Holly Bergay, 17, of Castle Rock, Colo., has withdrawn her horse, Grand Ballerina, a 16-year-old Oldenburg mare owned by Robin Garrett, from competition in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Bergay was fifth on the U.S. Equestrian Federation para-equestrian short list for the Games. Grand Ballerina was withdrawn for unspecified veterinary reasons.
Ten horse-and-rider combinations will represent the United States at the WEG this year—the first year that para-equestrian has been included.
Erin Alberda, Woodinville, Wash., has now been added to the short list with her 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, Delectari. Alberda placed fifth in the freestyle at the USEF Selection Trials in June, with a score of 67.58 and 13th overall.
