Samantha Lendl, Executive Director of the Professional Riders Organization announced today that, as a result of the many requests it has received over the course of the past year, PRO has expanded its Accident and Disability Insurance Program that is provided to its professional membership. The PRO Accident and Disability Insurance Policy was custom designed with the assistance of Wells Fargo Insurance Services, AmWINS Group Benefits, and underwriter Zurich Insurance and is offered to professional riders, grooms, course designers, farriers and equestrian professionals who work with horse on a full-time basis.

“We are pleased to have built a successful association policy that covers our members for all horse-related accidents, whether they are working or training at home, traveling to or at a competition, or even competing abroad,” said Mark Hart MD, a member of PRO’s board of directors. “Accident and Disability Insurance is critically important for the well-being of anyone who works with horses.”

Professional Members of PRO are covered under the Base Plan, which includes $100,000 in excess medical coverage and $200 per week disability payments with a 30-day waiting period, for a very reasonable annual premium. An optional Buy Up Plan is also available, which provides $1,000,000 excess medical and a $600 per week disability payment. “Structuring it in this way gives PRO the ability to keep membership dues reasonable with the Base Plan premium that costs only forty-five cents per day,” said Samantha Lendl, “but provides greater flexibility to those members who need additional coverage at a very affordable premium that costs $1.89 per day, which is less then a Starbucks drink. We really have to thank the Wells Fargo Insurance Services Team, Lou Madonna of AmWins Group Benefits, and Zurich Insurance NA for working with PRO to create this unique insurance policy. Each member of this team has addressed the needs of our professional members and exceeded our expectations in every way. This program was custom tailored for our membership and is a huge step forward in ensuring that professionals in the equine industry are taken care of both medically and financially in times when they need the most help.”

The enrollment period for PRO membership is now open to all professional event riders, as well as riders from other disciplines, grooms, farriers, course builders and equestrian professionals who work with horses on a full-time basis. The Base Plan, which is included in all professional level memberships, is available at anytime throughout the membership year; however, the optional Buy Up Plan is only available until December 15th for the 2013 membership year.
