark into it. I also like the atmosphere on the boards lately and that is why I mentioned how the post came across to me.

Ladybug Hill
Dec. 11, 2007, 09:29 AM
I went back and reread--yes I could see the snark, but honestly if a non color breeder wants to point out that a horse can be "colored" and be "successful" then honestly that person is pointing out what we have said all along!

So I guess you could choose to read it as a supportive statement! (and take whatever snark they intended right out of the post!)

That totally freaked me out. I know that some places do go to the right. Which countries do that.

Yeah, racing to the right - eek!

Gorgeous, gorgeous mare, and man can she run. She won going away. What an absolutely incredible pedigree on her. She's got the best of the best on top and bottom. Imagine, a white horse with a gray sire. What happens when she finally goes gray at 8 or 10 :D:lol::winkgrin::);):D Tee hee hee!!!

Racing in most countries is bi-directional, sometimes both directions in the one race. Of major racing nations only the US and Canada are uni-directional.

What made me think possible gray, was this picture of a foal from a previous thread on this board http://www.esi-auktionen.de/Queensland/p/109.html Barely a weanling and already almost all white.

Thanks for sharing the link - beautiful filly and fun race to watch. Sure would make it easy to spot your horse in the race when she's THAT white! We've had a few grays that were almost white, and some of them have run in the Gray Ghost in NJ - fun!

Riddlemethis, so strange to see a weanling jumping like that (the like to Queensland) - what a beautiful baby with fantastic form though!

Oh, Drumbiggle. Did you not know that "color" (or, as you say, "colour") is a pot-stirrin' word around here? :sigh:

Should I know the silks that filly's (whose name begins with a Y and whose broodmare sire's initials are SS) jock is wearing? :uhoh: edited to add: now that I've done some poking around, okay, now I know who made those silks famous. Japanese racing is just too early in the morning for me to follow ;) but I should have remembered the l'Arc de Triomphe.

I can think of two greys that are nearly white now and still running:

Nine year old Evening Attire (http://www.drf.com/images/evening_200x250_121007.jpg),

and seven year old Christmas Away (http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/32931/2613444200099108256S425x425Q85.jpg) That picture was taken in 2006; he's in the middle of the field (obviously).

Blonde Filly, I believe you have been banned multiple times under multiple alters for advertising and snipping.

I was only banned once and NEVER ever came back as an alter..you are thinking of someone else NOT ME. I was banned for asking for ice boots for my foundering mare...it was considered "advertising"...the thread has magicly disappeared or I would refer you to it...and NO the Mods know I'm here!!!! So let's move on as I've said on multiple threads now! Please see Off Course Thread and Sporthorsebreeding Thread! Carry on! :D

OMG!! This thread has almost 1,400 views! Most of the racing threads barely make it into the 100's.

Who would have thought Japanese racing was that popular??

Here's Deep Impact winning the Arima Kinen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrY8XwbUylw), his final race, with his signature come from the back of the pack style and being paraded before the 100,000 fans one last time.

Her dam is a white daughter of Sunday Silence http://www.pedigreequery.com/shirayukihime

And her sire was a very good racehorse and sire himself.

The filly COULD also be grey, her body is essentially all one white marking so if she is grey it is hidden and they will only know if she produces a grey foal to a none grey sire. 50/50 chance of grey/non grey.

Apparently a white foal is not the huge deal in Japan as it is here as there are quite a few of them! Not all this line either.

Just an aside: a young greyed out TB shows up every once in a while. Snow Magic still has a dark mane but she is quite light for a grey 2yo:
