Well I have been promising pictures of Wendel for a while and finally got around to it today.
He requested he have an outdoor photo shoot, were I could get some sexy shots of him as he basks and plays in the sun!!
This is of course his before surgery pictures!! He eyes are kinda gross looking right now, but they do get cleaned twice a day!!

I have a blind kitten that I would like to find a home for...If I can't don't worry he will stay with me, I am not going to send him anywhere bad!! But I do think it would be better for him to be somewhere that has another cat or kitten or small dog that could keep him company. We believe he was born blind, his eye lashes are laying on his eye and have caused some damage already.
When I talked to the vet they said that they could fix this with surgery but that he will probably not ever see, and that his eyes could be bad enough that they have to remove the eyes!!:(
This is the sweetest kitty in the world he...he likes to lick you like a dog, and follows me everywhere. He climbs my stairs and up on my bed, so he is very capable of getting around on his own. He is litter box trained.
If I keep him I will get the surgery done for his eyes since I think it will make him more comfortable.
I do think though that he would do better INSIDE of course (like he is here) and with another animal he can buddy with.

He has long hair and is a creamy with with light brown spots and then he has a dark grey tail an the backs of his back feet are dark grey too!! He is adorable!!!

Just want to add that we have raised many special need cats, including one who was blind. We were told "not to expect much" from the blind cat. Boy did she prove them wrong. Within 48 hours she had the whole house figured out-including the stairs to the second floor.

She even made the move with us to a new house and figured that out.

If you can give this kitty a chance.

We already have 11 cats and a few barn cats so we can't take anymore.

Good luck in finding a great home.

I just wanted to add that it sounds like the condition you are describing is called entropion. If that is the cases, the surgery should definitely be done (which is sounds like you are going to do...) as it is a very painful condition. We know how much it hurts to have one eyelash in your eye, just imagine if all your lashed were constanly rubbing on your eye! Also, the sooner the surgery is done, the better the chance to retain some vision. Most animals do NOT go blind from this condition; only if it goes untreated for an excessive amount of time.
Best of luck with this little guy!

If I keep him I will most certainly have this surgery done:yes:... I just thought he wouldn't be so bored if he had something like a small companion! I have Rotties and Dobermans they LOVE the kitten but he is not too sure about them yet!!
I will keep everyone posted!!
Thanks for your advice and concern

Ok I talked to my vet this morning and she said they are going to have to refer him to a specialist in the Raleigh/Cary NC area, she is going to call there this morning and talk with someone about the cost of the surgery (this scares me!!)
I will try and get some pictures of Wendel today for you when I get home from work!!:D
Thanks everybody ya'll are great people!!

Reminder: is is very much against COTH rules to solicit donations or to fundraise unless the donations are to be made to a recognized non-profit/charity. We can't have all and sundry coming on here trying to get their vet bills paid. (Not that this is what the OP was trying to do, but if we allow that kind of thing, you can be quite sure others will exploit it!)

So please don't offer or request that kind of thing. Thank you!

Please do update and post pictures of the little one, though! :)

I already have 6 house cats, and one (a Himalayan) never goes out. She's pretty solitary, but could use a companion. I can give this guy an inside home we'd just have to get him up here.

I can take the kittie, have one as well as a blind dog so he'd fit right in, that is if you still have him

Entropion in horses is an easy fix - in the barn with light sedation, just a few sutures. I can't imagine it is much for a kitten. I AM surprised any vet would not do it immediately, as every minute does more damage, and it is VERY irritating. "Scarring" from lashes can completely go away of treated.

Hope the kitty gets a great home.

Update on Wendel!!

Wendel has a appointment this coming Monday, to evaluate his condition. We are finally taking steps to getting this little guy the help he needs.
I really hope this will be an easy and less expensive surgery then what I have in mind!!
I will keep everyone up to date and will try and get you some before and after pictures as well.
Thank you for keeping up with Wendel and his progress and I will try and be better about updating everyone as well!

All that is needed for entropian in a foal is that the vet takes his fingers, and rolls out the lower lid that is turned in, and then staples it, or sutres it out to the skin lower on the cheek. It is done in the barn with the foal standing, under mild sedation. It takes about a minute or 2. The sutres are left in about 10 days to 2 weeks, until the lid "learns" to stay in the new position - basically unfolded.

I am totally in love with Wendel. Sadly, Mr. 17handtb would most definitely finally reach his breaking point after 4 rescued cats and 2 rescued horses if I added another critter to the mix. It would almost be worth it to have Wendel...;)

GOOD luck in placing this darling guy, and thank you for being so good to him!

And Wendel might just be the best cat name I've ever heard. I'm stealing that for the next stray that shows up on my doorstep. ;)

Update on Wendel!!!!!:D:D

First sorry it has taken a few days to get back with everyone!! I had a sinus infection on Monday and laid in bed till Wendel's appointment and then had to work Monday night and Tuesday night as well.
Wendel has been referred to...Animal Eye Care... in Cary, NC he is going to be seen by Dr. English who is great, from what I have been told... The surgery he will have will cost about $400.00

What my vet told me today in his evaluation was that his eyelids are normal!! It's his eyelashes that are growing inwards. They are going to freeze his lashes off!!... But the absolutely amazing news is that she believe Wendel will recover FULLY!!!...including being able to see!!!! He has ulcers that have developed on his eyes right now, but we are treating those now... and will be treating them afterwards too!!!

So it was a overall great day for Wendel!!!

Wendle is having his surgery on Monday, we waited because one of his eyes looked as if the lashes were actually starting to grow the right way (and they did). We were hoping the other eye would do the same, but so far it hasn't changed.
Now that only have to do surgery on one eye!!! Then after we begin to treat the ulcers more heavily then we are now and hopefully one day Wendle will be able to see!!!!!!!!!:D:winkgrin:

Wendel is doing great, his surgery was a success, his eye lashes are now growing the right way. He has SOME visibility in one eye, and none in the other eye, but we are still working on it. He has to have drops twice a day for right now. Hopefully with time the ulcers will go away and he will be able to see in both eyes.
I will have to get some new updated pic's when I get some.
Thanks to everyone for your support, Wendel is a very happy kitty!
