Cwick Adds A CCI** Win To His Resume At Galway Downs

Nicholas Cwick met his goal of jumping a clear round with Asterix in the short format CCI** at Galway Downs. He added just one time penalty to his dressage score to finish with a 46.6.

The big jumping Oldenburg didn't touch a rail, lifting Cwick higher over every fence. "Sometimes I do get jumped out of the tack," admitted the 23-year-old.

Cwick Makes Time To Keep His Lead In The Galway CCI**

Nicholas Cwick doesn't normally go for time, but after winning the dressage in the Olympic format Galway Downs CCI** on Friday, he decided he'd better go for it with Asterix.

"I wasn't sure he was fit enough," admitted Cwick. He's aiming for a three-star in the spring and planned to just use Galway as preparation. But it turned out that the 8-year-old Oldenburg was fitter than he thought. "He was so fresh in the warm-up, and I was getting run off with in the first 10 jumps," said Cwick.

Nicholas Cwick Takes The Early Lead In The Galway Downs CCI**

The eventing dressage just keeps getting better, and Nicholas Cwick and Asterix were a good example of this as they glided through the two-star test at Galway Downs on Friday, Nov. 4.

There was one miscommunication when Asterix broke to canter, but in the rest of the test the 8-year-old Oldenburg appeared to be focused, but relaxed, as he floated through the movements.

"I thought that was one of his best tests," said a proud Cwick, who's trained Asterix since he was four. "I made a few mistakes, but he was giving me everything that he could."

Lawrence Lets It Rip On Cross-Country

Jamie Lawrence showed her elders how cross-country should be ridden today in the Galway Downs CCI**, Temecula, Calif. Lawrence, 17, rode the only double clear round on Malik and moved up from fourth place to first.

Close behind her is Stephanie Cooper on Kaelen. Riding in her first three-day in seven years and Kaelen's first three-day ever left Cooper thrilled just to be taking part in the event.
