The Equestrian Federation of Finland awarded George H. Morris with a Gold Badge of Merit, recognizing him for his work with the Finnish show jumping riders since 1984.
Although the EEF announced the honor in 2009, the eruption of the Icelandic volcano and its after effects delayed Morris’ trip to accept the award. EEF representative Tom Gardin presented the award to Morris, the current U.S. show jumping chef d’equipe, at a ceremony in Ypäjä, a small equine-centric village 80 miles northwest of Helsinki. The area is best known for the annual international competition, Finnderby, which is held there.
“I like coming to Finland,” said Morris, who has been traveling almost annually to the country since 1984 to conduct training sessions and clinics for Finnish riders as well as athletes from the Baltic countries. “I value this badge highly and feel honored."
