West End Is Standing Out In A Sea Of Warmbloods

Sometimes it looks like qualifying for the equitation finals includes a “must ride a big, bay warmblood in a Pelham” dress code. As the 229 rides of the Pessoa/USEF Medal Finals walked in through the in-gate there was bay warmblood after bay warmblood, with a few grays and chestnuts sprinkled in.

The 2009 Pessoa/USEF Medal Finals Course

Judges Leo Conroy and Ellen Raidt, with help from course designer Steve Stephens, have set a course with lots to do today for the Medal Finals. The questions come hard and fast—there’s no room for a breather.

Riders have to enter the ring and proceed directly to Fence 1, a vertical set coming out of one of the far corners of the ring, heading back toward the in-gate.

There's No Halt to Springsteen's Winning Streak

Jessica Springsteen knows that there's more than one way to win an equitation class.

Last year at the ASPCA Maclay Championship she proved she can keep her composure and top a class when she’s called back on top. And at this year’s Pessoa/USEF Medal Final today, Oct. 11, she showed she can win one from behind, too.

Onassis Shows Off At Pennsylvania National

Sarah Ward finishes her junior career with the grand junior hunter championship.

Sarah Ward has a pretty simple plan for riding Onassis: “He knows his job—I just have to keep up with him!” she said.

Keep up with him she did. At the Pennsylvania National Junior Weekend, Oct. 9-14 in Harrisburg, Ward claimed the grand junior hunter and large junior hunter, 16-17, tricolors.

“He’s so amazing. He just went in and did his thing,” Ward said.
