If you are in either of these areas & need to evacuate:
The Rodeo Grounds in Lakeside & the Del Mar Fairgrounds are full, according to the horse grapevine. They are evacuating Wildcat Canyon down to Willow Rd, which puts the horses at the Rodeo Grounds in the position of maybe having to move. So far they're still taking horses at PVRA, we think. If the fire goes more west across Espola (it has jumped Poway Rd) PVRA may need to evacuate - no word yet. We have filled every solo space here at Willow Glen we had with evacuees, but we can tie horses to the rail in the front arena like they do at the Rodeo grounds. We also have access to ZIL's mom's place on Dehesa - 4 24' x 24' pipes & a small arena right around the corner from us on Willow Glen. Right now we have several trailers on the road evacuating from the Harris fire; we also have one here that can pick up in this area. You can call me on my cell 619-884-4986
UPDATE as of 1:20 pm - they are now beginning to evacuate the Rodeo Grounds; Bright Valley Farm (by Steele Canyon High School in Rancho San Diego) is taking evacuees; we're tying horses in the front arena at Willow Glen Equestrian Center (bring a water bucket) - no more corrals or stalls - and I think ZIL's mom's place is now spoken for for 10. Right now we have no trailers available; they're heading for the rodeo grounds and also Alpine.
Horseaholic - do you know if there's anywhere in Imperial Beach folks can go? Lots of horses can't go in with others or don't tie reliably . . .I'm glad all your sister's horses & your Windy made it out ok -is your sister's name Terri?

Animal rescue and shelter update
1:28 p.m.
The San Diego Humane Society's Animal Rescue Reserve team is currently working with the San Diego County Department of Animal Services to evacuate domestic animals and livestock.
If possible, place your pet in a crate or carrier and bring any necessary supplies including leashes, food, water and medications as supplies at evacuation centers may be limited. More tips can be found online at www.sdhumane.org.
Most Red Cross evacuation centers are accepting pets in carriers.
If you do not have or were unable to pet your pet in a carrier or need pet supplies, bring your pet to one of the following Red Cross evacuation centers:
Qualcomm Stadium ... 9449 Friars Road in Mission Valley
Mira Mesa High School ... 10510 Reagan Road in Mira Mesa
The following sites are full and are no longer accepting animals:
Lakeside Rodeo Grounds ... (approaching capacity)
Del Mar Fairgrounds ... (full)
If you have animals or livestock that you cannot evacuate yourself or that need to be rescued, call (619) 236-4250 and press Š1‰ for emergency services.
If you have a stable or other areas that are safe and can house a number of large animals and livestock that need to be evacuated, please call the San Diego Humane Society at (619) 299-7012. SDHS is also in need of portable livestock panels for temporary corrals. If you have these available for use, please call (619) 299-7012.
Volunteers and supplies are not needed at this time, but the San Diego Humane Society is keeping a list of names for people interested in helping.
If you would like to help, you can donate online at www.sdhumane.org or call (619) 299-7012.
Jingles to everyone down there and Good Luck!

Mandatory evacuations in south Fallbrook. Both my daughters are on the road with either Border Patrol or sheriff escorts as they won't let anyone through without credentials. However, ZIL is standing by with her trailer - a warmblood sized 3 horse if anyone needs a ride where the roads are still open to all traffic.

Evacuation help in El Cajon
3:30 p.m.
The El Cajon Animal Shelter, located at 1275 North Marshall, will be open today to receive domestic pets and small livestock animals for emergency boarding. Donations of cat and dog food (canned), blankets and towels are welcomed for those wishing to help.
The Westfield Parkway mall, at 415 Parkway Plaza, has opened an area in the Southeast corner of the outdoor mall near Best Buy & Borders to large livestock since Lakeside rodeo grounds have filled. They've also opened up the Northwest section of their mall parking lot for RV's and campers.
The new Home Depot location at 298 Fletcher Parkway, scheduled to open in mid November, have opened a section of their parking lot to large livestock, RV's & Campers. They also have water available there and port-a-potties available leftover from the construction of the new store.
Granite Hills High School, located at 1719 E. Madison Avenue has opened their parking lots only for large livestock, RV's and campers.
Due to air quality alerts all outdoor activities are canceled today and until further notice. Updates will be given daily. All indoor activities will be held today and until further notice. Therefore recreation centers are open today and indoor instructional classes will be held.
CERT Team members are welcome to help if they're available at the evacuation areas, especially if they are experienced in the handling of large livestock.
Important: Animal Shelters have received literally hundreds of calls in the last few hours from good Samaritans who are offering room, yards, and land for livestock. There is a serious lack of horse trailers to transport these animals. Anyone with an available horse trailer can call the San Diego Animal Support Foundation immediately at 619-847-8755.
The La Mesa Community Center is making sandwiches for bag lunches for evacuees and they could use sandwich meats, apples and oranges. They are located at 4975 Memorial Drive, just off La Mesa Boulevard.

I just got back to the Orange County Faigrounds with ANOTHER load of horses, this time from the Applegates farm in Rancho Sante Fe. John Bragg's horses are all safe and in temporary places, some at the OC Fairgrounds, some at stables in Back Bay, some at the Oaks and some at Coto.
The air is almost unbreatheable in the canyon where I picked up the last load. Terrible traffic and lots of trailers on the road.
I got flagged down by a family and friends in a deserted shopping center to see if I would help them get their horses out. They did not have a trailer so they rode about 10-12 horses down out of the canyon and were just standing in the center trying to flag down every trailer. They said they got out just before their house went up in flames and the only way was to leave even the vehicles and take the horses. There were 2 little girls there just hanging on to their horses and crying.
The Helen Woodward Vet hospital is evacuated, Bernie Traurig got those out and took them to Escondido temporarily. Fairbanks ranch got their horses into the last stalls available at the Fairgrounds, and so on for many many stories. It is truly a mess..but horseman are a hardy group nd everyone is working like crazy to help those in need.

Good for you khobstetter - help under duress like that is just so appreciated! Have no idea at the moment where any of our drivers are, but I know it's not as frantic right here as the Cedar fire got, thank goodness. During that one at one point when I was talking to a daughter evacuating horses she calmly said "Gotta go now - the flames are meeting over the top of the trailer. . ." This fire folks seemed to be evacuating much earlier instead of trying to tough it out. We still have room for horses who tie & with the way the wind whips through here our air quality is excellent, which can't be said for much of the area & very different from the Cedar fire when we couldn't breathe or see the sun for days. We do have folks who can drive here in the south part of the county - there's now no way for us to get north.

Evacuees are invited to stable their horses at a horse farm in the Thermal-Indio area.
A private citizen, recommended by a California Department of Food & Agriculture veterinarian, has volunteered enough property, staff, food, and water resources to care for up to 1,700 horses. For more information, County residents can call (760) 399-2716.

Thanks for the info about Thermal - probably not a possibility, though, as they're not allowing any trailers, RVs, tractor trailers over the mountains due to the high winds. Normally they abate after dark, but not this time - it's just as windy as it has been all day & last night. I just almost got blown over on my Ruckus doing a barn check to make sure everyone is settling in & we haven't lost any more branches/shelters. Pizza should be here soon, though & I have a feeling our shower will be busy tonight . . .

Four years ago in Simi Valley/Moorpark etc. etc, evacuated horses thought to be safe then became endangered because the fire spread so quickly. I thought as early as this morning that Del Mar had been thought possibly endangered, but I guess that was premature information. Has anyone heard whether Los Alamitos can take any horses? I know racetracks with current meets and lots of residents are wary of these things (all kinds of quarantine issues) but maybe Los Al is the next place to look to? I can't keep track of the direction of the fires down there...

According to the OC Fire authority website (http://www.ocfa.org/ocfamain.asp?pgn1=3), Industry Hills is taking horses.
They list the following under "Animal Evacuation"
OC Fair Ground is closed to animals at this time.
Industry Hills Expo Center will take 125 large animals (626) 330-0324. They are located off of the 60 Freeway between the 57 and 605 freeways
Orange County Animal Shelter off of The City Drive will take 150 dogs and 75 cats.
It's Pierce College (http://www.piercecollege.edu/) and there is an article on the top of their web page.

My friend Leslie has been evacuated from her Poway home because of the fires. She has had to evacuate a total of 70 animals, 10 of them being horses. She also has 3 llamas, several goats and sheep, chickens, ducks, bunnies, cats, and others. She runs a small non-profit rescue organization and all of her animals were saved from slaughter, neglect, or abuse. Right now, she is sitting in a parking lot at a Westfields shopping mall with all of her animals, a couple of cars and one two horse trailer. It's the Parkway plaza shopping center near El Cajon (by Best Buy and Borders.) Her horses are all tied to the trailer and are OK, but all the other animals are inside the cars or the trailer where it's getting hot. If anyone has the capacity to help her out, please call her. Her name is Leslie and her cell phone is (858) 829-7846.

Evacuated Horses Streaming into Pierce College as Fires Spread
10/22/2007
Horses in evacuated areas threatened by the Malibu and other fires raging today are finding safe refuge at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, a Los Angeles County large animal emergency evacuation center.
By Monday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., 120 horses had been logged in, sheltered and fed under the direction of the L.A. County Volunteer Equine Response team, according to Pierce College Equestrian Mananger Bill Lander.
HOTLINE: A temporary emergency Command Center phone number has been set up for the public to get evacuation information for large animals: (818) 991-6384.
Pierce can house more than 200 large animals, and additional evacuation centers are being set up by the County, so the public should call the Command Center hotline for direction.
Horses are taken in for free at Pierce, and a veterinarian is onsite. Trained volunteers from Pierce College’s equestrian program and Boots and Saddles Club are assisting the county rescue effort, night and day.
Emergency Center Guidelines are:
No stallions
Bring a water tub and medicines for your animal
Please bring feed if you can
Pierce College is located at 6201 Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills; enter the campus off De Soto Avenue just south of Victory Blvd. Turn east onto El Rancho Road.
For small animals such as dogs and cats, call the Agoura animal shelter at (818) 991-0071.
Evacuees in Ventura County can call (805) 388-4341.

I posted this in the other thread--but just in case, here's an update on some of the affected areas
Right now the "witch" fire seems to be very volatile. From reports of people still there, it seems to be doubling back a bit towards Escondido. From what I have heard, the air quality at Del Mar Horsepark is "okay", but they are keeping a VERY close eye on the fire as it travels down Del Dios Highway. We are very worried about the wind. Poway is, quite frankly, a mess--several of my relatives homes are lost.
Your thoughts are appreciated. We had an "evacuation party" last night. It seems like, when in a crisis, most people grab photos, important documents, and any wine still in the fridge.
It lends a bit of the surreal to the entire deal.

El Camino High School in Oceanside is taking livestock and other pets. Run by O'side Humane Society. As of last night, Faubus Farms was taking horses, but they were waitingto hear if they needed to evacuate as well. I don't know the status.
Del Mar Fairgrounds needs horse volunteers - they are not taking large animals (full) but are open to people and small pets. However, there are a lot of horses to care for. They ask that you call tis number first to volunteer before showing up. 760-792-5245 You can also donate hay through a local feed store, but I didn't write downthat number. If youcallthe 1st number, you will be able to get the feedstore number for those of you who may want tobe generous with a donation.
Del Mar Horsepark is also full.
Thermal/Indio is accepting evacuees, but it's quite far.
I heard on the TV news that people are using residential streets in mission valley (city suburbs) to park their trailrs and tie horses.
Parkway Plaza mall was taking peoplewith livestock. Idon't know if they are full or not at this point. Clickthrough to the link to socalequine below, and you will see horses standing in the parking lot.
Deluz area of Fallbrook is being evacuated to temecula. Supposedly the fire is heading towards or is in the santa margarita river area now. I believe there is a south front as well in Fallbrook. This is what I heardon the news this a.m. Again, we are not getting much coverage on the Fallbrook fire. The 76 fwy is closed at E. Vista Way. In a press conference this a.m., a fire cheif said that he was pleased with how the fire went overnight, that the fire crews were able to keep it from going out of control with the wind notbeing as strong. I don't know what that means exactly!!!
It appears that the Harris Fire, east of Chula Vista, is flaring up and more evacs have been issued.
It is my understanding from the news that Olivenhain, Del Mar heights and Encinitas are under evacuation (Witch Fire).
Personally, I do not know where the horses are going to go. Over 300,000 people have been evacuated in San Diego county. We have one of the highest horse per capita populations in the country.
More evacuation numbers are at http://www.socalequine.com/bulletins.htm
I would say that if you are able to call county animalcontrol, do it. They probably have up to date info. (858) 694-3900

I just started a thread before I saw this one. If anyone can help this woman, please call her.
Does anyone know if this lady found help?

This is the first time I have had a minute to sit and give an update.
The Silverado/Santiago/Mojeska fire is raging and is actually a firestorm, what you see on the news is just a small sampling, it is 100 times worse there. We (I) are fortunate that the fire marshall decided to use our facility as a staging area for the trucks, food and command post so they dropped fire retardent all the way around it and so far it is saved although houses right down the road are lost. The fire came right up to the property on three sides, The farm is open and flat and convenient for big fire equipment to get in and hold firm in, so for this minute we are safe.
We also are members of the "Roosters", a Newport charity that gives to alot of different things. We took truck loads of GIANT pallets of water into the fire zone and the fire marshall took Chad (our farm owner) with him right up to the fire line to get water to the fighters. The rest stayed down in the canyon while he went up. It actually scared him abit, the fire was right at the trucks but the guys need water!!!
Mojeska is just so small and tight that the fire fighters finally had to retreat and get out of there and just let it burn. That road is not even one lane wide and the danger to the fighters getting killed if the fire turned was just too high.
At another location in the canyon right by our farm the fire DID turn and the fighters took cover under their emergency "tents" laying on the ground till the fire went right over them...it saved their lives!!!!
San Diego/Rancho Sante Fe/Rancho Bernardo is a mess......while most of the horses are at safe locations, they are now having a feed problem as most of the farms evacuated in such a hurry and could NOT bring the hay out with them. There are over 3000 horses to be fed and that is 32 TONS a day.....really a problem!!
The Oaks is just about full with MANY MANY of the training barns ending up there, including Haps horses who just arrived from Harrisburg. Michelle Parker and so many others are there. If anyone want to stall clean and/or feed horses, feel free to just show up and volunteer..they REALLY need help.
PS..we did send trailers to those kids and got those horses to a place in Oceanside for safety..I heard that took forever as the kids were really scared and so were the horses.
I am taking a shower..the first since Monday.... and then going back out, the wind is up again and has turned.....DAMN!!!!!

Human hands aren't really what's needed right now with the equines, a lot of the owneres have that under control, or barn hands / friends. Help with people is greatly needed, kids especially. Qualcom is gaining more people, games for the kids are being asked for. Big-rigs, trailers, for the horses are needed etc... Help in general is actually at an overflow almost, which is a beautiful thing that so many people are so willing to help!

Information:
signonsandiego.com has fairly current info and also has info on the actual homes damaged (addresses) for those who are waiting to find out.
Also search "California Highway Patrol" +incident and you can see *almost* real time reports on the road closures and reports of new fires, etc.
Cal Fire's site gives overall info on each fire; location, acreage, homes lost and damaged, etc.
This morning, Galway Downs and Vessels were taking in horses. I'm not certain whether Galway is still doing that considering the location in relation to the new Palomar Fire.
Convoys of horse transportation vans were sent into the fire areas: I personally saw several Bob Hubbard, and at least three Cargill vans heading south on the #15 into the fire areas this morning as I was heading north bringing horses out of the San Marcos area, and I know that Chuck Erb Horse Transportation has made multiple trips into the fire areas to evac horses over the past two or three days. Anyone needing transport might want to contact one of them.
Others are probably involved also. I heard that FEMA has been contacting transport companies to help evac horses from the fire areas (I heard this straight from one of the transport firms).
Ingall's Park in Norco is taking in horses, although I know they have limited space. I can get contact info if anyone is in need. I was checking into possibly moving some horses there this afternoon (I have 9 horse-y "visitors" from the fire areas tonight, and 3 more on a neighbor's property). Info was to bring water buckets and feed.
As of Monday night, Q Ranch in Menifee had taken in about 12 horses and had room for a few more. I do have contact info if anyone is in need.
I also heard that Del Mar Horsepark may have been evacuated?

For those who want to help, I would say that buying and donating hay would be terrific (numbers for fair grounds earlier in thread) and/or sending a donation to the American Red Cross for the fire victims themselves (the owners).
I think that it was mentioned earlier that The Oaks and Del Mar Fairgrounds need hands-on help. I'm sure that ANY of the livestock evacuation centers could use a helping hand, especially the ones without ANY horse facilities like the schools, malls, and colleges.
Like I said earlier in this thread, San Diego has one of the biggest equine populations in the country. The fire areas have affected the horse areas primarily.
From what I've heard, the nat'l media has been slow to pick up on this story. In SD, we have had 500,000 people evacuated.
Please just pray for no winds and for more firefighters.

I have a small ring - 40 by 60 at home. Can take one horse in it - or two if they can go out together. We have our two horses at home in our barn so we live on the premises. Let me know if someone out there needs horse housing.
Unfortunately I sold my trailer last month so can't provide a ride here. But I can clearly provide a home for a horse (or 2) who is under evacuation.

http://www.fire.lacounty.gov/
Unfortunately, that map doesn't begin to give you a true idea of what's happening.
For example, it shows a nice neat little fire and says it's the Witch Fire. That fire alone is now over 196,000 acres and only 1% contained...and it's effects are far beyond what the map shows.

Roxie and I are safe in Kearney Mesa (mid San Diego) at a Courtyard hotel. Everyone I know has been evacuated, so we're taking this hotel up on their ENORMOUS generosity. Rooms set up with cots and Internet is free and it seems that the public is unaware of this offer/situation.
I'm trying to keep as much normalicy as possible in our lives. It's also a home base for a huge amount of parametics from around the state. They do their shifts, come back here to shower, eat, sleep and socailze. These guys and gal are the BEST!
My neighborhood looks like a war zone on the News. If the house and barns are still there, I'm sure that there'll be huge smoke and water damage. There are 100+ homes lost in my small area of this small lakeside community. The firefighters will help those that have helped them to make their jobs easier, so I'm trying to keep good thoughts, as the property owner is really good about clearing the land around the property. I went up to the area near my house today after purchasing doggie shoes for Roxie (for when we can get back on the property) and there's National Guards fully armed all around the area. I also stopped by the Vet's office to see if Roxie should have some electrolytes, vitamins...etc. They took a photo of her for me, since when I had her microchipped 12 days ago, Home Again had not input the info yet, so I hadn't had the chance to upload a photo.
So without reading any of this thread, I say bye-bye for now and get on with business. I'm very sure that everyone on the boards has been very loving and supportive to those in need. This is a nightmare beyond belief and I myself am very blessed to be where I am both physically and emotionally at this time.

I just wanted to say that our horses are evacuated and are currently at Sweetwater Farms in Bonita (San Diego fires), along with other horses evacuated from the Jamul area. They have really gone above and beyond and it made me feel so much better to know that the horses are safe and happy while I was evacuating my home. Luckily I am home now, and all is fine but Jamul is still burning and the horses are still evacuated and probably will be for at least a few more days. how would I find out about fostering pets? I'm assuming these are kitties and dogs that need temporary homes until their owners can get back to their houses (that are hopefully still there :()
that would be an easy thing for a lot of us to do in this area, and I bet it would mean a lot to the folks who are dealing with a lot of other stuff right now that their pets are one less thing to worry about.

HUGE THANKS TO PEGGY. I hadn't heard a word about my house, which is at a training/sales barn. No information has been available and everyone has been tending to their own needs and cell phone use is limited to emergency use only.
Because Peggy left a link to the GSDHJA site, I now know that my house is standing. So because of COTH once again being there for those in need, I can now begin to organize my thoughts and plan my future. You all are the best. Thanks for all the positive you do, not only for our beloved four legged creatures of all species, but for the two legged variety as well.
Bless your hearts and souls, Laurie & Roxie

OC people and those close by, a friend just sent this and asked me to pass it on:
I spent a couple of hours this morning at the fairgrounds this morning with the woman who is coordinating the evacuation effort. her name is Janie and she is doing an amazing job with little sleep. She was up all night building temporary corrals so that no horse is turned away. I told her the people at the HCPEC want to help.
They do need help - although there is no specific system in place - horses are getting colic as they are getting different feed and there is a need to water, feed, muck. They need hoof picks and muck rakes also. Hoses were also needed to fill water buckets in the turnouts holding horses.
They are also asking for salt blocks, bandages, bute and fly spray. They have alot of hay right now and a feed store was dropping off a trcuk load of pellets when I was leaving.
Most of these horses came up from San Diego and many are there without an owner close by so no one is giving these horses the attention they are used to. Those are the horses that need volunteers.
If you can help out, stop by the fairgrounds and I know they can use you. Janie is a bit overwhelmed by her phone right now or else I would share her cell number. If you can drop off supplies, that too is greatly appreciated. The horses look good - many with numbers painted on - but there is a still alot to be done. They are also trying to keep a list of all those people who are searching for their horse - which has to be heartbreaking.

Coreene, is there a mailing address where we could mail bandages, bute or other relatively light weight items? I know salt blocks or bricks are too heavy to mail. But some of us in other states could send stuff by priority mail if it would help. Just a thought.

Ranches in the Tijuana River Valley (Imperial Beach/Nestor) have taken in hundreds of evacuated horses, but now we're facing a hay shortage. The ranch where I work is going through 50+ bales a day...there are a dozen other ranches in the area in the same boat. Truckloads of hay coming from the Imperial Valley have been unable to get through this week, and several area feed stores have burned in the fires. If you have bermuda or alfalfa available (we are especially concerned about the bermuda), or know someone who does, please email me! Delivered would definitely be best, but we can send a truck & trailer if all the roads are open to get there. We'd GREATLY appreciate donations to offset the cost of hundreds of additional mouths to feed.
Please email me if you can help at: vaquera@san.rr.com

I am sure that the SD fairgrounds still needs lots of help. Also, the Oaks has a lot of horses that are still displaced. Many of them are older, or look like they've been in pasture for a while, and are really nervous about being in a stall. They need help at the Oaks with feeding, cleaning and filling water. If you are able to help, they need people at 7am with the feeding tomorrow. For things that are needed, there were not enough rakes today, and I know a lot of the horses could use a gastro-guard or ulcer-gaurd, especially before getting back on the trailer to go home. They could probably use more hoses too for filling water tomorrow morning.
Also, a lot of people were willing to help get horses out, but now there are many people having a hard time finding rides home for their horses so there is another way to help if you are able.

Kenike-
how would I find out about fostering pets? I'm assuming these are kitties and dogs that need temporary homes until their owners can get back to their houses (that are hopefully still there :()
that would be an easy thing for a lot of us to do in this area, and I bet it would mean a lot to the folks who are dealing with a lot of other stuff right now that their pets are one less thing to worry about.
How sweet! I've been involved in fostering by going through the local Petsmart, Petco, humane societies, ASPCA chapters, and shelters. Maybe you can contact any one of them, let them know you're willing? Something makes me think they'd jump at the chance....especially if you have not only yourselves, but a list of names willing to help.
Thanks, LI. I saw that when Erin posted, just had a stupid blonde moment. :)

Hey! already got it answered by another poster. Link is http://www.petfinder.com/disaster
We already signed up for a dog- hubby is a major dog-lover, we already have three cats, and best of all, our dog will be sooooo happy to have a buddy. She's missing all her buddies back in PA. You should see her at the dog park, she's totally the new kid and doesn't fit in at all .
Anyway, the only hard part will be giving the dog back and dealing with our dog's subsequent depression- you know how good dogs are at moping and making you feel guilty! :D

Do you have any addresses of these places and a list of what they might need that could be mailed from the east coast? Certainly not salt bricks or rakes etc!!! but lightweight or small items easy to package and mail. I'm sure I can find more stuff for any horses in need as I am sure plenty of others could also. Do any need light weight sheets? Not sure what is needed in your CA climate.

Hey Talloaks, thank you for the offer! I've been trying to think of stuff but it's so complicated. First off, it's about 90 degrees so most of the horses are sweating, have super stocked up legs, runny eyes, and are miserable in their stalls. But you can't just take them out or give them anything without owner's permission, plus a lot of them are probably not even safe to hand-walk. Most of them arrived via professional hauler so no one really knows who the owners are. Honestly, they just need to get out of there ASAP because they are so stressed. Many of them went home today. Hopefully more will go tomorrow. In the meantime we just have to keep everything clean and fed. I'll ask the volunteer coordinator tomorrow if she knows of anything else we need besides bodies to help. Local feed stores and tack shops have been amazing with donations.

For a centralized fire information (not donation) resource that lists all the fires:
http://www.inciweb.org/
They are still very concerned about the Santiago fire as it is being stubborn. While it is far smaller than the Witch fire, they don't expect containment nearly as soon - and it is currently burning towards Riverside County as well as slowly moving towards Dove Canyon, Rancho Santa Margarita and Coto. In the following article where they state that they want to make a stand at Ortega Hwy - that is south of all of those (The Oaks is at the southwest end of Ortega as it comes into San Juan).

I just called Del Mar Fairgrounds to see if they still needed volunteers.
The lady thanked me and told me that they did NOT need volunteers at this time, (9:19 pacific time AM Sat. Oct. 27th).
Most of the horses at the Fairgrounds have gone home, and the ones that are left are being moved to Horsepark.
I called Horsepark and left a message to see if they still needed help.

She knows NOTHING of what is being photographed on the site and her statement (yesterday) was that they only have a "few" horses at her facility (nowhere near 39) and that while she hasn't seen the owners, has not heard that any of the horses are "lost."

I emailed that link to someone I know in the evacuated areas there, and THEY forwarded the link to thier neighbors and the local equestrian centers.
Here are copies of two of the replies this friend received back (I removed the name of the person from Orange Park Acres):
Good morning all... We received word from the folks
at the Cinnabar Equestrian Operations at the Coto
Valley Equestrian Center, that all of these horses
HAVE been accounted for...
"------" from Orange Park Acres spoke with the
woman whose phone number was listed to call for the
missing horses and she said the whole thing was a hoax
and that all the horse owners had been accounted for
when they came in...so how they got posted seems odd
to me...

No, the big san diego fire is 98 percent contained, but there are supposed to be santa ana winds coming again and they are hoping for no flare ups.

Also, the Santiago fire isn't out yet. I just heard on the radio that it is about 90% contained and they hope for full containment in the next few days, but they do have numerous "hot spots" still that also concern fire officials with the winds predicted to come up again later today/tonight.
Comment from the official speaking, was that stood out to me was that the winds will be a test of their containment capabilities (not especially encouraging since it's already gone once from 50% containment back to 30%).

Have all the horses been reunited with their owners or a lot of them at racetracks and other places they were brought to during the fires??? The homeowners who have gone back to their homes, have they been able to take their horses there or are the conditions such that the horses can not be there???

Talloaks, our very last evacuees went home, IIRC, on Saturday. I do not know how many are still at The Oaks and the OC Fairgrounds. There was a place in one of the OC canyons that burned down that also housed a therapeutic center; I think they have relocated permanently to another stable.

Our barn still has approximately a dozen horses that will be there for months as their barns were destroyed in the fire. Our BM is providing them with free housing - they just pay for feed and labor.
FYI, the Santiago Canyon fire is fully contained as of 11/9, however, as of 11/11, it is not fully controlled (out). It has now been burning for 14 days.
