Canadian Olympic eventer Peter Barry is in stable condition after suffering a stroke in the barns at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, N.C., on March 25.

Barry, 60, was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C., where his wife Susan and son Dylan arrived soon after.

Phillip Dutton, a close friend and coach of Peter’s, spoke with Susan today.

“He’s resting comfortably and very aware and talking and fully conscious now,” said Dutton. “It’s just a case of sitting tight for a week or two and then moving back to Canada to start rehab. Everybody’s very optimistic about a full recovery, and nothing long term.”

Peter owns Maple Hill Farm in Dunham, Quebec.
