View Full Version : 2007 COTH Christmas Card Swap - IS CLOSED - Thanks!

Freebird!
Oct. 3, 2007, 11:22 AM
Yup - it's that time again!

Here's what happens:

You send me your COTH name, Real Name and address and email address.

Send email to: FedExpress@bellsouth.net

Once we see how many are participating, I will send out a group email to everyone, so we can decide how to do the groups. If it is a reasonable number - as it has been in the past - we will all send cards to everyone else on the list.
However, if it turns into an unmanageable number, then we will split them into smaller groups to cut down postage costs.

We can also have a group of folks who would just like to send out E-Mail Christmas Cards, for those too broke to buy 50 stamps.

If you participated last year, you STILL need to send me an email WITH your info, in case anything has changed. If I DO NOT get an email from you, you WILL NOT be added to the 2007 List.

Now one thing that many folks have done in the past is to print off a Newsletter with pictures of them, their horses, pets, and a little info about themselves. It's neat getting to know all the COTHers, plus making Newsletters is FREE!

We had a blast with this last year. My kids love to see all the stamps especially the foreign ones. Unfortunately this winter and Christmas will be the year of the house. We close on the construction loan next week and the foundation will start as soon as I get the fence built. We will be moving all 6 of us in with my parents while I build by night and design by day. So Christmas cards are on the not required list. Enjoy!! LF

Sorry. No you didn't miss it. Freebird is having to convert it to a workable format to get it over to me, plus she got some late entries. Alas, she doesn't have MS Word on her laptop, so that's where I come in.

Per her this morning, she should have it to me by tomorrow. I'll then convert it into two formats: a table/list and Avery 5160 labels (30 per page.

Everyone who sent in their name/address got an e-mail from me very early this morning. FROM e-mail is susan.auten@maas911.com (work address).

It is in three formats to make this as easy for you as possible: Word, Excel and Avery 5160 Pre-Merged Labels.

NOTE: Be sure to double check the postage for our friends to the north, across the pond and 1/2 way around the world (Yes...Oman to be exact ;)). You wouldn't want your card returned :)

I've got to get new ink cartridges for my printer before I can finish mine. Out of ink & our supplier is temporarily out. :( Trust me, you don't want me to have to handwrite them!

I got the first card, but I'm not opening up any yet :) I'm not 100% in the holiday spirit after such a horrible year, and I think my extended family (i.e. COTH) will make my holidays a bit better. I have the envelopes addressed, just gonna have to double check them, but I did them off the final I got from Choco, so I assume I'm good to go. I'm not sure if I'll really include anything this year, but will see. I don't have my camera anymore and all my recent pics are gone too (even of the 2 horses I lost this summer) after my car was stolen while I was in NC. Hope no-one is disappointed if mine arrive card only .....

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for helping with my X-mas cheer. If not for the card swap and the Secret Santa thing, my holidays would be really bleak. I'm glad I had the opportunity to enjoy this for the short time I've been on here.

Hope you all have great holidays and maybe this will survive!

:D I get that all the time when I'm home! Here I took my stack o' cards to the post office today and pretty much cleaned them out of stamps. (No postage meters yet in Oman. ;). The best part was when an older gentleman postal worker came out brandishing a sheet of air mail stickers a la "don't forget these!"

And there's no self-adhesive stamps either, just the old fashioned kind. I should finish licking all of those babies tomorrow and then theý'll be on their way, insh'Allah!

I'm having as much fun getting the cards from all of you as I am participating in the Secret Santa! I really love the notes and pictures. My son is enjoying it too! I let him open them for me. He hordes the cards and I'm allowed to have the letters inside. He always asks who they're from and where they live so he's getting a little geography lesson to boot. Five is not too young to start learning where all these places are!

You guys are all so great! I have never seen anything quite like this COTH card swap before . . . what a cool experience! I have so enjoyed seeing a tiny glimpse of everyone's life, pics of their critters, etc. I have never written in a Xmas newsletter before with items like "Tobias is afraid of the dark" or "Tia likes Altoids", because the horse-less crowd (i.e., family) would just not get it. But HERE, it seems quite natural because I know you all have the same little quirks & intimate relationship with your ponies as well! :)

I wish I had all your cards here at work so I could comment on some of them. I've received so many now, I can't keep you all straight! Eleanor, hugs to you. I recently lost a relationship with what I thought would be my future husband. It really sucks -- esp. at Christmas time. [hugs].

Ok guys, they're all addressed, but they definitely will not make it by Christmas, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO sorry. Can I be forgiven :(

Of course! Mine were mailed relatively late, and I fear they will arrive mid-January.

Have any of our cards reached Ireland and Oman yet??

Well, folks...me too.
I got them all done, just one or two more to stuff. At least I'm not the only one who is sending out late cards. I was so embarrased I almost decided not to. The last couple of weeks have really been a struggle for me and I can tell you Secret Santa & this card swap have really been the only holiday cheer I can seem to find. Each day I get home to find cards from new friends and it really brightens my day. Thank you to each and every one of you. You just don't know how much it helps!

I will second blackstallion's notion that us slowpokes are just helping to extend the season!

YES to Oman :D:D I got six of them in the mail two days ago. I really felt like it was Christmas morning seeing all the nicely colored enevlopes and reading all of the nice messages inside.

I get my mail at work, and we're closed until the 24th because of the Islamic holiday Eid Al-Adha, so I am hoping that I'll get an extra big delivery on that day.

How is the weather in Omen?

I'm in California and I will NOT see any snow this X-mas. It never snows here. We usually have to go to Tahoe to see a snow, but this year decided to spend X-mas in the city (San Francisco) so we will be out to ballet "Nutcracker" instead of skiing on the snow slopes of Tahoe.

You will all be getting Christmas cards for New Years from me! :D I started addressing envelopes last week, but got sidetracked (what else is new!). I still haven't got my letter written and I really want to include a photo of the "kids". I've got a dozen COTH xmas cards stuffed in my briefcase unopened - life has been hectic lately!!! Lots of snow here if anyone wants some.

Take your time with photos - but please DO print photos of your critters! This is by far my favorite thing - to read about critters and loot at photos. Even my hubby and my teenage son enjoy glancing at them!

This has been such a fun time for me - every day going to the mailbox and getting some more cards and letters and seeing all the photos of the horses I read about and seeing who belongs to which horse.

It's great fun, this is my second year and I think I sent out a total of 75 cards this year including my immediate family. I buy a book of postage every couple of months and save it up just for this time of year. What was really strange was I had to get the overseas postage and the post mistress said I needed ninety cent postage..ok..sell me some..she looks all over the post office, even goes up to the machine in the front and there is no ninety cent postage to be found..aaakkkk..I'm waiting, the whole line behind me is waiting..people are tapping feet..I ask very quietly: Can't you sell me several stamps that equal 90 cents? She says "I know there are some ninety cent stamps here, I saw them this morning..and again disappears in the back for ten more minutes..while I cringe thinking all the people behind me are going to riot and beat me to death with my own leg or something..

finally she admits defeat..and sells me enough stamps to make ninety cents each...lol..

This transaction took around 35 minutes, and was resolved in less than five...

There's nothing like the holidays to give one patience.

Merry Christmas Cothers!!

I have soooooo enjoyed seeing my mailbox crammed full o'cards!

Sleepy Fox: I LOVE YOUR CHICKEN'S NAME!!!! "Gutterball" Hahahahahahah     - The farm where I board used to have 4 free-range Dominicker (sp??) hens. I named them Carol, Bob, Ted & Alice. Alas, all four met their demise to the neighborhood hawk who found them tasty

Oh, Dressage Art, here too....In the daytime it is around low to mid 80's now and about high 60's to 70's at night. Quite a few of the stores do have Christmas decorations up (Ít's a Muslim country, but Omanis, being a costal people, are very religiously tolerant.) so that does help in reminding me it's Christmastime!

I do pray for a bit of rain...I'm one of those oddballs who needs rain for proper mental balance.

My cards all went into the mail today!! The Post Office deadline is the 20th to get First Class Mail into the system to get it anywhere in the lower 48 by Dec 24th. That means stamped x-mas cards, so hopefully mine will be on time.

I am absolutely loving this. My card holder is already full, and I'm going to buy a new one so I can enjoy all the cards and well wishes. I'm also so excited to get to know everyone beyond a few postings and a screen name. Very cool idea.

I can't believe how many cards I've gotten and how many of you say you've still not sent yours! Where am I going to put them all???

I love getting all the cards. It's the first thing I do when I get home. And once they're looked at and read and showed to the SO they get stuck behind the door frame trim around the dining room. I'm already having to get creative with places to put them.

Yes, I loved gutterball too. I also loved the pic from Oman. I think more people are doing letters this year than last, which is great. The pics and stories are so neat! I hope my cards are getting to their destinations. I ended up sending out 91 cards this year between COTH and friends/family. I made all but 2 of them and no 2 are alike!

"gutterball" was a hit at our dinner table discussion as well! My hubby, with out his reading glasses was trying to see who in their right mind would name a cute dog a "gutterball" so I had to straighten him up that it was a chicken and we all thought that it was a perfect name fir him!

HAHAHA - my mail lady is FREAKING out at ALL the cards I am getting addressed to 7-A Meadow Way So much in fact, that she says that after a week any mail addressed to 7-A will be returned, lol, so to keep the residents of 7 Meadow Way (which would be my parents) We're going to get another mailbox. Hopefully mine will have better luck then my parents mailbox has (which has been knocked down 4 times)

Ahh, the joys of country living.....

My son LOVED your card with the postcard pics!!! I even saved the stamps - what a great surprise it has been getting all the cards. Really, they have meant so much. To be honest, I have been saving some to open, so that when I have a crummy day I just go to my big stack of COTH cards, and open one up.

I will eventually get mine out - though they may very well be Happy New Year cards at the rate I'm going, lol.

Today, I send the rest of my cards. They are also all hand made and all a little different. One of them is actually printed upside-down  - I don't know who will be the lucky one to get that one, but I thought it's just a sign that it WAS hand made :)

I made a folder with all of the stories and photos from Cothers and do read little by little before bed when I need for my brain to unwind. I love the "tank" grey horse  from Choco Mare! Margo - I have a white Doberman!!! Your puppy is sooo cute!!!

Dressage Art, just got your card today-- wow, stunning, gorgeous, fantastic work! Congratulations-- we'll be looking for that USDF cover! :):):)

These have all been a treat, particularly since the *%$*$&@(*&$#_% snow and ice have kept me off a horse for almost two weeks!

Thanks Kim! I must say, you were super on top of everything! Yours was the first card I got! I'm just so loving "meeting" everyone. It's amazing how we're all living these incredibly separate lives, but share this incredible bond. I just love it.
