U.S. Drivers Named For World Pony Driving Championships

The U.S. Equestrian Federation announced the team for the 2011 FEI World Pony Driving Championships. The championships will be held in Lipica, Slovenia, from Sept. 21-25. The team will be made up of six drivers and their respective ponies, as well as an individual driver.

The riders and their teams are:

Single Pony Championship:

Miranda Cadwell, of Southern Pines, N.C., and her pony Kabam

Shelly Temple, of Aiken, S.C., and her pony LR Ami B-Line

Pair Pony Championship

Jennifer Matheson, of Aiken, S.C. will drive:

Wendy O’Brien, of Aiken S.C., will drive
            -Avalon 279
            -Ben 65
            -Francisco 7

Team Pony Championship

Laurie Astegiano, of Roussac, France, will drive:
            -Liezelhof Dave
            -Mastro’s Baroness
            -Templedruid Kronos
            -Templedruid St. Jerneborg
            -Timmy 97

Allison Stroud, of West Grove, Pa., will drive:
            -Cong Donal
            -Sir Patrick

Suzy Stafford, of Wilmington, Del., will compete as an individual in the single pony championships with her own and Beth Steinke’s pony Josephine.

Chester Weber will be the U.S. team’s chef d’equipe, and Michael Freund will act as team coach.
