Everything's organized and we'll be ready to roll tomorrow morning for Tryon NC. Laurel (Driving Tidbits) Is kindly putting us up for a couple of nights so that we can participate in the first Continuous Drive.

It's a new format for this area and we're quite excited about it. It will be Joe's first competition with Phoenix, too. I'm not sure exactly how everything will work but there are 4 sections, driven consecutively. A marathon (w/o hazards), dressage (everyone's doing Prelim Test 2), another marathon section and then cones. It's divided into four sections: Novice Pony, Novice Horse, Open Pony, Open Horse.

This is not an approved competition but it will be run under ADS rules and I've heard they even have an "S" Dressage Judge! Nonetheless it's supposed to be very lowkey - no turnout awards as dress is informal and Price has said penalties will be assessed for polished brass :D

We're very anxious to get out west and meet the other club members. So far everyone has really been exceptionally nice and accommodating so we're looking forward to a fun - if chilly - weekend :)

to be volunteering, providing my mare gets better, she's been off all night long, we're seeing the vet at 8:30 this morning, hopefully we can get her fixed up. So hopefully I can be there. I have a gold mini van. I will look for you :)

We are thrilled to have Pat and crew as well as some folks from Aiken.
One correction.CCC stands for Carolina Carriage Club, not Central Carolina. They are based out of Raleigh, we are in the Tryon area.
I'll be there volunteering tomorrow. Poppy is going to be an HA pony for Pony Club here today and tomorrow. Since a goodly number of kids who fail their HA rating, fail because of lunging, we try to get all horses who will lunge for almost anyone. It's a lucky kid who draws Poppy or Dale Govus's Izzy.

everyone had a great day. I spent the morning at the vets office giving I V Fluids to my mare. :( Sorry I was unable to attend.

Jetiki, we certainly home your mare is ok. We had plenty of help so don't feel bad about missing it. You were where you needed to be.

It started out pretty cold, in the 20's but warmed up quickly. We had 12 competitors, I think. They did a short pace, 20 min. then dressage. Then a longer pace, 30 min, and cones. All the horses were in fine shape and everyone seemed to have fun. I left before awards so I'm not sure how the placings went. I did get to view some of the dressage test and our judge was generous and kind. It will be fun to see how it all fits together to make the overall placing.

Pat, Joe and Laurel all seemed to have fun. Evidently the trail wasn't particularly well marked and everyone got at least a little lost, but everyone found their way home so all in all, a good day. The Alaskan stew was the biggest hit at lunch.

Price,

Thanks, right now I'm trying to get fluids into her, vet said that if she's not over it by monday he'll send us to Bonnie Brae. I hope it doesn't go that far:(
he says his foal tube is too big for her, so he won't tube her :(

My mini donk coliced years ago and the foal tube was too big. The emergency vet didn't have anything else. I later found out to use a large dog tube, like for a german shepard. Haven't had the need since then but it was suggested to get one to keep here incase it happened again.
Sending good thoughts your way.

Thanks, I'll look into that :) as of this morning there is a pile in her stall I am happy, I got her to drink some yesterday afternoon, carrot juice and water did that trick, she hasn't touched it since then, but I am working on her. :)

Thanks :)

Karen, I'm so sorry we didn't get to meet you but even sorrier at the reason why. Sure hope all goes well!

Yes, Price, we had a FABULOUS time. :D  Of course coming home with all of those ribbons and a belly full of that wonderful food was lovely. The weather was wonderful and the CCC members could not have been more gracious or welcoming. The only down side was losing my cell phone somewhere on course... which, thanks to an incredible scavenger hunt by the CCC members (especially Barbara and Alan) is now safely back with me :)

This was Joe's first official outing as a competitor and he and Phoenix really did themselves proud. Laurel navigated for him so we had no husband-wife problems ;) and they accumulated FIVE 2nd places: 1st Pace, Dressage, 2nd Pace, Cones and then overall 2nd for Novice Horse!!! :D :) :D I was so proud of them! Joe was amazed at how well Phoenix handled the hills and both he and Laurel could not believe how FAST he was. He came back from the 1st Pace round and through and then went on to do a lovely dressage test with Joe remembering the entire thing! He was still going strong on the 2nd Pace and then came in to do a clean cones course. What a way to start their competitive driving career! I don't know who was happier - Joe, Laurel, me or the club members who were so excited over his results :)

Maggie was a star. After rearing repeatedly at the Start and almost scaring our navigator Mary Smith off we too had a strong start. She finished the 1st Pace all warmed-up and ready to go for dressage. I missed centerline as the lettering wasn't quite right and it was a bit of an odd ring (still, I should've checked it our ahead of time so it was my bad totally) resulting in a few 5's. But then, doing Prelim Test 2, she had a chance to show off her incredible walk and extended gaits scoring an unbelievable three 9's!!! We finished 4th in the 1st Pace (we got lost :uhoh:), 1st in Dressage, 1st in the 2nd Pace and 2nd in Cones. We were clean in cones but the field was bumpy so I opted to drive conservatively ;) Maggie won 1st Place in her division and then I was most surprised to have her win Overall Reserve Champion!!!! :D

Many thanks to Laurel and Bruce for putting us up - horses, dogs and all. We had a super visit and are already looking forward to our next trip west :) I even found the perfect new bit for Maggie when we drove over to Claudette's to retrieve my phone. I strongly encourage anyone who can to join CCC - they're a fun and extremely supportive group who really enjoy the sport of driving

Way to go Joe and Pat. Jetiki, I hope your horse recovers OK. Colic can sure take the fun out of a weekend. And again looks like the sudden weather change might have something to do with it.

I'm hosting picnic drive for the Fla Whips in Jan. any ideas for simple yet fun things to offer would be most appreciated. You all know the sort stuff I like to do.

Thanks
Dick

She's better today but has a fever 103 range, so vet put her on meds. The back end is working now :)

Thanks everyone for their well wishes, they worked :)

I will be at the next event barring any other random issues. We're due for another wacky weather week so ya'll be careful.

I am glad to hear that the event went well and that everyone had a great time. Congrats to the winners.
