Super ! What is the format? Is it run like a hunter class -with everyone in the ring at the same time (visions of my possibly misbehaving baby causing mutiny amongst peers) or is it done on a triangle one at a time (where at least my possibly bad baby will not disturb anyone else!)
Thanks!
jackie
Edited to add-never mind-I found the information-looks like you get to go solo around a triangle to strut (or buck) your stuff! I cant get the entry form link to work right now-will try later!

Is USEA establishing their own event horse in hand judges, or are they using ones from USEF?

The judge they have listed is Denis Glaccum, who is not a USEF judge, but has bred, trained and reidden lots of event horses, as well as being an organizer for many years. There is no criteria so far for the judges so I think right now they are just getting people who are in the eventing community

Hosting the classes has just been a rather sudden decision by the Fair Hill Horse Trials committee... it is to be very low-key, and low-stress for all.
We don't have a schedule as yet, but will post it as soon as we have an idea of how many entires to expect.
There is no prize list, as it is just our first effort at running this type of event.
The entry form is on the USEA website, along with the guidelines for how the classes are split; by age and gender. Also, the judging criteria is listed. Go to the USEA website, and then to "Forms and Documents" - there are three documents relating to the Future Event Horse classes. Please read all three.
Entries may be mailed to:
Fair Hill International
378 Fair Hill Drive
Elkton MD 21921
Further information will be posted here and on the Fair Hill Website, www.fairhillinternational.com, as we get closer to the date.

Great! I couldn't make the other dates/locations for various reasons.
That one is close and a weekend! The last one on the 24th was a Friday and I work. The 17th was a Friday again plus the same weekend I was trying to get the other dirtball cleaned up for the Fair Hill breed show.
General info here though the Fair Hill date is not listed

I took my three year old to the one at Waredaca and will try take him to Fair Hill since it is so close. At least the one at Waredaca and others have been very low key. One horse in the ring at a time. You show them on a triangle and people are showing them more like you do at Dressage at Devon....meaning I lost my guy a few points on his trot since I can't run fast enough to really show off his gait!
It was only the second time off the farm for my guy if you don't count the time he went to DaD by his dam's side as a weaner. So Fair Hill will be his third time off the farm ;)

Is USEA establishing their own event horse in hand judges, or are they using ones from USEF?
Not sure what the exact criteria are, but the judge at Waredaca was Suzanne Quarles, and the USEF licensed officials list does not list her with any judges licenses. But I know she USED to be a dressage judge.

There is no closing date; post entries are allowed, but we'd really like to have an idea of who is coming, so we may plan the schedule.
If you would email your intentions to horsetrials @fairhillinternational.com, or to office@fairhillinternational.com, it would be helpful.
I have been able to look at the entry form on the USEA website, by going to the "Forms and Documents" area. You should be able to print the form and then can mail or fax it to Fair Hill. The fax is: 410-398-5020.

Now that I have the form-it says sire's grandsire......do they really mean sire's sire (not grand sire) or the entry's grand sire?
I have to get a USEA number for my two year old? Is the HLR number different from the USA Equestrian horse life number (which he already has)?)

I put both grand sires (dam's and sire's) and both grand dam's. It is a class meant to promote breeding of event horses so I figure the more info out there...the better.
I believe that the USEA number is waived for this year but they want you to send the pedigree information to the USEA. Email Emily at the USEA and she will answer any questions. Her email address is on the informational page for the FEH classes on the USEA web page.
This is the first year for this program so they are still working through things. It is a great idea and I hope catches on. The prices eventers are willing to pay for quality horses is increasing ....and a surprising number of eventers do buy young stock.

The horse's USEA # is different from the USEF #.
But for 2007, it is freee for doing FEH.
You have to download the form (last time I checked you couldn't do it with the on line registration)
http://www.useventing.com/resources/files/docs/HLR2007.pdf and mail or fax it in, with a copy of the pedigree.
But they have not yet updated the structrue of the database. I sent in the form for Chief about a month ago. Wen I emailed to find out why I had not got a number yet, they told me that they are still working on the structure, and do not yet have actual numbers for you.
So, send in the form, and then but "pending" on te entry bl ank.

Thanks Janet....just added that to my list of things to do. I do know that the important thing is to get your pedigree information to Emily.
It will be really cool if they can develop a good data base that then tracks the progress of these youngsters....especially if their names change.
Some (like yours and your sister's) are really breed all out to be eventers and it will be interesting to see how far they all go.
While these classes are fun....I think a key factor of a top event horse (their heart) is impossible to judge on the line.

The lovely thing is that the YEH stuff says that braiding is optional except for the "finale" in October where braiding will be required. I really hate braiding so "optional" is a very tempting thought!!! If I don't braid of course I will have to shorten his mane at any rate. It DOES have 2 years of hair on his neck at present!!!

Remember the FINALS are on Wednesday October 3 @ Morven Park, VA.
Everyone try to make it if you can, it would be a great start to this program if we could finish the year with lots of babies at the finals!
Best of luck to everyone going to Fair Hill!

YES! Stalls are available. I will be coming all the way from Kentucky and I'm sure there are many other people coming from distances that would like to stable. Just make sure when you fill your stable chart out that you indicate filly/colt/geld so they are able to stable properly.

Not yet. I am sure they are still working on getting the entries sorted out as it is a last minute addition. I got my confirmation yesterday so at least I know we are expected! And they are taking post entries at the show, so I imagine they would be tacked on to whatever list they start with/I would not count on things running too close to an original schedule if there are a lot of post entries.
We will be in the same boat with the antsy 2 YO at his first show. We are still working on the trotting in hand thing this week. He thinks standing around and walking are just fine but he really should not have to move his arse into a trot......

I did not braid for the one in Mt Airy and she won!!! So not sure if I will for this one. Her mane is on all sides so if a friend wants to braid I may go ahead for neatness sake but if it doesn't get done I won't sweat it. She was so good for the first one but suddely she has become a bit of a maniac in-hand...terrible twos I guess. At Fair Hill Dressage the handler could barely control her in the open 2yo class, but she still got a 6th place surprisingly, but I handled her myself for the RPSI class later in the day which did result in a better placing of 4th but she still had huge ants in her pants. I had handled her for the Mt Airy show so am going to again, but geez has she gotten a bit hyped lately, don't know what it is. I am quite concerned how well I will be able to control her, hmmm.

Well I am surprised the little man came home with a blue ribbon...unbraided and all....first time away from home! (OK not so little....he is 16H and a June 2 YO...one of the judge's comments was "this is going to be a BIG horse!" he he.) LJS didn't need to worry, her filly with the previous ants in her pants was "de-bugged" and behaved nicely too!

I had to have hubby do the handling because I am not completely healed up from a back procedure, ughh. But she loves him and minded him well. Thanks Fred! It's rather bitter-sweet that Boomer's foals are just starting to show as he passed away at such a young age (only 5) with only a couple foal crops on the ground totalling 12 babies overall. There are two 2 YOs showing this year (Buck and a stud colt doing the APHA circuit). I have 2 I plan to show next year...a filly that is a yearling this year/will be 2 next year and the weanling APHA son that mini-me of him/we are buying back as a stallion prospect. An outside MO has a filly that is a weanling this year that has caught the attention of Ray Francis/he apparently really likes her so he will be showing her in yearling fillies HB next year for her breeder. So..."the end" comes just as we "made it". Sigh.
I think this FEH thing will be a good place to take the filly and the colt next year as a nice low key way to get them out there.
The scribe for the judge must have known a bit about Boomer though. The judge asked a little about his sire...she looked at Buck (who is solid chestnut) and said "no bling on this one huh?" and filled the judge in on the fact his sire was a bit chromed up!

I THOUGHT maybe he did but didn't want to post as I wasn't sure it was correct since everyone collected their ribbons from the judges stands at some point after the class and toodled off on their merry way. And as ever, it's always interesting to meet fellow COTHers that we know by screen names and have not put a face to before! As time goes by I am starting to slowly put more faces with screen names! Luckily things are a little slow at work right now that I was able to get a Wednesday off to take Buck to VA on the 3rd.
