First Timers Show How It Is Done At Western ATC

New partnerships and old friendships pay off with a training level team win in California.

Most people attempting a new level for the first time keep their goals modest—finish on their dressage score or finish in the top 10 perhaps—but during the Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials in Santa Ynez, Calif., held Aug. 23-25, the four members of the winning training team at The Chronicle of the Horse/USEA Western Adult Team Challenge surpassed their modest goal of completing to take the win with four new partnerships.

Miles Notches Another Victory At Historic Ram Tap

The Ram Tap Horse Trials, a staple of Area VI eventing for 50 years, celebrated its anniversary by adding an advanced division for the first time in nine years on Feb. 16-18 in Fresno, Calif. Familiar names topped the leaderboard of this new division, with the juggernaut of Gina Miles and McKinlaigh taking home the win over Hawley Bennett and the venerable Livingstone.

Miles Wraps Up Adequan USEA Gold Cup With Twin Rivers Score

It came down to the last moments of the last Adequan USEA Gold Cup competition of 2006, but Gina Miles and her veteran mount McKinlaigh clinched the year-end title by winning the advance division at Twin Rivers Ranch Horse Trials in Paso Robles, Calif., on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

McKinlaigh Shows He's Really On Track With Woodside Victory

Gina Miles didn't have the spring season she'd hoped for with her long-time partner McKinlaigh. The 12-year-old, Irish Sport Horse had a pulmonary bleed on course at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in April, and she was forced to pull him up a handful of jumps from home.

But at the Woodside Summer Horse Trials in Woodside, Calif., Aug. 11-13, "Big Mac" showed Miles he's back on top with a win in the advanced.

Petit Danseur Dances To Victory At Woodside CDI

Expressive horses can often be like lightning in a bottle--sometimes they shine, and sometimes they explode.

Jennifer Hoffman had a little of both with Petit Danseur at the Woodside CDI in Woodside, Calif., on July 14-16. After a flashy--but tense--Grand Prix, they emerged victorious in the Grand Prix freestyle with a score of 68.40 percent.

The flashy bay is an incredible athlete who lives up to his name, dancing through the intricate Grand Prix movements with ease. His only downfall is a mercurial nature that causes his athleticism to boil over at times.

Cape Town Returns To his Winning Ways At USEF Junior National Championships

Anyone familiar with the sport of eventing would have recognized the handsome black gelding trotting powerfully down the centerline at the USEF Junior Dressage Championships on July 7-9.

Cape Town won the 2003 Radnor Hunt CCI** (Pa.) under Clark Montgomery. In the ensuing years he's had a career change but he hasn't given up his winning ways, as he and Hannah Shook emerged as the individual winners in Pebble Beach, Calif.
