Caroline Martin had a lot to smile about at this year’s Adequan/NAJYRC. Not only did her Area III team take home the team gold medal in the CCI**, but she also captured individual gold aboard Quantum Solace.
It was déjà vu for Quebec team members Laurence Blais Tetreault and Naima Moreira Laliberte as they accepted their medals in the Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships junior freestyle.
It came down to just a fraction of a point for Tetreault and Laliberte as the juniors scored a 71.52% and a 71.20 percent respectively.
Although they came to the Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships with a mixed bag of experience, the Area III young rider team came out on top after cross-country over a tough track designed by David O’Connor.
For the first time since 1996, Mexico brought home an individual gold medal in the show jumping competition at the Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships. A member of Mexico’s silver medal-winning team earlier in the week, Eugenio Garza Perez captured individual gold in the junior championship riding his 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding Bariano, adding no penalties over the five-round competition.
She may have been the last rider of the day at 6:20 p.m, but Ayden Uhlir didn’t let it get to her. Aboard Sjapoer, her 2012 individual junior gold medal mount, Uhlir topped the young rider individual test at the Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships.
“It was quite a journey coming from juniors. It’s a lot harder to do these tests, but a lot more fun. I definitely enjoy it and it was well worth it,” said Uhlir, 18, Kirkland, Wash.
