WEG volunteers

I was selected as a volunteer for a WEG position that I did not feel was appropriate for me.  At that time I stated I would not take that position, but would gladly take a volunteer position in a different area.  The message I received was that " We do not have any other positions available" I was open for all dates of the WEG.  Are we getting mixed messages from the competition staff?
