A Happy Ending For Elation At Pony Finals

Thursday, Aug. 12 Lexington, Ky.

Maddie Darst and Elation finished out the day at USEF Pony Finals the way they started it: at the head of the small pony division.

Betsee Parker’s gray clinched victory with a winning over fences trip when the pressure was on. Last to go, Darst kept her cool to win the small pony championship over Lands End Eros, ridden by Pony Finals first-timer Isabel Ryan.

“I was really, really nervous!” said Darst, 13. “I’m not sure why—I never really get nervous.”

Memories Of Buzz Light Year

It all started when Mary Corbin was ready for a small pony. Just out of the short stirrup ring, we didn’t set out to find the best, just a good safe pony to give her some experience. But boy did we get the best!

Cunniffe Crowned Pony Medal Champion

Bonnie Cunniffe has a problem. When her daughter Ailish missed a lead change in the medium pony over fences class yesterday, she promised the 12-year-old that if she shaped up and won today’s USEF Pony Medal Final she would get her a new puppy.

So after Ailish put in a pair of stellar rounds to beat out 217 riders today, Sunday Aug. 9, Bonnie will have to explain to her husband, Frank, why she defied his objections and brought home a new Corgi from Lexington, Ky.
