Updated: Zoe DiGiovanni Killed In Riding Accident

Eventer Zoe DiGiovanni was killed in a riding accident on Oct. 7. Di Giovanni, 23, of Southern Pines, N.C., was riding at Hobby Field in Southern Pines. She was attempting a jump on River Breeze, a horse owned by her mother, Maria DiGiovanni, and both fell. Zoe, who was wearing a helmet, was killed instantly due to severe head and neck trauma.

“She was definitely doing what she loved,” said family friend Barbie Gibson. “She was very fearless; she loved life, and she adored her mother. She had rescue dogs, and they followed her everywhere. She traveled all over when she could afford it. She was just the light of everybody’s life.”

Zoe was with her two best friends, Alex Martone and Elizabeth Hart, at the time of her accident.

A memorial service will be held for Zoe at 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Moore County Hunter Trial Fields in Southern Pines. People are encouraged to come on horseback as a tribute to Zoe, and the family is requesting no flowers. Donations towards Zoe's funeral expenses can be made to the "Zoe DiGiovanni Memorial Fund," c/o Vantage South Bank, 185 W. Morganton Rd., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
