Valentine Steals The Judges' Hearts At Harrisburg

Harrisburg, Pa. – Oct. 18

Last fall, Valentine was competing at her first indoor show with Jaime Auletto at Capital Challenge (Md.) and things didn’t go as planned.

The now-7-year-old German-bred mare was still quite green, and Auletto realized it was still a little too soon for the challenge.

Fast forward a year, and the pair came to the Pennsylvania National Horse Show with more experience and confidence. They used that to their advantage to win the low amateur-owner, 18-35 championship and the grand low amateur-owner championship.

Game Ready Is Game On In PA Big Jump

Harrisburg, Pa. – Oct. 17

As Conor Swail watched the six riders ahead of him in the jump-off of the $40,000 Pennsylvania Big Jump, his plans for Game Ready changed quickly.

He thought a nice, slow clear would get him a good placing when four riders dropped rails, but then Todd Minikus on Quality Girl, Brianne Goutal on Nice de Prissey and Kent Farrington on Willow put the pressure on with fast clears.

Farmer Is Unbeatable At Harrisburg

Harrisburg, Pa. - Oct. 16

As Kelley Farmer left the ring at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show with an armful of tricolors, there was one award she was the happiest to receive.

“It’s been too long since I was leading hunter rider here!” she joked.

Farmer last earned the title in 1999, but this year was all hers as she won the grand hunter championship, green conformation hunter championship and the regular conformation hunter reserve championship on Quotable to help take the win.

Patience Paid Off For Schatt At Harrisburg

Harrisburg, Pa. – Oct. 15

Few riders were interested in Bacardi when he was for sale as a skinny 4-year-old gelding that spooked at his own shadow in 2010. Not Peter Pletcher, not Kelley Farmer, not even amateurs who complained of the now 7-year-old’s flat feet.

But it was love at first sight for Havens Schatt. Her intuition paid off as she earned the first year green championship and the grand green championship at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show aboard Caroline Moran’s Dutch Warmblood gelding.

A Wylde Endeavor

Harrisburg, Pa. – Oct. 14.

“I don’t want to make a fool of myself,” said Peter Wylde as he exited the ring at the Pennsylvania National after the high performance hunter under saddle class with a red ribbon on his horse’s bridle, “but I don’t think I am!”

It’s not every day you see a former Olympic show jumping champion dabbling in the hunter ring at Harrisburg.
