It’s the end of May, and that means it’s time for fudge, tea sandwiches, and the nation’s top hunters and jumpers at the Devon Horse Show.
As always, Devon kicks off with Junior Weekend, which runs May 25-28 and features pony and junior hunters, equitation, pony hunter breeding, and pony and junior jumpers. The ever-popular U.S. Pony Racing Shetland steeplechase runs on Sunday and Monday afternoon, May 28-29.
This year, there’s a new class to Devon, the $50,000 Devon Arena Eventing, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, May 28. In it, 40 eventers and show jumpers will compete over 15 cross-country jumps and 10 stadium jumps on a 1,000-meter course that Mark Phillips designed to run in the Dixon and Gold arenas. The riders need to either have earned a qualifying score at the CCI* level or be competing in 1.40-meter jumpers. There are two rounds, with the second round running in just the Dixon Oval.
During the week of senior competition at Devon, which goes from Monday, May 29, until Sunday, June 4, open, amateur-owner and local hunters show, as well as open, amateur-owner and adult amateur jumpers. The hunter breeding classes run on June 4.

The hunter judges this year are Chris Wynne and Rick Fancher, who will also officiate for equitation, side-saddle and hunter breeding. Bob Crandall and Bobbie Reber are judging the pony hunters, pony hunter breeding, equitation, amateur-owner hunters and local hunters. All four will team up to judge the USHJA International Hunter Derby.
